IMO it's less about their failures (especially for young men who follow him) and more about them chasing the wrong things in life. Social media has warped so many people's minds into chasing an unattainable lifestyle. They see other people's carefully curated highlight reels and think they are failures, which makes them easy pickings for grifters like Tate.
A lot of it goes back to people not wanting (often due to media influence) to get married, have kids, put down roots, and be active in their communities. Instead, people think that they're supposed to fill those voids with vapid consumerism and casual sex.

It really does take on a pseudo-religious tone, and now he's obviously removed the mask and is explicitly religious. As a general rule, if your ideology has multiple built in ways to dismiss all criticism, you're probably in a cult. The video game Norco has a great quest line that kind of has fun with this sort of plot.

This is true in all aspects in life - I work in sales, every day I get my mailbox spammed with ‘8 best subject lines’, ‘do these 3 things to get a reply’. People that use these strategies are bottom of the barrel in my team, the ones being disciplined and just mastering the basics crush it every quarter.

I am actually part of the same financial bracket as tate thanks to selling my software businesses and investments years ago - and honestly I see people like him within the extended circles I am in on an almost daily basis. They are insufferable and deeply shallow people that have severe insecurities - which means they know how to pander to people like them and extract money. It's a donkey and carrot dangle.
I had some insecurities, was homeless for a time, have lived the life at the bottom of the barrel and now I'm secure I feel a huge amount of anger for those that feed on the people stuck in the bottom.
