The notion about the hard drive pic with a digital display really gets me geeked. I think the design is very well done, and quite sexy when it is vertical.
Besides, I don't buy consoles based on what they look like. If that was true I never would have owned an N64.

I love the system design, but that new Xbox font has got to go. It looks ridiculously plain and uninspired. I can see MS was trying to go for a new sophisticated looking font, but it's way too boring. I wonder what the actual 360 logo is? Surely it's more than just "Xbox 360" written out.

Thinks his PR is better than yours.
For all the people who think it's big, take a look at your DVD drives in your computer. Place two of them side by side and that's basically the width of the Xbox 360. It's also maybe an inch thicker in height. It's damn small compared to the behemoth of Xbox.

thats no observation. The first pic is obviously a concept type design/render, while the 2nd looks like a photo of the ACTUAL hardware, so it would make sense that some of the buttons, colors, and fonts would be place holders in the 1st pic (look at the font fof the memory card slot) What sense would it make to change those things in a 'less expensive/HD less' version?

I really like the pic with the HDD on it, but that's probably because I think it is lit up better (more natural). The color of the original pic screams cheap, along with that huge ass power button. About the digital display for the HDD so you can take it with you...doubt that.
Overall, I think when more pics come out it will look a lot better, but I think the huge power button needs to be toned down. It goes against the type of vibe the rest of the design is putting off.

Also, in one there's "Memory" (card) and the other "memory". Seems fake... and it's very fugly too.

Does anyone have pics of the supposed white one? Everytime I try to see it, I get 'bandwidth exceeded', or 'page cannot be displayed'
Interestingly enought that side pic doesn't venture far enought to the right so that we can actually see the power button.
But I guess in reality we all saw the power button a while ago on ourcolony's first page

The side pic is obviously a bit more polished, more finished design. The memory card font looks nicer for example, and the side actually looks nicer than the front, which still just looks goofy in comparision. Interestingly enough, the side does seem reminiscent of G5 design, but I think making it using that silverish plastic might just make it look like a cheap knock off of the mac design.
The power button looks weird but xbox 360 looks pretty much identical to the logo show in the mtv commercial, so it's not fake.

I like the look of that angled pic. Like I said, I'll wait until the official unveiling to form a final opinion, but it's already looking better in that other pic. MS is doing a good job with the marketing as far as the hardcore fans are concerned. They've building a lot of buzz going into E3. Is this reverberating through the casual community too? PEACE.

This would explain why there's no information inscribed on the metal plate--it's just a cover/spacer. meanwhile, for those who DO have the harddrive:
it is also possible that that is not an engraving of 40gb, but possibly (?) a digital display of how much free space is left. That would certainly lend to it being a portable unit of some kind (IE, and I'm going out on a limb here, if it WERE a digital display, when not connected to the X360, it could display, oh, song/mp3 information? )

I just noticed that the size of the mesh is different from the 2 real pics...
Xenon = approximately 3.26 liters in volume (a little less due to concave design)
Xbox = approx 6.29 liters in volume
for reference:
PStwo = .97 litres...
PS2 = 4.17 litres
Someone did the math to find the dimensions... that would put Xenon at about half size if it was the real deal.
So that makes it 3/4 the size of PS2... nice!
