I hear you OP. I dread starting modern games because I know it's gonna be like an hour of cutscenes and tutorials. If I don't feel like playing anything else I will just play fighting games or rocket league.
Sounds like you need to find a new hobby, and eventually get back to it. Sometimes it always nice to step away from something to presever your love or interest in it. Over indulgence is never a good thing. Some people can withstand it, but your mind needs variety. Learning new thing helps build neural pathways. You ever thought of learning to speak....Chinese?
PC is the problem, at least for me, I can love a game, but then after some hours I might have a session where I'm not in the mood or not quite feeling it, which causes me to switch to other stuff. I end up having games coming in and out of rotation, without getting to deep into any of them.
The selection of endless games creates too many possibilities and it fucks up some gamers approach to gaming.
I never had this issue when I only gamed on console.
This year has been so dull to me, I'd struggle to name a GOTY candidate at this point. The most fun I've had is playing Powerstone with a buddy. to a T and Deltarune are right around the corner and I have high hopes for those titles. I'm excited about the Switch 2 launch with Mario Kart of course, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was more excited about playing Luigi's Mansion and F-Zero GX via Game Cube virtual console. My advice to the OP is just to play older games, it's what I play the most of these days.
Lots to unpack here, but I agree with some others who said you need a break from work. It sounds like you are beyond burnt out, I was there very recently (and looking to be back again later this year). Sometimes you're just so exhausted, even deciding what to play is a burden and you won't end up enjoying anything.
Don't force it. Try and find a way to separate from work a bit more. Maybe do something else, read a book or pick up an instrument or something. Give it some time and you'll enjoy games again. Most of them aren't going anywhere, if anything they'll probably be cheaper.
I'm mid 40s and honestly there's always something I want to play, just sometimes you got to be in the right mood for certain games.
Trying to force myself to play games I've already purchased but neglected almost never ends up being enjoyable.
For instance, a couple months ago I really got into Dead Cells and I've owned since the year it released. When I initially played it, I just sort of brushed it off for something else. Just wasn't in the right mood at the time. Now I absolutely love it despite not being a huge fan of "rogue-lites".
