31 Days of Horror 2024 |OT| We are the ones who dwell within

It wasn't as bad as many other movies I saw before, they are not afraid to show the monster a lot (for a Lovecraftian related movie)

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Film 7: Critters
Cheesy as hell but some good shit here. I liked how the Critters rolled around like tumbleweed, and were basically tribbles with teeth. Some of the weirdest cuts in movie history.

Film 8: Thir13een Ghosts
I have a huge soft spot for this movie, even though it's not the best horror film it's got a lot of creativity. Amazing set work. Lots of the fakest bare boobs you'll ever see.

Heh heh, you know you got a bad 90's era slapped on water balloons boob job when you have faker boobs than Shannon Elizabeth* :p

There MUST be some way to revisit the "wear glasses to see the ghosts" concept to let the audience in on the ghosts better than the original with colored lenses to filter them in (or out). Click a button on the remote to switch versions maybe? SOMETHING to play with the concept. I feel like we get these little spurts of branching storytelling or "choose your own adventure" stuff every few years but this would be a more audience friendly idea, I think and in the age of CG seems easy enough to have a raw footage version and then lay on the ghost CG for an alternate version.

* Who still looks FANTASTIC, mind you, just she was at the edge of "yeah those are fake but if I squint a little its ok" versus the ghost chick in 13 ghosts who has about 2% body fat and isn't fooling ANYONE.

The Substance....WOW that was a movie! Titillating but nauseating, deep and provocative but also campy AS FUCK. Artsy to an extreme but also playing to the mainstream.

Kudos to Demi, she was one of a few that I thinkncould have done it. And Qualley....a rising star like none other! Even if she had prosthetic tits she could still play innocent and seductive as well as violent and enraged.

Not sure I wanted the troma style gore bath (literally) at the end versus more of a cronenburg body horror but they swung for the fences in all the best ways. Quaid is really having a good year as well.

Awesome wasn't it? Best movie ive seen in ages, i don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling it for others.

Bonkers, the ending was perfection.

Worthy of its own thread i think. My wife and I had a massive argument walking back to the car about what it meant...and how despicable men are because they only want young women.

And I was like "but did you SEE the ASS on that girl???"

Then i woke up and there is a mazda logo shaped bruise on my chest :p

While I liked the overall idea of receiving calls from the past, the plot really didn't make any sense here if you stop and think about it for a minute. This also had that Canadian made-for-TV aesthetic which didn't really help. Main actress was very pretty though.

#10 Never Let Go (2024)

This isn't Halle Berry's year with first the disaster that was The Union and now this complete stinker. It had potential I guess but the whole thing where they had to be attached to a rope but still could roam around the forest? I can't even move my vacuum in the house without the cable getting stuck every five minutes. +1 for the kids and the dog as they did a great job.

Film 9: Once Bitten
Early Jim Carey is pretty great in this.

If you want a movie that did the premise well, I think you should watch Frequency (2000). It is a drama with thriller segments instead of a horror film though.

Thanks! According to my movie log I should have seen it but I don't remember it... will rewatch it sometime for sure!

  • Smile - Slow in parts and some stupid decisions/rants by the main character who should know better, but I enjoyed it overall.
  • Event Horizon - I had seen this years ago and forgot most of it. Would like to see the non Studio interference cut.
  • Midnight Mass - Watched the first episode last weekend but watched the remaining 6 over this weekend. Heard good things about it and think it was really good. One thing against it is the old age makeup made it obvious there was going to be de-aging later on.

I started October traveling to another country and didn't manage to plan everything in time, make my list and watch 1 movie a day, let alone post here, but I'm getting organized now
This is my list of movies watched so far, I'm watching according to the availability of streams

1 - Good Maners - It's a brazilian movie about a werewolf, started very good but lost the pace after some time, but still a nice movie and a little different, 6,5 / 10
2 - Totally Killer - It's a funny slasher, with time travel and some fiction hahaha, but funny to watch, 7 / 10
3 - The Plataform 2 - Didn't like too much, the first one is better, but it's not a bad movie, just confusing 5 / 10
4 - Caddo Lake - Nice thriller from Shyamalan, 8/10
5 - Blood Fest - Another Nicolas Cage movie, good to kill the time hehehe 6 / 10
6 - Thanksgiving - I was curious to see since last year, it's a nice slasher from Eli Roth 7,5/10
7 - Looking Glass - Not bad, but not special too, only a decennt movie, 6 / 10
8 - Salem´s Lot - It's good, but at least to me, it's rushed, worth the watch, 7/10
9 - Talk to Me - Probably the best so far, I liked it 8/10
10 - Night Swin - Another one generic, but good to kill the time, 6 / 10

#11 The Lift (1983)

I don't usually do rewatches but I hadn't seen this movie since I was a kid in the 80s, and my wife had never seen it so here we are, a somewhat crappy Dutch low budget movie about a killer elevator that has a cult status in Dutch speaking countries. It was nostalgic fun!
