Another Xbox 360 pic?

I much prefer the whiter one in the side shot than the bluey-grey original one, though it could just be lighting making it look different.

As I said before, it's passible. I like that they haven't cluttered it up too much with controller ports etc (though the memory ports still jar), Is the little black port on the left an IR port or a controller port?

No. This is the finalised design.
That's it, the end. These is no more, except controller snaps. They might crop up somewhere soon, as might pics of the rear. ;-)

well there certainly seems to be a discrepency between the colors of all the leaked pic's, as well as some design elements...

ooh the back panel, leak it folder! menage it up!

So..which one is final? The big pics we've got, or the side-on pic? I prefer the eject button in the side-on pic (though I actually think the materials between it and the other pics are the same..they're just reflecting different light so the colour looks different, methinks..)

Also, notice how the wireless controller button matches the button the controllers themselves for turning on and off - it has the whole "ring of light" thing going on etc. etc.

All I'd really like to know about the back of the machine is if it has DVI or HDMI out...can someone tell me if I'll be disappointed? ;)

You have them don't you? Please post them. :D

One's a photograph, the other is from art assets given to specialist press two weeks ago.
You also should remember that Allard has mentioned removable fascias several times, so I think we may see various colours emerging. The silver is probably the vanilla version.
As for the different eject button, I have no idea right now. Again, this points to different hardware iterations though it's Saturday morning here and no one in the know is online, other that the person who confirmed it was genuine.

menage it up!

LOL!

Well final is never final until it's in shops. I'd expect there would be the odd detail change here and there. Xbox had a couple of minor changes from the first original photos.

After seeing the new side shot now I am 99.99% sure this is the real thing, I had my doubts regarding the shape =/

Not perfect (IMHO), but at least it looks miles better than the shit-tastic first photo.

HDMI and DVI are backwards compatible and either/or are standards on HD DVD players.

Microsoft will likely opt out and make us buy an adaptor to use either/or.

They've yet to prove me otherwise (see HD AV Pack).

For some reason no console manufacturer wants us using our own cables.

I wonder if the Microsoft logo will appear on it before it hits the shelves? I hope it doesn't, to be honest.

I know several mags who've had images since the brief in Redmond last week.
Generic marketing shots first, then assets. The large image is from the assets disc.
The asset dis we were going to run on Monday or Tuesday all going to plan.
Folder am cry. Folder's boss am rage! :(

Not crazy about the over fussy design....big question is...what is the slot of the right for? Thy mythical Xpod?

Still, the Daleks approve of this new Grill look.

"EXXCEEELLLEENNTT!...PLAYSTATION 3 MUST BE ANNNHILLATTEED!"

eh, its not ugly but then, it doesn't exactly exude the pricy/fancy/entertainment hub look you'd think the 20-30ish male audience they are aiming for would cherish. I sure as hell wouldn't put that blob of molded plastic anywhere near my entertainment center. Here’s hoping sony will deliver a pspish ps3 design screaming high tech. :) I will most def still get the x360 n hide it behind the tv or something. ;p

I doubt it, I think it might have something to do with the snap-on fascias..maybe it's a release or something for the front of the system.

Oh, and one other thing: I do hope the HD is larger than 40GB for $100. Think twice that.

is it me or is there a penis in there? :lol

Phallus makes the world go round :D

edit - damnit, avater keeps getting stretched - why does it insist on resizing to a width of 90 if the width of the pic is already less than that?

edit 2 - fixed, hurrah

if the cdtray is grey then its not too bad.

the thing is still pretty big though.

and where are you guys seeing this hard drive?

The width of the box is not very big, whatever about depth.

HD:

xbox360_side.jpg

The LCD display reads 40GB.

Judging by that pic, it doesn't look too big at all. I think it's quite a small box, actually. Take two CD cases, but them side by side (use the longest side), and I think that's about as wide as the front is.

ahh i see it now.

maybe this is the other version? or was it ever confirmed that there would be an hdless and hd versions of the new xbox?

nah.. it looks pretty compact actually.

i give this design a.. B! what about you sp0rsk?

Kotaku, who btw were spot-on about X360, the design - everything - thusfar (they basically described what we're seeing here months ago in quite a lot of detail), says there's a HD and HD-less version. The HD version is just the HD-less version with the HD add-on. The add-on snaps into the side of the box (or top, if you have it standing vertically). You can see the release for it in that pic.

Note the other difference, though - the eject button is different.

I'm thinking the side-on pic (above) which I think was from ourcolony, is from an earlier prototype, and the hi-res pics are the final design that was distributed among some press, which might account for the difference in eject buttons (I couldn't imagine any reason why the eject button would be any different on the HD version). So it's possible the HD-addon will look different in the final version too, but I'd say the above is reasonably close.

that thing on the side of the HD surely doesn't look like an LCD display, the text is too fine and curvy to be an LCD or dot matrix font.

It's most likely juste a label.

Wich IMO point to the availability of more than 1 HD option, with each of them identified by their capacity: 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, etc...

the grey design is a C

the whitish one with the chrome tray is an F-

I dont see how you could say this is compact, well maybe it is compared to the original xbox?

edit: yeah, it definitely doesnt look like an lcd.

That's the real deal.

I think the front, top and bottom plates are removable, so you can customize it with whatever color you like. The button next to the memory slot 2 is to unlatch the plates.

you are very hard to please. you must have an extremely heightened sense of aesthetics to be so easily offended. :)

Exactly what I was thinking.

Good to have options for different sizes of HD.

HDD will be an optional Addon, that was always the talk. Seems to fit with what we've seen. 40gig suggest 2 things, firstly that there's different size drives, secondly that they are HDDs not flash drives. Good news on both fronts.

Just noticed actually, on this shot:

e8b4_147.jpg

The tab at the front is out, on the shot with the HDD:

xbox360_side.jpg

It's in. Maybe that button is the release for the silver face cover, then you put the hard drive into there, and it comes with the black 40gig facia with it.

Im still not sure on the design, size wise its perfect, looks smaller than the PS2 (That was probably the rationale behind making it concave, to make it look thin). It seems really cluttered with everything up one end of the device. At least the colour scheme is nicer in the real shot.

By the way, Folder's 'Menage a millions' story was also totally legit. I know the lady who setup the market research thing that his source got invited to :D

Oh the shame.

kudos to MS. the front elevation ain't that attractive but I'm liking the current TDKish looking Xbox 360. The grey gun metal (brushed) look is fairly nice looking.. colour me impressed. maybe there's something to MS domination next gen after all.

Now about that controller. .. . ..

Are you talking about width or depth, or both? I think you're being deceived by the lack of context with the photos. Look at your PC dvd drive. Multiply that by 2 across the width. That's roughly how wide the X360 is (maybe even a little less). It's not as wide as the original PS2 for example..it's about the same size, width-wise, as the smaller "block" under the PS2. Depth is harder to judge.

vertical depth im using my cd tray as a basis of measurement

edit: i just noticed it looks like that whole side panel comes off.

<edit: sorry, 10 minutes after putting this image up, I get a stupid photobucket warning about bandwidth. i've left my other comparison pic up, which is a few posts down. oh, and if anyone's linking to the pic, please rehost! and if anyone knows of a better picture hosting service than photobucket, please tell me! thanks>

I think the little button isn't there at all anymore.

I think that rather than sticking the HD in the silver slot, you press the little button and the whole side comes off up to and including the little button, to then be replaced by the HD wich comes with it's own side panel, and who doesn't need the little button to lock it in since the tension on the connectors between it and the main board would keep it in place.

just look at the access light, how would it get there if you only stuck the HD in the silver slot? the entire side needs to come off to be replaced with a side that has the access light on it's corner.

If you look at both images, the slim one and the HDD one i think it shows Microsofts "2 systems at launch", i mean the slim looks very basic, but the other shot (with the HDD) looks far advanced (and imo better looking). But are these the finalised colours? as these could be just prototypes of the final design but without the extra coat of paint or whatever it has?
