It was okay.

Really shallow and simple though. Even for a marvel movie, especially that villain. Knew he was it as soon as I eaw his bald head. Such a 2d villain with such a 2d plan.

went there expecting some Iron Man 1 vibes, I got the vibes and more. Great, actual fun for a superhero movie. i want more of the microscopic world!

This was solid, but not anything great. Some fun action, I like the effects for when he's small, and his friends are the best part of the movie. The middle act, when he's training felt very formulaic and dragged a lot for me, the
Falcon
scene was awful and out-of-place. Felt like it was inserted after the fact. The first and third acts were pretty fun. I think Marvel's desire to have everything be light and fun really hurt this film's climax though. Felt like they were pulling their punches.
His daughter is being held up by a vengeful murderer, and it's never really played as shocking as it could be. I'm not saying it needs to be as grim as the final scene of The Dark Knight, but they could've gone further to actually make me feel something during the finale.

Bah, everyone has backed out and this week and weekend are really busy. Will probably go it alone tonight to see this.

edit: 3d, 2d? I usually go w/ 2d.

People acting like the movie would be better if it wasted our time with a "descent into madness" for cross are lol.

I enjoyed cross because he was entertaining whenever he was on screen by virtue of being a ridiculous murdering asshole. His actor obviously had fun with the character. He was a good villain for a more comedy focused movie like this, Guardians for example needed this style of antagonist.

3D is worth it for this one IMO. It's a solid conversion and enhanced the shrinking scenes and all the ants.

Yep this isn't the Yellowjacket show, it's Ant-Man & Wasp's origin story. Maybe if they cut a lot of Hank & Hope's story they could have done more with Cross but I didn't want that. Having those two be such a major part of the story was what made the movie so endearing - it was a well done bit of family drama that tied to the theme of fathers and daughters, something we didn't have in the MCU before Ant-Man. People who would have preferred more time spent with Cross instead, not sure what they were looking for.

Maybe if there's a Marvel movie that decides it doesn't want to do much with the main characters, they can focus more on the villain.

Saw it last night. It was great!
Action, bits of comedy, corey stoll (peter russo from house of cards), this movie has everything.

i recommended it to my co-workers.

I thought Cross had a lot more depth than people are giving him credit.
They describe him as never being the most mentally sound individual which is a bit of a cop out but they gave him some pretty good motivation for his actions. The guy is an asshole but he's primarily driven by his sense of abandonment and rejection by his former mentor and idol. He resents Pym so much, I felt Stoll's over the top performance suited the character perfectly.

Is he a groundbreaking villain? Nah, not really, but he's easily understandable, well acted, with a solid back story and motivation. I do wish they would have shown how the particle research was affecting his brain chemistry or something. After he zaps the guy in the bathroom, it felt like he was supposed to say something to himself in the mirror. A moment of self reflection or doubt would have been nice right there.

Also, the way Cross and Lang are set up as parallels for different aspects of Pym was fantastic and a nice subtle nod to the character's history of bipolar disorder. Cross and Lang are two sides of the same coin known as Hank Pym.

Did we already post rankings?

Mine post Ant Man is:

The Avengers
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
Iron Man 2
Ant Man
------
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man
The Avengers 2
Thor
The Incredible Hulk
------
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor 2
-------
-------

Iron Man 3

Do we have any BO numbers yet?

second worst MCU movie start, still place 1 for the last weekend.

Just seen it, loved it :D

2 questions:

1)
"Yes." What?

What was that last bit about? Scott's friend speaks so weird I had no idea what the Yes was meant for?

2)
"The particles are altering your brain chemistry!"

When was this established??

I'm kind of amazed that Paul Rudd is 46.

Re: the movie, unfortunately Marvel just couldn't get the villain down again. I hated the
"The Pym Particles are making you crazy!"
excuse. Like, why couldn't he just be a dick?

It was all a lengthy way of saying that Falcon was looking to get in touch with Ant-Man

And Pym says earlier in the movie that without the protection of the suit, exposure to Cross' bio-formula can alter the chemistry of the brain, its one of the reasons he was trying to stop it, it wasn't safe

I like Iron Man 2 a lot

But 3 is way better

Liked Ant-Man more than any of the IM movies but I'm biased, always liked the character more. Ant-Man is easily in my MCU top 5.

What's wrong with Iron Man 2?
Whiplash is awful, not nearly enough Justin Hammer (plus the fact that the movie is so poorly regarded that he has basically disappeared from the MCU). That's just a start.

On a side note, a small thing that super annoys me about this movie is that in the F1 scene, the cars keep racing around the track forever even after Whiplash starts whipping the ship out of Stark's car. Like they don't have radios or something? Why would they keep racing at top speed?

Yeah even ignoring radios, a caution flag would immediately go up in a real race.

But it's not F1, it's the "World Grand Prix" ;)

and Iron Man 3 is great and you are all cretins

I took my seven year old.

As before mentioned there is one....gruesome death that is disturbing but it's not gory or anything.

There are some words, like "shit", "Bitch".

There's one part where a character talks about the first time he touched boobs that made me go O___O

There's a lot of pistols being fired, and two scenes with pistols aimed and held at someone's head.

The main character is also breaking into someone's place to steal something-if that might be a concern.

I was wondering what a parent's view of the movie would be. I'm not one, but I know how many children see these movies (they are designed for all ages after all) and I definitely raised an eyebrow at the line:
"I don't rob, I burgle. I'm a cat burglar."
"You mean you're a pussy?"

Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Had fun all around, in spite of few plot points that I felt were rushed. I feel I enjoyed it more than Age of Ultron, and definitely more than Iron Man 3, and Thor The Dark World (as far as Phase 2 movies go).

Now the long wait for Civil War.
