Looks like a company in South Korea has developed the world's smartest robot! It can talk to a server over a wireless connection and receive information about changing situations very quickly.

This is it folks, we are on the verge of the day of reckoning!

Um...my three year old laptop can do that. Perhaps I should paste fuzzy little fake hands onto it...

Oh and "so, are you a...pleasure model?"

I REALLY believe us humans should nip this shit in the bud. Why the fuck should we make them smart? What does it do for us in the long run?

Just make the AI do whatever we need it to do. That's it. They don't need to learn or grow.

Science Fiction creates scenarios
Those scenarios subconciously effect the leaders of technology
Those leaders subconciously mold their technology to fit the science fiction they like so much

That's a bunch of bullshit.

The more logical explaination is that science fiction writers are psychic.

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
I was just going to make a robot thread.

Toyota has decided that their going to have newer, smarter robots working their assembly lines at about 12 plants. They will be doing detail work that was typically too hard for an older generation of robots. It seems that Japan has a real problem with ageing population and low birth rates and rather than let dirty, butter-breathed foreigners come into their country their going to create a robot workforce that costs about the same as to hire the Chinese.

WELCOME NEW MASTERS!

Well, if you want to make robots advanced enough to serve in the workforce, or even replace human workers, you're going to have to give them sufficient enough intelligence to react to their surroundings, assess and deal with unexpected situations, etc.

At the same time, though, that's a whole lot different than making them self-aware and arming them with capabilities to destroy their human masters. I'm sure someone will eventually do that in a laboratory setting just to prove it can be done (and also as an interesting commentary on what makes a living thing, consciousness, and so forth) but I don't see companies mass producing robots that are capable of enslaving the human race.

Will the new robots kick the shit out of the old robots like in I, Robot?
