That sounds kinda weird. If you have already tried reinstalling the app, maybe you should try downloading the SD storage files for your device elsewhere and transfer them onto the card, but I have no idea if that would work.
Ya I've re downloaded the data but I'll try deleting the app too I guess and see what happens.

The PvZ user reviews are littered with 1 stars for force closing and general crashing... HOWEVER, Android reviewers are probably about as intelligent as Youtube commenters.

GAF, is it true? Does the Android port suck? Say it isn't so. Samsung Galaxy S Captivate user here.

randomly searched for it on marketplace and it came up, really impressed so far, running on GSII
great for under a fiver as well..

It ran fine for me on the Cliq 2 back when I got the game through Amazon App Store. I only played like several levels though so I don't know if any force closing happens later.

By the way, user reviews on the web store can be filtered by your device, so check that out too.

Looks like GTAIII isn't compatible with all Xperia PLAY models, despite not saying so on the description. Won't let me download on the Xperia PLAY 4G. :(

I've been trying to download Sonic CD all day. So frustrating that even if you tap the screen, it stops the download? Restarts the download from the beginning and doesn't start where it left off? That's pretty ridiculous.

Here's what I did, worked on my first try;

1) Wait until you go to bed.
2) Plug in the phone.
3) Start download.
4) Don't touch the phone again, just go the fuck to sleep.

Should work fine.

I have the Amazon version on the Kindle Fire and other than a loading dialog when I adjust the system volume, it runs perfectly. I think I had one crash (in the game itself) and I am willing to ascribe that as much to early Fire firmware as anything else.

Runs fine on my captivate. I got it through Amazon. Crashes my phone from time to time, but so does many games.

Bought GTA3 on release day for my captivate. The store said it was compatible so I was like, 'hells yea, lets do this'. Downloaded the app, did the automatic install after starting it for the first time which took about 28 minutes. Watched the credits then bam. Black screen, phone becomes unresponsive and I have to pull the battery to get the phone to respond at all. Messed around some to get it to work and no luck. Did some digging and I see that on rockstar's site they don't list my phone as compatible, despite it saying it was on the store. Now a few days later and the store has been updated to say my phone isn't compatible as well. I have yet to have these headaches with my iPod. I suppose it was my fault for assuming that what the store said was accurate rather than looking it up on rockstars support forum before purchasing. Still pretty irritated.

You can see what devices the reviewers had so maybe that would help. Have not tried it myself since I already played through it on PC and iOS.

The Sixaxis controller app is amazing. Sonic CD doesn't appear to support gamepads, but the new touch profiles (maps button presses to touch screen presses that you can move around) work perfectly for this game. D-pad and cross set up and it works flawlessly. I still need to see what CD looks like over HDMI.

Asked this in the Nexus thread, but what are some nice high-res clean-looking games? Picked up Zookeeper HD and surprisingly for being a puzzle game it's quite pretty. Any others? On a Galaxy Nexus.

Has anyone here tried Lumines for Android? Took a look and it looks pretty shitty visual wise. How does it compare to the PSP versions?

What are the best games like Diablo?

I got my first Android phone recently (ZTE Blade).

I tried a few games. Zenonia's blurry graphics really puts me off.

Also, what do I use to scan barcodes?

Is also anything like the Flash game Stick RPG? I think it'd be really fun to play something like it on the phone.

PvZ works just fine for me on my G2 (Desire Z). The only disappointing thing about it is that the character sprites are blurry, but the backgrounds are clearly HDPI resolution.

Emmisary of War is a great game by some (I think) ex-Diablo devs. Give that a shot!

Also as far as comments about compatibility are concerned, rememeber a few things:
1) Amazon Appstore doesn't filter by devices. This causes a lot of headache and artificially bad reviews. Use the Android Market whenever in doubt, as that has device filters.
2) The Android ecosystem is a lot like Windows in that it supports many different kinds of hardware (there are hundreds out there already and more every day). This leads to incompatibilities with certain hardware/software combinations, but the same thing happens with PC's too. Treat it like a PC and not like a Mac and you won't be disappointed. The strength and inherent weakness in Apples philosophy is that they only have a handful of devices compared to competitors, so while you won't run in to any compatibility issues you will certainly not have much choice in products.

Score for gaming on tablets!

The Sixaxis Controller app now supports mapping controls to emulate touch screen. This basically adds controller support to all games (with some tinkering).

PvZ works fine on my LG Optimus.

Just had one crash, and I'm pretty sure it was my fault for turning the volume down whilst it was loading. It didn't like that.

It's been fine otherwise though, runs really well.

Ok so I bought a new samsung android phone to play mobile games and I'm so pissed right now.

I don't know if it's a problem with the android platform or my phone but it saves everything to the tiny internal memory (about 180mb) when I have a 4gb SD card available. I can't download any games because I have insufficient space! Duke Nukem is too big and I can't download it. Yesterday I couldn't download some RPGs (they were 30-50mbs each).

I keep deleting stuff all the time to make space but it's never enough. There is an option to "move to sd" but you have to download it on the internal memory first (which is full).

I also know there is a way to change to sd by default with the android sdk but it sound very complicated and long for something that should take 2 seconds in the settings menu.

How do you guys manage to download and play all these games? I can't even take advantage of the duke nukem promo (can you save the game to your account and download it later?)

There are so many apps and games but I can't take advantage of any of it when the available space is so small. I'm about to return this pos phone and forget about this trash!

Try the apps 2 sd app. It will auto tell you which apps you can move to sd. Should help clear up some space for you. Which phone did you get btw?

I already have apps 2 sd and it tells me no movable apps and the memory is full. It doesn't let me download to sd instead. Duke Nukem is over 50mbs and Third Blade too. I literally have to delete everything in my phone just to play these 2 games.

I got the Samsung Galaxy Ace, I just wanted it to play games so I thought it was good enough for me but I can't play/download more than 1 game at a time. Very frustrating.

Are you sure the games aren't just too large to download? Don't know if the Galaxy Ace has market download limits, but on my Galaxy S Captivate I can't download anything from the official android market larger than 40mb.

Yeah, in your situation, frugal fridge management is the only way to deal with it (backing up apps using ASTRO for example and uninstalling). Even with apps being allowed to be moved to the SD card, you'll still run into memory space issues. It would really be nice if Google implemented an option to directly download to SD card.

I can't believe that it's almost 2012 and there is still no option to save your downloads/installs on the SD card instead of the internal memory. This is worse than a floppy disk.

After fiddling with Astro for over an hour (deleting and backing up what little I could) I managed to make enough space to download Duke Nukem (59 mb, the game is 55mb). The game gave me an error and it didn't work. The "move to sd" option was grayed out and it was "private" in Astro so I couldn't make a backup. I had to delete it right away to make room.

This is way too much work and I can't be bothered with all this shit. Very discouraged about android gaming :-(

Any one tired Dead Space for android yet? I am having issues on the Zero-G sections, it wont register my shaking of the phone to innitiate the jumps, have a Galaxy SII

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of the games on Android are really designed for high end phones, which will have much more memory. There are a lot of smaller/good games for Android, but I can definitely see the frustrations of not being able to play some of the bigger games. I have three devices running Android and none are meant to be (Nook Color rooted, HD2 rooted with Android installed and Touchpad with Android installed). Most games work on most devices, but there are certainly some annoyances here and there.

That sucks. But you pretty much nailed it in your first post:

pos phone
The specs are about 2 years out of date at this point.

Android does have some memory management issues, for example my Droid x2 has an internal memory section, an internal 'sd' card section, and then the true sd card portion. The real sd card is off limits for most games. Move to sd options move to the 'internal' sd card not the real sd card.
At the same time I have a decent number of Gb to play with and have about 40 or 50 games installed including gta3 and have been universally impressed with the quality of android gaming, other than the obvious control issues.
PS duke nukem isn't worth the effort.

Damn, sounds like you're out of luck. :(
Yeah, like others said, you'll probably just have to avoid games with those large downloads from the Market, and try the games that have small downloads or those that have you download additional data directly to SD card. Another thing to watch out for is compatability too, like you probably have noticed. Some devs are better than others in having games work on the devices they have available for download, but others don't and it is just "compatible for your device until someone confirms it isn't." Sometimes it is a bit more trial and error for low-to-mid range Android devices.

Thanks rpmurphy and everyone! I guess i'll have to stick with Angry Birds and Air Penguins lol

I tried Third Blade (another 50mb game) and it played fine for the 5 minutes I played. I just need an option to move the downloads to my empty 4go sd card :-(

Well, if you wanted to play mobile games, buying a low-end android smartphone is kind of not the kind of thing you want to do.

Our Android ports/support for our PikPok games has kind of sucked to date, but we've been working on improving that with some dedicated resource in recent months.

We have updates for Flick Kick Field Goal and Flick Kick Field Goal Kickoff going live today on the Google marketplace and to Amazon over the next couple of days. Should have increased stability and some new features.

Flick Kick Football and Flick Kick Rugby versions will follow soon early next year.

We also have another update pass to do over the whole lot which will happen early next year too, as we've identified some graphic stretching/resolution issues which is making the games look less than optimal on most devices.

So thanks for the patience of anyone supporting our games on Android. We are trying to suck less.

Today might just be the day when Sega's servers let me download Sonic CD..maybe. God damn, this is some horrible shit, but from a Swedish point of view it makes complete sense. Why? Sega = To be slow/sluggish.
We had a lot of Sega video game related puns back in the 90s..
