Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
They're also partnering to bring AW and Control to the cinema and TV.

"I'm absolutely thrilled (yes!) by this opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our whole Remedy Connected Universe to mediums beyond games, and to build all of this in close collaboration, games, film, TV, and other mediums as well, as one unified vision. I trust Annapurna are the perfect partner for us to make this dream come true."

Actual translation: "we are bad at making business decisions such as receiving cash for store exclusives while killing our game sales so we decided to split the bill, again, with another team for Control 2. We look forward to launching Control 2 on another exclusive dead platform and not getting sales and sucking someone elses dick for finance, also I'm Sam Lake and I love DEI!"

ANNAPURNA PARTNERS WITH REMEDY TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE CONTROL AND ALAN WAKE FRANCHISES FOR FILM AND TELEVISION

Los Angeles, CA, August 29, 2024 – Annapurna today announced a partnership with Remedy Entertainment Plc (“Remedy”) to develop and produce their award-winning Control and Alan Wake franchises for film, television and other audiovisual formats.

As part of the deal, Annapurna will also work with Remedy as a co-production and co-financing partner for the upcoming game Control 2.
Remedy will continue to focus on developing Control 2 and the rest of its slate of games, building on their successful track record as a development partner. Last year, they worked with Epic Games Publishing on Alan Wake 2, which became Remedy’s fastest-selling game and was a winner of multiple Game of the Year Awards.

“At Remedy, our primary focus continues to be what we do best—crafting industry-defining video games that have earned us global recognition. Now, the time is right to expand the reach of Remedy's beloved franchises to an even broader global audience through film, television, and more. In Annapurna, we have found an outstanding partner who shares our ambition and passion for immersive storytelling. We are excited to see them bring the universes and characters we have created to life in new mediums, thanks to this unique deal.” commented Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

The deal was announced just a week after the news that ex-Epic Games executive Hector Sanchez had rejoined Annapurna as President of Interactive and New Media, where his role includes partnering with founder and CEO Megan Ellison to develop IP across mediums.

"This deal with Remedy isn't just about adapting great games—-it's about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate. By backing Remedy's move toward self-publishing, we're putting our faith in their vision,” said Sanchez. “We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television and beyond.”

“The way we tell stories is changing,” said Ellison. “Today people fall in love with characters and universes, not formats, and we’re excited to leverage Remedy’s beloved, immersive narratives in these new mediums.”

Seems like a good move for Remedy, and the work they did with Epic has probably helped them in many ways, while still retaining IP rights.

And they can continue to not make any money. If they do that again whoever is making the business decision at remedy is an idiot.
I mean witness AW2 business decisions, so who knows. I liked Control so wouldn’t mind seeing Control 2 on Steam.

These guys must be spread thinner than butter on toast. They're currently making Max Payne remakes and this and probably something Alan Wake related as well 😲

Annapurna's is currently my fav publisher so I love that they'll partner with Remedy to fund (and publish?) Control 2.

The TV and Movie stuff is also dope. I think a Control TV series that uses the 'monster of the week' episode format but for objects of power could do well.

Sam Lake is the coolest dude in the industry, and these publishers can't say no when that guy turns on the charm.
He probably sealed the deal in a sauna.

Looks like Annapurna is working on a film adaptation of Stray as well.

It would be fantastic to see the terms behind this partnership. Obviously they get adjacent media rights, but I wonder what drew them into this deal. If Epic couldn't make money on Control or Alan Wake 2 (they are not perfect by any means), what does Annapurna think they can bring to the table that will drive more revenue?

**update** I didn't realize taht Wake 2 wasn't out on steam yet. Maybe part of the current deal is getting some of that cash when it rolls in.

What exclusive dead platform is Control 2 releasing on?

Annapurna sees potential in these IPs so far as TV & Film and co-funding Control 2 is a sure fire way to ensure they get those rights. Epic's publishing arm is quite unique in its offering, their partners retain the IP, Epic covers 100% of the development costs and once the game starts turning a profit the devs earn 50% of those profits. I'm not sure if we'll see Alan Wake 2 on Steam, but if we do, Epic will be making money off its sales. Epic had nothing to do with Control btw.

Control was a timed release on the Epic Game store for PC...right? I assume they provided something to get that.

I'm hyped for Control 2. I hope we get to explore a bunch of different dimensions. I dont want the game to take place mostly in the World Tree(Oldest House) like the first.

These are the issues GAF had with the game: EGS exclusive, no physical edition on release, and they didn't like the secondary main character + a few lines she said.

My own issue with the game is that I'm a cheap/patient gamer and I'm not paying 60-70 dollars for 99% of my experiences, so I'll gladly buy, play, and discuss AW2 in 2-4 years.
