Any gaffers going to gamescom?

Of course, if you go to cover stuff for work (which I've never had a chance for, but would like very much), the experience will probably be entirely different as well.

indeed, i hope to catch all the stuff i really want to see on wednesday, then endure the pain of gazillion visitors friday to sunday when i have to work :D

Btw Dawg, where is your avatar from? It's hilarious and cute. Love shibas!

Haha, thanks. I remember it started off with one pic on the internet and then people on 4chan started making the shiba even fatter. I think it's quite funny, especially the expression on its face :)

This picture in particular, I snagged off a random 4chan thread. I don't really know the exact name of this "meme" though :(

Top tip if it's your first press visit to Gamescom: you can get in an hour ahead of general opening on the public days. That should be handy for mopping up anything that you need to cover but can't get to on the Wednesday. We missed that bit of fine print last year.

Also, goes without saying really but try and schedule your appointments on the Thursday and Friday as much as possible, Wednesday is crowded but absolutely blissful compared to the heaving masses on the other days.

It's so much fun out there though. I'd consider attending on the Thursday and the Friday just to have a wander around with the crowd. So many ridiculous sights :)

See your top things immediately, they're letting some of the public in at 1pm.

Even on Wednesday and even when the public isn't let in yet, rush to get an 18+ band, then rush the things you want to see first. The queues build up ridiculuously fast, especially for anything 18+, which is hosted in stupid small cabins, so that even when only press are inside, there can be queues of 30 minutes or longer easily.

Not on the press day, my best experience was to not get an 18+ band first, then rush inside and get an 18+ there, and then queue up for what you want to see (for me it was the Vita - we were just in time before a large queue built up there, and any of the larger games are much worse than that).

All the non 18+ stuff is much easier to see and get to, so make that a lower priority. I was lucky enough to like that, but I'm still not planning to go back until the cabins have been abandoned, and you can just walk around watching other people play no matter the game's age rating. I still had a lot of fun though when I was there, trying Move games and such and talking to the Move Fitness developer

I've never got an 18+ band as a press member and never had any problems. Weird.

I'll be near Cologne on wednesday and thursday. I could reserve half a day to go to Gamescom but I don't kow if I should get a ticket for wednesday afternoon or thursday morning. Any wise gaffer could instruct me on whats the better option?

I know I wont have time to play much if anything at all, but I would love to see some next gen games and hold the controllers of xbo and ps4.

Thats easy. Wednesday is press & trade visitors only, which means a lot less people will be at the event :). The difference between Wednesday & Thursday is insane.

We'll be roaming the floor on Wednesday, on Thursday we won't even leave the business area. I'm afraid I will be crushed if I do :D.

I am already there. Will be on the show floor on wednesday and maybe on sunday with daughter and some friends of her. Sunday was not so crowded in the last few years. really looking forward to this years edition. Will be the biggest one ever.

Will be there on Friday. Its my first time in Gamescom, so really excited. Reading this thread made me realize I will not be able to try many games ... Ahh well, still excited to see the PS4 and Xbox One and try out the controllers.

First time I won't be visiting GamesCom after being there 3 years in a row :(. GamesCom refuses to accreditate me as a press visitor. I'm really upset about it. Worst part is, my boyfriend did get accreditated so he's going without me. Aaarghhh.

Sad, so sad :'(

You guys better have fun.

Edit: holy shit I got dejuniored.

Going to be there, but working pretty much all the time. I hope I have the chance to at least wander through the consumer halls a little bit. Usually I get to try 2-3 games I am semi-interested in (the real big games have lines even on the non-public day) before meetings pick up.

Can any German-GAF / Gamescom vets give us a few ideas re cool things to do in Cologne / nice places to eat / cool places to visit while in the area kind of thing?

because someone deleted the previous doodle :(

And The Dutch Slayer was supposed to put up a meetup OT :(
There will probably be just threads for the Conferences.

I'm working there for the weekend at Wargaming's ESL department, might not have much time during the weekend. But i'm in Cologne all week.

But they sold a shit load of tickes for Wednesday that were available for regular visitors. Heck they are still available to buy. Even though the price is a bit high with 25€, expect to see a lot more people than previous years this Wednesday.

Cologne is really one huge mess of a city. Nothing to do - nothing to see.

If you want advice for Colognes far superior neighbor city DÜSSELDORF though - I´m your man.

;)

Bulgogi Haus has the best Korean food I've ever eaten in Germany. Beyond that...the Kölner Dom is pretty impressive in case you are into big-ass churches. The beer there sucks though (people from cologne might disagree, but that just means they are wrong)

LOL

I probably like Düsseldorf more as well, but only because of my love for Japanese food.
