I think that movie could easily been a success. I would argue a Black Widow solo movie likely would have out-grossed Ant-Man 1 I think honestly.

A Black Widow movie as spy film in the vein of a MCU version of a James Bond flick with Black Widow in the Bond role would have done fantastic. The movie all but writes itself.

Widow vs. Red Guardian would be a rad movie.

Hawkeye needs his Netflix series

The problem with that would be Scarlett J's price (she never signed the standard Marvel contract) for the notoriously cheap Ike (pre Feige power play) and now her schedule (Ghost in the Shell is already lined up). Now, she's basically booked through 2016 for filming. So you're looking at 2020 at this point before you could have a solo Black Widow movie.

This assumes her and Cap even survive Civil War. Neither of these are a given.

Ike's the guy who tried to kick Robert Downey Jr out of Captain America 3 because he didn't want to pay him. Can't imagine he'd pay for Scarlett's going rate as an action heroine.

It could have been fantastic. With the winter soldier as her sidekick.

That's a great idea.

So to recap...

Ant-Man and the Wasp

That's a great "Bye, bitch" gif, saving it.

You should, its a lot of fun and Hope van Dyne is one of the coolest Marvel movie ladies, second only to the Lady Sif.

You mean third.

Peggy still the MCU QUEEN.

Nice! I'm glad Ant-Man was enough of a success to get a sequel. It was a really fun movie.

Phase 3 is going to be INSANE, man.

Ant Man was an okay movie with some brief flashes of inspiration. It'll be interesting to see if they can improve it or if the quality was just vestiges of Wright's work.

And yes Peggy is MCU's best girl.

HOLY FUCK that was unexpected!!

Fantastic surprise news though. Ant-Man was wonderful. I was hoping for a sequel but wasn't particularly optimistic.

Well serve me up a fat fuckin plate of crow then.

Wow.

Haha, I was wondering if you'd post something like that.

Didn't Marvel want to beat Wonder Woman out of the gate initially?

Isn't that just fanboy conjecture though? Doesn't seem like something Marvel would ever come out and say outright. It doesn't really matter outside of the pointless DC vs Marvel fan war anyway.

Like so many, I was rather surprised to hear this news. I can see now why they elected not to have Hope suit up as Wasp in Civil War.

Never watched the original since all my hype deflated the second Edgar Wright left. I feel like I would just sit there thinking about what could've been.

Would ya'll recommend it if it hits Netflix or something?

With that mindset, don't even botter.

Fair enough. Tough to put the Wright connection out of mind considering that he wrote/directed my favorite comedies of the past decade.

Maybe I'll give the sequel a shot if it garners praise.

It's one of the best MCU movies.

I expected it to be good, and I was still a little surprised.

Absolutely!

Look, nobody loves Edgar Wright movies as much as I do except Edgar Wright's mother and Simon Pegg, and I was just as upset as anyone that he left.

... But Ant-Man is absolutely worth watching. It's a fun movie that does its own thing, is very creative and unique, has lots of great moments and impressively original fight scenes, had my whole theater laughing from start to finish, while still having just enough charm, heart, and intelligence to be a stand-alone great movie in its own right.

It's not Wright's film, but I've come to terms with that. It's a great film on its own and I absolutely look forward to a sequel.

Definitely give it a shot at the very least. As for me? I'm snatching it up on Blu-Ray the day it drops.

Yea, just make sure you post about it in every Ant-Man thread.

honestly, it's a fun movie

So it's a buddy hero film (Winter Soldier kinda counts) and likely to involve Janet.

BUT...

This might be the best time to put him in...

This year especially has proven that you can release a movie people want to see in February and have it do well (50 Shades and Kingsman did very well this February). If Deadpool is good and does well next year, the point will be proven even more so. I think we're getting to a point where, outside of January, studios might finally be realizing that it might be more important to schedule your film away from competition (especially competition that's already more established) than to get it into theaters during the summer (when the most people go to the movies).
