3 films longer than they needed to be and 1 that was a decent length:
Alien Romulus - Same length as the original yet I think they used the time better in the original. Even rushed through the facehugger to birthing period. Overall I did like it though.

It Follows - Also longer than it needed to be. Even though it's only 1:40 it, like Smile, just decides to see how often it can tease the demon attacking.

Terrifier 3 - Yep, another one that's too long. This series like Final Destination, Saw and other ones like it, are all about the kills. The story is pretty secondary.

Abigail - I enjoyed this one. Was fun and a decent take on an existing monster.

So I had to dive down the rabbit hole with this one because I had never heard of it and thought that was some sort of eerie Jennifer Connely doppleganger. Turns out most of us may know this film as CREEPERS

which I saw on the shelf a million times in video stores but don't think I've ever seen.

Wiki has this little story about the chimp in the film....IMAGINE being a kid actor having to deal with this!!!!!

The chimpanzee, Tanga, who had previously starred in Bingo Bongo,[13] proved difficult to direct, as Argento wanted to avoid its performance seeming comical.[11] During the film's climax, the hand wielding the straight razor hitting Daria Nicolodi was in fact Tanga's own, which managed to scar her despite the object being blunted. It then proceeded to attack Connelly and bit off part of one of her fingers.[14] In 2008, Connelly stated on Late Night with Conan O'Brien that Tanga continued to act aggressively toward her from that point on,[15] thus necessitating a body double for some scenes.[16] Further problems arose when Tanga escaped during an outdoor scene and did not return for three days until forest rangers attracted it with food.

BIT OFF A PART OF HER FINGER!!!!

That's interesting. We only know it as here as Phenomena and I'm just leaning that it has another title elsewhere. Which is kind of the norm back in the day.

Creepers sounds like a B grade film title though and that is certainly not what this is. I like this movie more than Suspiria, actually. And that does not need an alternative title for any audience. We all know what it is.

I was 10 years old when I first saw this on VHS and Connelly single-handedly is responsible for my biased love for brunettes to this day.

Also, does this movie make her a scream queen?

This is still about the only anime that actually feels like a real movie to me, as in something that could get a shot for shot live action adaptation and still work. Excellent film.
The feeling is mutual. It's so mature and depressing and strong.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter - Liked it though not sure what they were thinking with the ending considering the source material
It's not like the character was involved with killing Dracula

Ring 2 (Japanese version) - Rewatched the original last year for the first time in about 20 years (And now I write that, I didn't realise it was that long ago and now feeling old). I suppose they didn't want to retread the original so took a few shortcuts and seemed to go by their own rules. Still liked it. Will watch Ring 0 as well later.

Longlegs - Second Maika Monroe film this weekend, along with It Follows. I know I said other films were longer than they needed to be, but I think this could've done with more time. While I did like it, they seemed to go with finding quick ways to get to the next part they wanted.

All Hallows' Eve - Wanted to see Art the Clown's debut and can see where the supernatural elements from the later films came into play. Think the second part was the weaker of the 3.

Silent Hill - Have never played the games but saw this in the cinema on release and remembered liking it. So rewatched and still liked it. Thought it moves along at a decent pace and everything creepy enough. Of course, a lot left unexplained but to be expected.

I was also getting the Mutant X-Men vibe from her when
she summoned those insects
. She also reminds me of the Bioweapon Eveline in RE7.

Wait that gif above was a Jennifer Connelly double?! Always thought that was her, was 99% sure it was her.

You should really watch the Phenomena version as it is the better and longer version of Creepers which took out a lot of scenes. There are actually three versions, the Creeper one which is much shorter with lots of cut content, the Phenomena version and the Italian Phenomena version which is the longest but some scenes are dubbed in Italian making it weird when you see it go from English to Italian to English again. So the best balance is the regular Phenomena version.

Saw this movie in 2022 since I found out about Jennifer Connelly in 2022 from the majestic After Dark Career Opportunity video which sadly got deleted after gaining over 100 million views over a year ago. I guess the artist copy right striked it since it had more views than his own official video song lol. I also liked it more than Suspira as it's my favorite movie from Dario Argento. I'll probably go Phenomena > Suspira/Tenebrae > Deep Red. But still have to watch the other Dario Argento movies.

I recommend Etoile, another movie by Jennifer Connelly that was released in 1988. It has elements from Suspira and Phenomena but it wasn't as good as those two. It's a italian/American hybrid movie like those two but wasn't made by Dario Argento.

Congrats dude. I've really enjoyed seeing you short quips and animated gifs all month (and all year long in the main movie thread).

Cheers!
Thanks mate. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I'm kind of sad that it came to an end but like you said there's still the movie thread.

I had to jump ahead a few days because I don't really have time for flix this week.

This is a hot take but it might be the best European horror flick.

I know, I know...

Had no idea Connelly made another one of those art house films. That's wild. I'll put it on the list.

As for Argento. It's weird. His films are forgettable and then you go back to them and am like, this is pretty cool.

I thought that this was a really clever take on supernatural / psychic horror and has one of the best jump scares of the year.

Not really a horror movie per se, (it's a domestic drama at heart) but has a film premise so disturbing / awful, it almost qualifies as one.

Both are available on Shudder.

Only thing I don't like about Phenomena is the music. Would have been so much better without the heavy metal and more Goblin.

Uh, but it was that era of "pretty boy looking pouty" casting that is REAL hard to go back to :p

And HOW DARE YOU mention vampires and road movie without talking about the UNDISPUTED KING of vampire road movies?!?!...

#18 When a Stranger Calls (1979)

Guess where the calls were coming from! Had this on my watchlist for years, and yeah it's OK but it is true the middle part is a bit boring.

#19 Pathology (2008)

maxresdefault-2.jpg

The 00s were so edgy... a bunch of douche doctors being absolute douches. The gore SFX were pretty good I have to say.

#20 In a Violent Nature (2024)

in-a-violent-nature-streaming.jpg

This so-called "elevated horror" thing that is happening but it means bad acting and hardly any plot? Yeah it is not working for me.

I also went with a Halloween. But since have seen all of the sequels to the Carpenter movie, I watched the Rob Zombie remake for the first time. The uncut version.

I watched it recently as well, but the Rob Zombie sequel is a far better film in my opinion. This one leans too hard on the white trash psycho angle.
