The National Center on Sexual Exploitation recently announced the 2015 Dirty Dozen List.

What is this list and why is it significant, you’re probably asking?

The Dirty Dozen is a who’s who compilation of leading contributors to sexual exploitation in America. The 2015 list highlights offenders and gives an explanation of how each contributes to sexual exploitation. The list then offers actions that the public can take to persuade the ‘Dirty Dozen’ to change their policies and practices.

This is a subset
Verizon – Verizon profits from sexual exploitation by pushing it into homes through multiple ways, including pay-per-view movies on their FIOS TV, as an Internet Service Provider and as a wireless carrier. They’ve even defended child themed porn as a benefit to their consumers.

Fifty Shades of Grey– This bestselling book and film glamorizes and normalizes violence against women through sexual violence, abuse of power, female inequality, and coercion.

Backpage.com – Backpage.com is the leading U.S. website for prostitution advertising, generating nearly 80 percent of all the online prostitution advertising revenue. Law enforcement officials say trafficked children and women are sold on Backpage daily and the site is even actively opposing laws that make it a felony to advertise sexual services of children.

Hilton Hotels – This top hotel chain provides hardcore pornography movie choices with themes that include: children, incest, rape, sexual slavery, and extreme violence. Other popular hotel chains, such as Marriott and Omni, have publicly refused to profit off of this “in-room entertainment”, so it would not be difficult at all for Hilton to do the same.

American Library Association – For years, ALA has encouraged public libraries to keep all computers unfiltered, thus allowing any and all patrons, which includes children, to be able to access porn. As a result, child sexual abuse, sexual assault, exhibitionism, stalking and other lewd behavior takes place in libraries across the country.

American Apparel – American Apparel’s advertising strategy since the get-go has been defined by regularly featuring almost-nude and provocatively posed young girls with a visual emphasis on breasts and buttocks.

Sex Week – University campuses are overwhelmed with reports of rape and sexual violence, yet many of these schools also welcome “Sex Week” on their campus, celebrations where pornography, violent sexual practices and casual hooking-up is openly advertised and encouraged.

I'm gonna need to see the receipts regarding the Verizon listing.

Are they describing actions like not participating in some Prenda-style bulk discovery scheme and them being against SOPA style requests to take down content?

I was nodding along sort of agreeing with the list, then the Library association, American Apparel, and Sex Week entries made me realize these people are puritans arguing against sex, period.

Yes. This is pathetic moralist nonsense.

It is a missed opportunity to shine a light on those who actually do profit from abuse and exploitation.

Do they even stock porn?

Is that true about Hilton Hotels? Jesus.

I don't see what the problem would be as long as they're not providing actual child porn (which would be fucking absurd if true). Let people massively overpay for their fetish porn if they want.

I'm sorry, Hilton hotels shows sex films with themes that include children?

I can see the case for American Apparel but some of the other choices were just weird.

doesn't seem all that different from regular porn titles frankly...

OOOO NO. Sex happens. What will we ever do?!?!?!

What's bad about the Hilton Hotel?

Besides "children" all the rest seem like pretty normal porn categories. And since the source seems pretty puritanical I'm assuming "children"=18-19 teens.

It was "children" that took me aback.

Yeah, because libraries are a den of sex crimes and lewd behavior. Not saying it won't happen, but it's not as rampant as they would claim.

So they have HBO and allow people to watch Game of Thrones?

I work in a library with filtering software and we still we very very frequently get patrons (it's almost daily sometimes more often) that look at hard porn on library computers.

That seems no different than any other provider of porn. I assume by "children" they mean teenagers.
Are US-americans really refers to 18+ teenagers as children? Unless of course their own children, but I don't think the Hotel is going out of their way to stock porn of everyone of their guests own adult children.

I think if the original article (or the OP) had included the full list (which lists the Justice Department, Facebook, and Cosmo, which they demand be sold as a black-wrapped porno mag), no one would have taken this seriously.

Edit: I really, really doubt you can order child porn on any US PPV service, Hilton or otherwise.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
The National Center on Sexual Exploitation is a rebranded anti-porn group IIRC.

EDIT - This is them.

Okay, I thought this seemed iffy.

No, adult teenagers are not referred to as children, and wouldn't even be called kids in this context. But it's like those people that call young adult soldiers children during war time, whoever wrote this wants to bring up feelings of protectiveness in whoever their target audience is to stir up outrage over something that's not outrageous.

So they are claiming as a result of having an unfiltered internet connection, like most of the free world, child sexual abuse is occurring in these libraries? Seems like a stretch, although there may be cases since they are public computers.

Sure but looking at porn isn't the same as committing any of the crimes mentioned in the list. Even crazier, the article implies that these crimes are being CAUSED simply by having fully functional computers present. They're literally equating internet access with stalking and child abuse.

This is a thread that could used a title change.

OP:

Were you aware of the Morality in Media ties or are you just taking the piss with this?

Just seen the article and reposted it.

Edit just re-read both the article and the source list where are you getting the morality in media connection?

Well, that is a bullshit list.

The only entries that belong of those shown in OP (I'm not giving them a click) are backpage and (arguably) American Apparel.

If I was some of these companies I would open a lawsuit against these people. What ridiculous accusations.

Heh.

Remind me of the last time I stayed at Best Western (could be some other chain) early this year, the latest in Japanese porn on demand. All I could think was, "I totally could just torrent this."
