Peyton Reed will be at the comic store I used to frequent signing free posters. Also there is a giveaway for tickets to tomorrow's London premiere. I'll be in the area today, I wonder if I should head down and try my luck.
So I went to this and got a nice little poster signed. Had a few words with Peyton Reed. Really nice and enthusiastic guy.

Didn't manage to win the tickets, but oh well.

Posted this in the review thread, but my director went to the premiere

Quick review: Ant-Man is WAY cool. Ocean's Eleven with super-heroes. And yes, I do mean the plural. I expected it to exist in its own bubble with no more than lip service to the rest of the Marvel universe, but the first connection comes up immediately and it gets even better from there. And DO NOT MISS the post-credits scene.

Wakanda is in north Africa.

middle of the continent for MCU, maybe?

Win some/lose some. Hopefully Reed pulls this off.
I've been having a stroke of bad luck with these premiere tickets. Missed three competitions in the last two days. Missed the signing one today (apparently the organiser didn't organise the competition at all) and missed another one just an hour ago. Damn.

Throw me a bone, Marvel. This could help my career somehow, haha.

I think this will be the first Marvel film I skip, I'm not feeling it.

Between the casting of Paul Rudd, terrible trailer and being burned out on comic book movies altogether, this just looks like a big no thank you. Marvel peaked with Winter Soldier tbh (which was my movie of the year 2014).

First it was Marvel peaked with Iron Man, Now they peaked with the winter soldier, keep moving those goalposts there buddy

But that's none of my business.

Once upon a time, Guardians of the Galaxy was projected to make $65 million on its Opening Weekend. While it's good to keep expectations low, there's a decent chance that Ant-Man could outperform its projected box office opening if the reviews are positive.

Oh absolutely. I'm just wondering what people think constitutes a success for this project.

To me somewhere between the phase 1 films but below GOTG and Winter Soldier seems like a very good return

My thoughts as stolen from my Facebook

As always shall try to keep it spoiler-free, but just back from an Ant-Man screening.
Long story short, really enjoyable film that I recommend.
It’s also one of the most refreshing Marvel film in some time. Instead of going bigger, and pardon the pun, they go smaller and more intimate.
At the heart of the movie is the concept of “legacy,” whether that means from father to daughter, from mentor to mentee, and of course the Ant-man identity. And it works. Mostly because you believe all the characters and their motivations
The tasks don’t get… world-ending, but they do ramp up by the end
And one of the most fun climaxes in recent Marvel movies. I’m just sad the the trailers/commercials kind of ruined some of the best bits
Also for those who care, two post-credits stringers
First is more for Ant-Man, the second is more for the MCU
And I both liked and hated it, but won’t go into specifics

Anyhow, go see it when it comes out next week!

do you mean you like the first Ant-Man stinger and hate the second MCU stinger? or does the love and hate apply to both stinger?

I both loved and hated the second stinger if what it implies is true...

MAJOR spoilers

They wrap up the Winter Soldier hunt in the post-credit. Cap and Sam find him... was kind of sad that's how the story well unfolded

There is a scene in that preview that made my jaw drop and was basically everything I've been dreaming of seeing in a live action Ant-Man.

Got back from a screening with my best friend, and we both really enjoyed the hell out of it and i highly recommend it. So much fun! This movie goes one step backwards from the past few MCU movies and, pardon the terrible pun, instead of going bigger and having "oh no we have to save the world" and giant things crashing in the 3rd act and stuff, it goes for a more smaller, more personal, and intimate stakes that are at risk, and it feels, very satisfying actually, and just a nice change of pace. The story is fast-paced, every scene always gets to the point and then transitions to the next, but it never feels rushed or anything, there's just never a dull moment in the film. Alot more Edgar Wrightness feels leftover than you'd expect, mostly in the incredibly entertaining action sequences, and aspects of the script including specific gags. All the actors are on point and both the leads and the supporting characters are great. Out of the entire MCU i think this has my favorite 3rd act, again, just because of how "small-scale" it is, while at the same time being really huge in it's own right which makes for some awesome and ridiculous moments happening one after another, it's just a blast and me and my friend and the rest of the audience were cheering and laughing so hard during these scenes. OH, and if you're as big a Marvel fan as me you'll just love the countless references and ties to the rest of the MCU that are amazing and unexpected and you don't want to get them spoiled, do not miss the credits scenes either, there's 2, and they're both incredible. All in all, another fantastic addition to the MCU, and what a nice little dessert it is after the main course that was Ultron, and ending Phase 2 and preparing you for the insaneness that will be Phase 3.

Put this in the spoiler thread, but figured I'd put this here too.

If you haven't done so, but are looking to have some familiarity with Ant-Man and Scott Lang beforehand, I highly recommend reading the recent comic by Nick Spencer.

Very unlikely to spoil anything for the movie as it seems to be doing its own thing with its characters like Darren Cross etc. But yeah, it's funny as hell.

love this run.
the father-daughter story-line is well done

What did they say on the schmoes review ?

Edit: Twitter says embargo is at 2pm pst

CLiff notes..since its gone now..

Basically they said they loved it, Really funny (But not that forced funny) but also great action sequences. They didn't really have much to nitpick about it. Said they felt it was right up there with Mad Max as the best movie of the summer. They said it all ties in together nicely..That it felt connected to the larger MCU, without MCU mentions being forced into it. One guy says this is favorite solo movie since Iron man (I think?) The other guy says this is up there with GOTG/TWS in regards to how much he liked it.
