Any chance at all of a new BattleToads or Killer Instinct??

I really hope Rare do updates to these games....especially BattleToads

Anyone ever play the arcade version of BattleToads??

We did a review of the arcade game @ GameFan years ago....I saw the whole game from start to finish (I believe Andrew and Kei were playing co-op while Dave captured screens)

Pure Brilliance IMO

Battletoads-I hope not.

Killer instinct-retool/fix everything that was flawed with the gameplay (i.e., everything except the combos) and tone down the Japanesu character designs and it'll be a winner again

Battletoads - now with wartmapping! I'd like to see a new Battletoads; there hasn't been a really good beat-em-up since Turtles in Time, IMO.

If you think the turbo tunnel is hard, you should try some of the later levels.

Anyway, I'd love to see a new Battletoads as long as it remained in 2D.

I beat Battletoads. :-X

The third level is nothing (it's simple memorization, really) compared to what lies beyond.

On topic, I think that the Conker / Killer Instinct picture bodes well for a KI sequel in the future.

Hah. I could beat the entire game using one continue in my NES days. Practice, practice, practice.

Maybe it's time I hooked up the old NES one day and give it another go-round. :)

Who currently owns the rights to KI?

They should just remake the original Battletoads with a non-impossible third level.

:lol It tooks me almost two years to beat that level...I got the game at release in '91, and only got to see beyond it with a Game Genie. (Even with codes for infinite lives at the last level, we STILL never beat the game...it was near-impossible)

Then in '93 I beat the third level on my own...couldn't believe. Major nerd mark out moment there.

Short lived victory, however, since I ran out of lives/continues right at the beginning of the next level. :P IIRC there was also a level warp on the third stage that took you further into the game. I remember the level warp from the first stage but don't remember where it took you.

IMO Battletoads In Battlemaniacs is the best BT game. The original was also good, just too damn hard, and all the other BT games sucked. I was never impressed with the arcade version.

None of the BT games hold a candle to the two TMNT arcade games though.

I think the level after the Bike level is an ICE LEVEL. :lol Rare is so evil.

I liked all the Battletoads games... the GB one was cool for the time & even BT vs. DD was filled w/ lots of cool gameplay.

HAHAHA, you suck! The 3rd level is NOTHING compared to the Clinger Winger level(I think that was the name). Now that's a bitch.

I'd love a new Battletoads, a remake even. But nothing like Battlemaniacs please, that was a piece of shit.

I actually like the Battletoads/Double Dragon spin-off that was made a few years later. I remember I bought it back in 1993, and initially I hated it. But many years later I went back to it and thought it was great. It's funny how much better some older games can get with age.

Was that another vehicle level? I can't remember.

I'm amazed you guys got that far into BT...it was just so damn hard! :) I could get far in other Rare games too, but never BT. I remember getting to the last stage in Snake Rattle N' Roll without warping felt like a real accomplishment. :)

But I can definitely see you guys doing that well. My claim to fame years ago was that I beat Landstalker on the Genesis, doing all the optional puzzles without the use of a walkthrough. People used to say that game was almost impossible too, but I never had a problem with it.

I've never beaten the third level, but then I never owned the game or played it very much. It is DAMN HARD though. Anyone who can beat it has my game skill respect.

I love(d) Snake Rattle & Roll. I want a DS version. Any game with evil toilet seats is good in my book.

The arcade game is great. I bought it a few years ago without knowing anything about it, only the NES version. So much more toilet humor then the NES games. Grabbing enemies by the testicles and then punching their groin..great stuff. :lol

Almost every stage in Battletoads is just an exercise in rote memorization and timing. I never could figure out why so many people had trouble with the Turbo Tunnel; you get advance warning of where the obstacles are going to appear except for the very end, and that was just up-down-up-down.

Maybe this will help :)

I got through Battletoads and Battlemaniacs, but I could never beat the GameBoy one. I always got stuck on the stage where you are running through a twisting tunnel being chased by a huge brain/boulder thing. I'm not sure if I'd like to see another one though, at least not in the classic sense. There is so little margin for error in Battletoads games that the only way to beat them is to practice until you can play each stage perfectly, and I don't have the time or patience to do that anymore.

The next speeder level after Level 3 doesn't have the delay that you get in that one. Now THAT's hard.

That GB level in Battletoads seemed impossible at first, but like all such things, once you beat it the first time, it was simple to do every other time.

Scribes has hinted at both Killer Instinct and Battletoads heading to GBA (even going so far as saying the handheld team wants to do them). I think DS would be more likely at this point though.

The zipline levels in Battletoads would just rule on the DS...

I agree. The 3rd level wasn't that bad once you learned the pattern. The levels that screwed me up were the water level (damn those ducks!) and that level where you were hanging off the back of that unicycle thing (was that the Clinger Winger level?). In fact I never did beat that level... that stupid thing chasing you always got me. I must of been doing something wrong...

Oh yeah... I want a new Battletoads game too! And a new KI, a new Conker, a new PD! God I hope Rare has been putting these last few years to good use...

We'll Id want a new KI LIKE THE OLD KI IE with pre-rendered sprites I dont want a 3D KI

I HATE LOATHE DESPISE CAN NOT STAND 3D Fighters, don't know what it is but I have not played one that I've managed to enjoy yet so if they went full on 3D with KI it would kill the series for me

You're just not good enough, then. If you beat it you get a guy who comes to your door and enlists you in an intergalatic army! You get to save the world, and get the babe!

Thanks for sharing

And the old KIs might as well have been 3D, considering you had 3D arenas (sort of) and some rudimentary 3D gameplay aspects

rudimentary 3d Gameplay aspects are not the same as full on 3d gameplay

and I didn't know we could only share our opinions in threads if they agreed with everyone else

I would totaly love a DS version of BattleToads in the vain of Viewtiful Joe. As for a console version i just dont think that you could really get very deep into a story to make it worth while. But i would accept either. And yes ziplines would be awsome with the ds. Would be cool if you could make your own weapons from your hand by drawing what the hands morph into. That shouldnt be too hard to do i think. But yeah a new battletoads is needed and i need it now.

I always had problems with ath level in battletoads where you were on a uniscycle thing and had a big ass ball chasing you.

I think the farthest I've ever made it was the race to diffuse the bomb down to the bottom of the tower. Man, that game was torture... I also played around a bit with it on Game Genie and played the final level, never beat it even WITH the Game Genie :P I remember being amazed at the game's graphics way back in the day...

you guys didn't like Battlemaniacs? My only beef with it was that it was too short. The challenge level wasn't as hard as the Nes Battletoads, thank god. I beat the nes version once, and I will never, ever try to do it again.

I was playing 2 player battletoads last night on my NES over a few beers with my mate, we renamed zitz he is now officially known as Jizz.

But yeah a new battletoads game would rock.

I have a feeling Battletoads has gone the way of the Noid in terms of relevance in games.

"Avoid the Noid! He'll steal your pizza!" :p

Seriously, that third level is all memorization. If there are contingents of people out there who can memorize 10 footer DDR songs backwards, then surely a good deal of you can join the rest of us who have seen beyond the speeder bike level.

Honestly, I cursed more at the zipline levels than anything else. Those damned birds caught me off guard at least once or twice every time. :lol

If Rare were going to revive Battletoads or Killer Instinct, they'd have done so by now. I mean, seriously, look at what they've focused their energy on since the Microsoft buy -- Conker and Kameo. Bleah. (Even though Conker rules for killing those f-ing tediz)

What in the world is japanese about KI's character design? They have the human torch, generic ninja's, werewolves,a native american warrior with a mohawk, and huge breasted women in Spandex.

Hahaha I expected as much!

Okay, so the third level is memorization. I guess I didn't realize that when I was ten or whatever. Now I want to play it again. Step 1 - find working NES. Step 2 - find copy of game.

I saw that post too and blanched. I have no idea what he talking about. Best I could come up with is Wild Orchid change from KI to K2. Then I would agree that change stunk.
