I honestly don't even know if we're on the same page anymore. I was never trying to contest Shield Hero's popularity?
You were contesting the r/anime rankings claiming that they were bullshit. I was making a point as to how Shield Hero's ranking is not BS by explaining the context of the 2nd cour competing against new anime.
You've been relying on the burden of proof way too much throughout this conversation (more on that later) which is kind of funny given that I actually don't even know why you highly regard the Reddit ranking so much (you were the one who brought it up first).
Did I actually claim that r/anime's weekly rankings are always correct?
Seems like you're missing the point entirely. My point is that Shield Hero has managed to maintain its ranking in the Top 5 consistently because the audience still enjoy the anime.
We seem to agree it's a popularity contest though? And again, you don't really understand the Kaguya vs Mob, nor addressed the other shows like RtE and FB being low so I guess I'll just agree to disagree.
I don't understand Kaguya vs Mob because I haven't seen the situation myself. Therefore, there's no point in me commenting on something I don't know. That would be stupid of me.
And the popularity is dependent on the people's perception of the anime's merits.
Yeah, you're not getting the point and it's getting kind of annoying now. I'm not arguing over what the term means.
*I* used the term differently than to how *you* are used to it being used.
Therefore
Any discussion about it is moot, since we both originally had different ideas in mind and thus aren't on the same page.
Then why link Shield Hero to incels in the first place? Because of that juicy Guilt By Association?
Heck you haven't even proved whether actual incels actually watch Shield Hero in the first place.
I don't really care, dude. Its not one or the other for me. I'm not someone who gets anal over what the term means, I was just explaining what other people could mean when they use it.
You don't care and yet you cared enough to go out of your way to show what the "real" definition of what a harem is.
Here's a hint. The harem genre is not the same as your definition of what a harem is. Go look at all the harem anime like Shin Maou no Testament, Trinity Seven, Infinite Stratos, Nisekoi, and SAO and count how many female characters want to court the male protagonist romantically. Now, compare that to Shield Hero.
Again, you're ignoring context in why I was even saying that. Someone mentioned they hadn't heard anything about it in a while. I offered (or addressed more like) an explanation as to why that was the case. It's not like I spontaneously started saying it.
You offered an explanation for why
one person haven't heard much about Shield Hero. Meanwhile, I showed how that he is most likely an exception, not the rule. I also contested the claim of the writing being shallow in which you have poorly supported due to your lack of preparation to defend it.
This isn't politics or science or factual evidence where burden of proof is everything (though I suppose it is the internet). At some point, especially with the creative medium and especially anime/manga, you're going to run in to someone who essentially says "I don't like X but I saw it a while ago so I can't back it up". I'm sure you even have something you enjoyed or disliked but can't explain. It doesn't make that opinion any less valid and no they don't have to back it up.
Nope, not at all because that's not how I do things. If I don't finish a show, I do not pass off my opinions as if I've seen the entire thing. If I do drop a show and give my 2 cents, I give a disclaimer and admit that my opinions are made in limited scope.
And if I were to take your logic and apply it to video game reviews, then Reviewer X who played 25% of Game X holds as valid of an opinion as that of Reviewer B who played 100% of Game X. But guess what? The reality is that people will trust Reviewer B more because he actually played the game from beginning to end.
It seems more to me that you just want to shoot anyone's opinion down rather than actually have a discussion, at least that how you've come off. And yeah, it was a shoddy argument but I figured since I got myself into this mess I might as well see it through.
Criticizing someone's opinion =/= Shooting down someone's opinion. I have been doing the former, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the lazy character assassination attempt.
And no, seeing it through while being aware that your argument was a shoddy one is the definition of insanity. Go back, retool, and try again. But if you don't want to listen to my advice, fine. Apparently, I just want to shoot down your argument...
