Any gaffers going to gamescom?

Yeah, I'll be there covering it (freelancer for a video game magazine).

Keulen sounds so barbaric. Köln is better.

I'm definitely going this time! Looking forward to it a lot! It's only a two hour drive for me as well which is a nice bonus.

I don't think so. I live in munich, so that'd be pretty near, but I didn't like it last year...
It was... immature...
Its Köln.
Those are Keulen:

Yap, got everything arranged and credentials are ready :D

Looking forward to it VERY MUCH this year, hands on the next gen very excited! :D

Also I'll be doing a meet up thread again for the 3rd year but hopefully this year will be the charm because last 2 times no body wanted to meet up.

Yes. It's the only opportunity to really play some games at the main stands. And even that press day is way too crowded. But I'll definitely be there on Thursday and Friday as well. I don't know about weekend though. Just too crowded.

Forgive me, for I am but a simple Belgian :P

I'm going the same day (if everything works out), also freelancer. (Belgian website)

First Gamescom as well, so I'm kinda excited :)

You'll love gamescom! Hope you'll find a nice hotel to stay. Don't forget to bring enough food and water with you. Things are expensive at Koeln Messe and it get's really hot. Fortunately more and more Publishers use air condition for their stands in the Business Area.

I much preferred the Games Convention in Leipzig to the Games Com in Köln.
Probably not attending this year, since I have to work on press day and there's no way I'm going with the unwashed masses (I'd rather wait 5mins per game than 45).

But eh, let's see. It's always fun to meet up.

Anybody up for a carpool from Berlin?

Belgian here. I'm going with some friends. I went two years ago and had a lot of fun there. Be prepared for long queues though. 6-7 hours for bf3 was nuts.

Well lekkere braadworsten daar!

Will be there wednesday and thursday, depending on work maybe even friday, will compete in the Halo FFA championships there.

Hope to get a hands on with some next gen consoles, would be even more awesome if I could get into one of these pressconferences :(

The convention floor was almost unbearable in years without all 3 platform holders attending. I would like to go but I have security concerns in a year with 2 new consoles and probably all major publishers pushing their new tent pole releases.

I don't want to be a part in the next Love Parade type fiasco.

Been to games convention and gamescom since 2002,kind of annoyed of the new layout of it. Games convention was so nice. You could play a lot of gakes without waiting for HOURS in the queue. Gamescom is simply a masturbating contest which bioth has less content and more people waiting for the shit to see it.
Stopped going to it in 2009.

Nah, sadly I won't be able to afford it this year. Denmark -> Köln + ticket + hotel is a bit out of my price range atm. :P

There just were less people there in Leipzig. North Rhine-Westphalia has the densest population in Germany, so it should not be to any surprise that a lot of people are there.

Will be there on the press/industry day on wednesday, for playing the games without hours of waiting and on tuesday for some goodie grabbing.

how do I get a press pass? can I just start a gaming blog and attend next year?

That's the basic concept, but don't you need a certain views range too?

Press pass isn't everything either, I believe you also have presentations that require an industry invitation. So you can still play most stuff, but I believe stuff like The Witcher 3 etc requires your name on their list.

I'm not sure yet, I really want to, but I'm concerned it's gonna be a mess(e lol) and not worth the money.

how's the public transportation in köln? is it easy to find? I've done some research and there are some nice, affordable b&b in the city.

I'm not press people either, so I'm thinking of just visiting friday/saturday. if any swiss people here know how to get there (or want someone to split the gas money) - let me know. :B

They made it harder this year I believe.
Nope made it easier. I have 2 press pass' without having a blog or something similiar.

Also people who expect to have no waiting queues on wednesday(press day) are absolutely wrong, there are still a hell lot of people there.

Edit: yes Zuhälter is right, never go on a saturday, except you don't want to play any game and like being shoved around in big masses

I will be there.

Good to know. Can you or GopherD tell us (or not) if Sony has plan until gamescom to keep injecting media and messes with some updates or breakings. Its almost 2 month until then and I cannot help but think if they have will keep quiet (loose some hype) or if they have some kind of strategy to keep the momentum maintain throughout without actually revealing much?

I think they made it easier this time around. Last year they excluded "all" blogs, which brought up a shitstorm in the german blogosphere.

So, many of you guys are there at press day. That's cool, but let me ask this question: If you don't have a blog or podcast or work for a magazine, why exactly are you attending press day? Don't get me wrong, more power to you and all, but you know, in the end of the day, press day should be for the press.

And yes, the real benefit of the press badge besides the press day is the business area. Without appointments though, the BA basically is a relax area for everyone who wants to avoid the masses. No "real" value there for people without appointments.

Will be there all week, from monday to sunday! SO PUMPED this year, especially if there's even a Microsoft presser

I'm trying to get some friends to go together but I'm kinda discouraged by all the crowds -_-

How are queues on a press day (21st)? Every single press event I have been in the past, well, I pretty much had time enough to play every game twice or even thrice, but gamescom is obviously much bigger.

I know it won't be as bad as a public day but how is it?
