Ask me about the GAF Notebook
http://www.androidauthority.com/t-mobile-uncarrier-redefine-device-payment-767772/

According to marketing material for T-Mobile’s next big move that was shared with Android Authority, Magenta is set to offer its own device as well as redefine how you pay for your device plan each month. While we don’t have a lot of information about the device itself, we know its going to be a value-based proposition, designed to offer the hot new features of a $650-$850 flagship phone at a much more affordable price.

What’s the next Uncarrier plan all about we hear you ask? We’re not able to reveal everything about this plan but it’s likely to be commitment free with lifetime warranty and insurance included. So if you’ve broken your phone, want a new one or have had enough and just want to return it, T-Mobile’s plan will have you covered.

Has anyone ever used those aluminum frame bumpers? I am still in search of a proper bumper for the Moto Z to add grip but allow mods and I see some new aluminum ones cropping up.

See I can get behind carrier bloat if it comes with a discount. Gimme a top end android phone with good support, for < $500 with some carrier ads. OK! I can live with that!

Don't those have an impact on cellular signal? Tpu ones generally don't have that issue and have drop protection, but not as sexy

Problem is I can't find a tpu one. The only one, by Incipio has huge front edge depth.

Ah okay, I thought I was missing out on some cool feature I couldn't find.

You can get a similar look with Nova Launcher.

This is on my G5.

LG and Samsung have always had the same type of bloat but LG has managed to optimise the software a lot more. it's just that samsung outshines them so much in hardware nobody cares
Their LCD panels are really good and I feel like they've done a good job camera wise lately.

Samsung are ahead in a lot of areas, but maybe not camera and the S8 seems to have a meh camera. They also keep putting pentile in everything, even some LCDs.

I've still not seen anything compelling enough to make me want to upgrade my 6P. Hopefully the Pixel 2 XXL is for real.

Yea my battery has gotten so bad that it only last like an hour (and i don't want to replace it). Ordered it anyway.

I messed around with my friend's S8.

It's so slick.

I played with one at the store. I think I like it, but can't tell for sure because I couldn't really grip it due to security grips on it. But it does seem pretty slick. All this talk of new phones has me itching to wanna upgrade from my Nexus 5x. Decisions decisions.

The battery on my 6P became terrible, where it would shut off at 30%.

Plus the 810 was a notoriously bad SoC.

820 feels like a huge improvement.

That's why I bought the 3T. I couldn't deal with the horrendous battery life. It's only going to be a stop gap for whatever blows me away later in the year.

Played with an S8 at the largest T Mobile store in the US (apparently). They took off the security link so I could properly hold it. Someone explain to me how 5mm shaved off can make a device that much slimmer looking. My S7 Edge looks like a fatass compared to the S8. The S8 was soooo easy to hold.... The S8+ was amazing as well because of the ability to hold it one handed fairly easily while having such a huge screen. Both devices were snappy too.

Also went to play with a Pixel again. Still the most responsive Android device ever. When my S7 Edge, it's smooth, but there's always a noticeable delay on the back and multitask buttons in compared to the Pixel.

Am I crazy for thinking the S8 is too small? I know the display size is large, but I guess the slim bezels and narrowness of it makes it feel smaller than it is.

Am I the only person that doesn't like Nougat? I don't like the notification system as much as Marshmallow, battery life is worse, and the phone gets hotter. I think I'm moving back to Marshmallow.

Sounds like everyone's 6P battery struggles are real. That nonsense happened to me ONCE and I bailed out to iPhone while getting a full refund from Google. Why continue to use the 6P trash? Huawei fucked their buyers.

All Nexus 6P owners need to come to the S8+ dark side. You will love it. I promise.

Never thought I'd like a Samsung again other than the Note. Blown away by how much improvement there is in every aspect of the phone, user interface etc. The last Samsung phone I had was the S3. I got the S1 when it came out, then the S2, then the S3 and after that they went on a huge nosedive for me.

It's mindblowing to see how far phones have come in the last 5 years.

LG fucked their buyers even worse. Pretty shameful that all of Google's phones last year are completely fucked.

5x still going strong here.

"Knocks wood"

Even thought the phone I got had a busted headphone jack and i needed a replacement. And ever since a update a few months ago Wifi just refuses to connect sometimes.

One day I might. I'd love to get my hands on a S8+.

"Samsung makes the best screens in the world!", "Tere is no burn-in", "Your screen must be defective.."

Even Samsung can't challenge physics :p
This is why I'm not happy about Samsung going with software buttons on the S8. It's going to happen eventually and it really sucks.

But not when you are reading in one spot over and over it burns in over time. Also that status bar burn in.

There's an option to hide the status bar for the broswer:
But then there's the issue of the actual text. For me personally I didn't disable the white status bar within the broswer and text color is grey. When I go my home screen, there's no status bar and the text appears white. I think this ends up balancing out with all the switching back and forth I do, not to mention when I watch video and play games, this takes up the full screen. I'm using an S7 Edge.

You guys, I finally got my first Android phone.
After 4 years with my Lumia 920, I have now upgraded to an LG G6. My previous phone was an LG as well. This one looks great and has everything I need. The experience is really different, so it's going to take a while to get used to things. That's the worst part for me, really. Starting over and changes to my routine are difficult.

It's always very interesting to see AMOLED vs LCD discussions.

Neither are perfect and I don't think there's a clear winner, or that it's a black on white argument. I've seen entire rows at once of burned in S7s, that got the burn in with extensive use in just 2 months. The way I'd put it is AMOLED is a more bipolar product, much like some phones, and LCD is more balanced as a whole.

Burn in is awful and happens. It happens in specific cases that might not affect a huge portion of lighter users. But it happens and it's awful. Whites personally are no good. The default mode is more saturated and apparently not as true to what the eye see (tho you can change the mode).
Blacks are... Well. It's just beautiful. It's absolutely gorgeous having true black. Viewing angles are incredible. Quad HD AMOLED feels like no longer a screen, but rather some artist painted the interface over the phone chassis. So it's brilliant in what it's good at, and awful at what it does worse.

I personally lightly prefer AMOLED over LCD.

LCDs are more balanced. They do good blacks but not even close to AMOLED, good whites. Colors are truer to life by default, and no screen burn in. It's not the best at anything, but I also see it as having no real awful things about it, which balances it.

It really comes down to a personal taste. Whatever you prefer today we are blessed to have such quality screens on phones.

There really are pros and cons to both. I can say that I haven't ever got burn in on any of my many OLED devices over the many years (my first bring the Zune HD in 2009). But I'm not going to pretend the problem doesn't exist. For me, I adore the blacks and the colors of OLED - SPECIFICALLY in the S8 - and I love that it allows things like having the display curve off the sides.

My shit is flawless because I'm not an idiot with my cell my phone. The amoled screen is brilliant on my phone. It was brilliant on my S7 Edge. And back when I bought myself my first flagship smart phone, the amoled screen on the Galaxy Nexus was brilliant. No burn in or image retention on any of those. Maybe I got lucky with Galaxy Nexus, I don't know. But maintaining these screens is not as nearly as hard as it was maintaining Plasma screens (from experience). Took a look at my brothers Nexus 6p, which typically stays brighter than my screen on average. Still looks amazing.

There are no pros and cons of AMOLED v. LCD. AMOLED is just objectively better. The only issue is potential burn in, IMO.

Are we really going to devolve into an argument over LCD vs AMOLED again? :/

I don't see why not. People are praising Samsung phones again. Give it a bit and they'll go back to bashing them when their S8 phones inevitably, and like clockwork, slow down and lag. Every. Single. Year.

Sonic Cycle.

Doesn't every Android phone slow down and lag in a year? Since updating your OS inevitably results in problems in addition to whatever havoc apps can cause over the same period, it just seems like an issue that impacts the OS as a whole, not just Samsung's stuff.

Every Android phone needs a factory reset periodically especially after big updates.
