Any gun owners lurking...

So dad wanted a rifle for a while and because of this rush he had me tag along to the nearby shop by work. It's a huge police supply type of shop, but they got in a big pallet this morning of S&W ar-15's. In the 45min we were there they went through almost half the pallet, huge lines with people taking numbers. Guy said they will be out before lunch and sold out of all ARs

This is after a lot of stores already broke records after Obama was re-elected last month. Crazy. Good time to be selling.

Yup, my friend's online accessories shop is doing big business right now. They already sold out of PMAGs but people are buying up everything. He told me both of his main distributors websites have been continually crashing the last few days.

I just want to go to shooting ranges and use a rifle and handguns. Get comfortable with them. I just think it's something people should know how to do properly. I wouldnt want one in the house at this point.

Feel free to mock me but can you rent them at ranges? I see basic courses so I assume they provide you with something.

Yes. Different ranges will probably have different restrictions though. I'd call ahead or check their website to see if they have rentals.

The S&W M&P line of ARs are very nice guns for the price, so thats not a shock at all.

Yep most ranges will rent all kinds of fire arms for you to try out. Additionally most will provide a trainer to assist if you like as well.

In the 45min waiting to checkout for my dad's gun, I counted them sell 12 of the rifles and people still in line without getting one yet were all asking about if they would have enough for them and such.

There was some folks who also were just pointing and picking out tons of guns and stacking them in front of them, looked like the scene from Terminator 1. The whole rifle section was nearly wiped out and empty except for a few 3K+ rifles like the SCAR's and a couple exotics.

I went down to the shop that is fixing up one of my older shotguns and got to chatting with a guy there. Turns out they've sold 3 months worth of guns in 3 days.

Hopefully most of these folks are sending at least a little money to the NRA-ILE, GOA, SAF, JPFO, or whatever. IMHO better to ensure we can buy in a year than stock up now and never again. Be interesting to see what the NRA says tomorrow.

For those that don't remember, life during the first AWB was basically business as usual. "Pre-ban" rifles and magazines had a small price premium aside from a few items like Glock mags which weren't in wide distribution prior to the ban. But you will be SHOCKED to see how much stuff the manufacturers will crank out if a new AWB with a grandfather clause comes out. Triple shifts, all lines running! Makes the ban totally worthless, really, unless it grows real teeth.

Convenient timing for pmags since the military just out a freeze on usin them. All that military surplus is gonna end up in the civilian market I think.

Just remember to kick some over to the gun rights orgs.

Yeah I'm just not taking the chance that they decide to push something with real effect. The AWB was a legislative joke and it was completely ineffective. I'm afraid that they're well aware of that and will try to get a bit more this time.

How much do you want for it?

Not sure. I need to do my research.

Try Armslist or Gunbroker.

Thanks!

There's a very good chance they will not rent you a gun if you're by yourself.

The guys that run my local range said allot of people come in, rent and gun and commit suicide. IDK how much he was bull shitting me or how much is "allot" but he said they don't rent to some (crazy looking) people.

They are kind of dicks though I like to drive an extra 15 minutes and go to the one farther away.

Picked up a Smith and Wesson 386 XL Hunter today. Can't wait to shoot it.

Also my gun store was wiped out. Only thing left was a few .22 LR and even those were almost gone.

Ordered a CZ-512 recently. I really like it. It's the first semi-auto 0.22 LR that I've found that never jams on magnum rounds. I really highly recommend it if you are looking for a nice .22

Remember when Walmart said they weren't going to sell semis anymore? Well that turned out to be "come load up because we aren't going to restock for awhile" advertising.

Well of course...you think they were just going to throw away all of their stock?

Grr. I've been thinking about buying a AR or similar for a while now... seems too late.

What about a mini-14?

I was also looking at a ruger gunsite scout rifle... its a bolt action so it should be (somewhat) easier to find eh?

HBPaw.jpg

looks fucking pimp.

If you want something similar in .223 instead of .308 check out the Mossberg MVP Varmint:

Father in law just picked up a M&P AR today. He was originally looking at getting a license transferred CA legal PS-90 but that deal fell through so he impulse bought the M&P. I think he was looking to get a Mega lower tomorrow and start building out the rest of the rifle over the next month.

He told me that the store he was in had a line out of the door with people looking to order ARs. Crazy

Yea, I finally went to my local gun store to pick up some 00 buckshot and .22lr. Place was packed and they were completely sold out of semi-autos as of Monday. They already have a 60 person waiting list on their incoming stock.

Hey gaf Im looking into a ar15. What's a good brand? I have about $1000 to spend. Should I buy it online or should I try and find one in a store?

There are plenty of good ARs out there.. from big manufacturers who sell whole guns like Sig and S&W to smaller shops like LMT, Daniel Defense, Noveske, Rock River, and more where you can buy the upper and lower parts separately. You'll probably want to do your own research on this.. the variety of parts available is quite vast.

Unfortunately however you might not be able to buy an AR15 for under $1k for quite a while due to the current buying frenzy.

Here is my repost from this Thread:

I Just bought a Windham Weaponry Model # R16M4A4T "MPC" . $874 on sale at Cabela's. If you know the name Bushmaster, then you know Windham Weaponry. Bushmaster was bought out by Cerebrus (aka "The Freedom Group"), as well as a few others like Marlin and Smith & Wesson, if I remember correctly. Well, John Dyke and crew at BFI were not satisfied with the way Cerebrus was running the QA of Bushmaster's rifles so they left under a 5 year no compete clause.

Enter 2011, John Dyke retained as many of his original workers as he could and they started up Windham Weaponry. The rifle is essentially the original Bushmaster 2.0. True M4 feed, aluminum trigger guard and tighter tolerances. It is a 1:9 right hand twist, set up for both .223 and 5.56 NATO ammunition, and came with one 30 round magazine (Steel stamped GI style), and a Diamond rear flip up aperture.

I compared an older Bushmaster with this new one and the updates are evident. I don't think I have seen such a tight fit on the upper and lower assembly...there is no wobble when these two assemblies are mated. I cannot wait to put some range time on this, however due to the summer pre-monsoon dryness in the Az desert, quite a bit of the public land is closed for shooting due to fire hazards. Which in turn means looong waits at the rifle ranges.

When I get my optics delivered on Tuesday, I will post a picture. I splurged and got an early birthday present for myself in the LaRue Aimpoint combo using the T1 front red dot with the 3X Magnafier rear with the LaRue side flip mount.

Full specifications on the stock rifle:
Model: R16M4A4T
Type: Semi-Auto M-4 / AR clone
Caliber: .223 Rem. / 5.56mm NATO
Capacity: 30+1 Standard AR type magazine
Action: Gas Impingement Semi-Automatic
Receiver: Forged 7075 T6 Aircraft Aluminum
Receiver Finish: Hardcoat Black Anodize Finish
Barrel: 16" M4 Profile, Chrome Lined
Barrel Material: 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel
Rifling: 1 Turn in 9" - Right Hand Twist
Stock: 6-Position Telescoping Buttstock
Rear Sight: A4 Dual Aperture Adjustable
Front Sight: Elevation Adjustable A2 type
Weight: 6.9 lbs.
MSRP: $1,086.00

Here is my Windham Weaponry with LaRue mounts and Aimpoint T1 front with the 3X mag on the rear. The Front LaRue mount is an absolute coexist with the T1 and the rear is a flip out mount for the 3X Mag and is their short mount for that optic.

IMG_20120704_232247.jpg

I plan on replacing the grip, as this style is really small in my hands. I have no intention to replace the front stock with any rails, I like to keep it simple.

Taking this rifle shooting on Sunday, so I am pretty excited to get the optics zeroed in and see what it can do.

Damn, that is a nice haul. I have a baby due any day now and all my disposable cash went into the damned "push present". Soooooo tempted to take those things back and snap up a half dozen AKs and a few score pmags.

But prices will drop as the supply line gets ramped up. Don't fall for the price gougers, guys.

Ha. Very similar thing happened between my wife and I. She is always (jokingly) going on about zombie invasions, so that was how I justified my latest haul. Then again, she comes from a family full of hunters so having guns around is nothing new.

I can't even find any decent rifles in Pittsburgh. I got to the store and they just sold their last non .22 rifle an FS 2000. If i was earlier i would've bought it instead of my revolver.

Oh shit lol I was slacking off with my Christmas shopping. Was planning on picking up a Ruger 10/22 for my dad. Where do you shop in Pittsburgh? I was going to try ACE out in washington county tonight.

Shouldn't be so hard to get a .22. Most of the .22 stuff I saw was untouched part of the store but can imagine some who can't get an AR just taking whatever they can find similar "looking" or that has a high mag capacity than the many single shot hunting rifles.

They still had rifles at Aces. Any AR-15 style weapon was gone. The entire back wall is empty. The line was absurd their last night. It took over 50 try's to get through on the background check line.

I'm in the South Hills area.

Mags are still going for 5 for $300 on Gunbroker. Stripped lowers are going for $300 plus. Damn, I bought a Del Ton lower at a gun show for $75 in Sept. At the time I thought that was a really good price and was going to buy 3 or 4 but I didn't like the look on my wifes face when I questioned it. If only. Would be making bank.

Man I still have my New Frontier AR-15 polymer lower unfinished collecting dust... wonder if I should get rid of it for $300+

I'm contemplating selling it now...is it worth it?

If you don't want it or planned to sell it, probably now is the best time ever to do so or wait another week or two to see if stores restock up or if theres going to be long term shortages which will further raise prices.

The gun show was crazy last week here in middle TN. I had been looking to buy a Scar 17 for a while but I was forced to this week. I got a really good deal on one from an online shop before the price increased. 20 round magazines are impossible to find though and people are trying to sell them for 200 a piece.

Is it just me or has this ammo gotten worse.

Went to the range today. Shot a 100 pack of WWB, at least 5 failure to ejects. I don't remember my USP .40 ever having so many problems with this (or any) ammo. I didn't even get it at Walmart!

I seriously thought something was wrong with my gun but then I shot a 100 pack of Remington and a 50 box of federal with zero problems.

Shit man, a CZ SP01 AND a TRP 1911? I'd say you're set for pistols!

Try something else maybe? Rifle? Shotgun?

I was going to get an ar early 2013 but we all know what's going on. Was thinking of a shotgun. Not sure what I want. Mossberg 500 looks cool but Everyone has one.

If only I had made it into my store 15 mins earlier the other week. They still had an FS2000. I would've snatched that up.

I really like my Mossberg 930, I'm not sure I'd trust it as much as a Benelli M4 but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun.
