I am trying to generate some interest in my game leading up to the release of the new Kindle Fire tablet on Amazon's marketplace.

"Prices are slashed $1.99 -> Free" said in my best mattress commercial voice, for a short time. Do yourself a favor and grab it now!

And if you do decide to grab it, kindly do me a favor and leave a review for the app over there as well. It's a big help. Thanks everyone!

Just grabbed it. Will leave a review after I play around with it.

Is there any advantage to letting Amazon give your game away for free besides the exposure? Do you have some type of in app payment or are these types of apps not allowed on the Amazon market place?

I'll be straight with you - The app is not making any money right now, but it's got a decent amount of reviews in the different markets that it is in. If I am able to get some kind of visibility on their free store and carry that momentum through the new tablet launch, I figure it will get me a healthy amount of DLs at that point. I can potentially use that to get some alright sales @ Xmas-time if enough downloads push it high enough on the chart.

I have a free version (with ads) available on that store as well, but it's never seen any movement worth mentioning. If this plan doesn't work, I don't feel as though I'll have lost more than a negligible amount of sales anyway, given the history.

Honestly I didn't download it before because I thought it was just another puzzler. Turns out I was wrong, this is some excellent puzzler design mixed with a little Bubble Bobble. There's got to be a good way to differentiate this from the hoards of other puzzlers on the market.

Thanks for checking it out. Yeah I knew I was asking for trouble by making a puzzle game! My other game releasing later this year (GunHead) is more action/adventure, and will be very obviously so from screenshots, so I am counting on that being more enticing to pick up for at least that reason :)

Nice! I look forward to it. In the meantime with 180 Ultra, why not put a "pro" mode in or something for all the people that got it free so far?

Ground Effect is now available for non Tegra or Xperia Play devices!

Sentinel 3: homeworld is awesome. This is the best tower defense game I've played.

It's 2.99 on the android market (I think it has the latest update on the android market) It's still worth it for 2.99. The commander unit is a nice twist in the Tower defense genre. Amazon has it for cheaper - 2.79, but I think it's not the as updated as the Android market version.

edit: just tried 180 Ultra. I enjoy it. Nice job. I would love more modes of play (story/campaign.. I want to know more about Ozzie).

Thanks guys :) Sorry to be naggy, please help me out and leave a review on Amazon App store here if you enjoy it (especially if you picked it up for free and want to "give a little something back.") I need to get my ranks up in the next month's time, and this is really the only way to do it. For all the free downloads I got, I think barely a half of a percent have actually left any kind of rating. It's tough! /whine

As for future modes, the programmer and I got pretty far into designing a new "Strategy Mode" that reshapes the gameplay rules quite a bit (and could justify releasing as a whole different app!) He just started a very busy new job and must move on, so I will pursue development of this mode at a later time (probably after the New Year.. I am working on 3 other games right now!)

I do still have a lot of great ideas of things to do to expand 180 Ultra, it's never got enough success that I could justify going further with it. We will see.

In the meantime, here's a WIP of something else to wet your whistle.

Yeah I left a review right after my first play. We've got your back here, don't worry!

Also Muffin Knight looks awesome! Just downloaded it this morning, will have to try it soon.

Meh. If an indie dev doesn't want to monetize their game (or perfect the execution and presentation), that's their problem. Worked for Angry Birds and Tiny Wings.

after checking the vids of crate box...yup its a ripoff with better graphics.
also I thought muffin knight was a platformer adventure...its not. instead it looks like the screen is locked on one screen and waves of enemies enter from the top. might still be fun but not really what I wanted.

They actually do and are working on it. I will say in Muffin Knights defense that I'm not sure they knew they were working on a mobile version when they started development.

I will also say that your post is pretty disgusting, too.

Trigger-happy arcade-platformer Super Crate Box is due for release this month on iOS devices. Unfortunately for Android owners, Dutch developer Vlambeer have revealed that it has no plans to port the game.
“[We have] no direct or concrete plans,” Vlambeer's business and development head Rami Ismail told Pocket Gamer.

“Android is a bit of an unexplored territory for us, so we'll have to check into the possibilities, the competition and the distribution model before being able to tell more about that.

“As we perceive it now, Android is a bit of a minefield for devs.”

Super Crate Box clone Muffin Knight is currently high in the Android Market charts.

I believe we're talking general mobile devices, not just Android. Or at least that's what I assumed since I don't believe Tiny Wings is on Android yet and he brought that up.

Wonder how much of a spike this gets your downloads:

https://twitter.com/#!/amazonappstore/status/125973954954407936

They have 55,000+ folllowers

I gotta give credit to Amazon. They've been very receptive to little tiny no-name devs who've actually reached out to them (case in point). I asked them to follow me on Twitter, after which I was able to ask them (direct msg) to give me a tweet that my game was free, and they did.

I got 541 DLs today from Amazon App store today as a result (1,426 clicks on that link) Compare that with 31 DLs the previous day (also free). I was getting maybe about 3 DLs/week prior to that (when charging for the game) on Amazon market. I am hoping this will change after the Kindle Fire launches, but of course I am not expecting anything - worth a try though! I'lll update the progress of this experiment in here, if people are curious to know how it winds up.

Good springboard for another discussion, I might make a thread later in the day. I totally believe taking game mechanics is fair game, especially if you can improve in some ways the original lacked. Wouldn't have Warcraft 2 otherwise!

Angry Birds works so well because of its presentation and simple point system as an incentive to improve. And Tiny Wings because of its achievements, stat tracking, sounds and great procedural graphics. Haven't played Muffin Knight but I'm sure it improved in some way to make it stand out (definitely not visual style).

It's good that Dungeon Defenders, Super Crate Box, Cave Story and other great PC freeware titles are being monetized, but they were really slow on the uptake because the market was ready a long time ago.

"Good springboard for another discussion, I might make a thread later in the day. I totally believe taking game mechanics is fair game, especially if you can improve in some ways the original lacked. Wouldn't have Warcraft 2 otherwise!"

I think it's one thing to take some game mechanics and another to carbon copy the game, wholesale, with a new paint job. I don't think ading Achievements, Unlockables, or improving the graphics qualify as improving the actual "game." At least not enough to justify blatant ripping.

FYI, Dungeon Defenders was released on mobile platforms ages ago, well before their upcoming PC/Console release. I don't really believe they were beaten to the market by anything, but I wasn't really paying attention, either.

Ha, meant Desktop Dungeons. I don't like Dungeon Defenders on mobile at all!

Guess we won't find common ground. I think manipulating behaviour, accessibility/presentation and creating incentives are fundamental. Especially on phones where the target market is finicky, cheap, and suffers from a short attention span.

If a game can do well enough to captivate that audience, it likely wasn't due to gameplay alone.

Is there a way to track which game is on sale, kind of like appshopper for iOS?

Want to get those Story game, but not at regular price.

lol I actually edited my post when they changed the price. It was a steal at 99 cents. I bought a soda for that much yesterday.

I found this new android space uncharted mmo and have been having fun with it so far:

https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS53b3p3YXJlLnNwYWNlIl0.

ss-320-0-0

ss-320-3-0

was looking for a new mmo on my phone and found this, I refuse to play those text based mmo craps...this one has graphics.

its kind of like a very slow advance wars in space.

the free trial version lets you play for 2 weeks and restarts every 1st and 3rd thursdays of the month. restarting is good because otherwise a alliance of players gets too big and destroys everyone else.

Space: Uncharted is a space-based Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) strategy game. Games take place over several weeks to 1-2 months.
* Players colonize planets, construct buildings, create fleets of ships, explore the galaxy, form alliances with friends, & conquer other enemies’ territory.
* Each game can support thousands of players in the same galaxy.
* Space: Uncharted is a strategy game, and runs slowly to allow players to choose actions carefully and collaborate with allies. Each game can take several weeks to a month, so players need only check in on their progress a few times a day.
* In-game, email, and/or txt notifications alert you to unfolding events, such as discovering new planets or being attacked.

Join the battle!

its confusing at first you must watch the tutorial and then still you should go to the site forum and read strategys and questions asked.

turorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hRp2_7L5DI&feature=player_embedded

I'm on the first trial server under the name 'grrizzly'. if you join make sure you join a alliance with other players because you will get stomped solo.

Eve of Genesis is available for 10 bucks on the Android Market...is the money going to some kind of charity ? Because judging by the screenshots, at that price it's either that or it's got to be the damn best RPG Maker game ever.

3.99 on Amazon Appstore and Android Market for me. Might be your region. If I remember right the other game by that dev was 7.99 for the longest time.

nobody wants to play space uncharted mmo? now is the best time to learn how to play when its new and its not too crowded, I got lucky and my base started far from any major players so I've been building since thursday without being invaded so far.

they say its coming for iphone in november and its cross platform with android so maybe ios gaf will play since you guys are ignoring me.
