Any gun owners lurking...

Possibly my next weapon. Thats around the range I expected to get a shotgun for.

good luck... has been backordered since it came out. They are going for $2k+ on gunbroker.com

edit: and kel-tec just posted this on their facebook page:

KSG price increase due to proposed PUMP-SHOTGUN ban!

Pump-action shotguns, like many law-abiding citizens use for duck hunting and self-protection were not expected to be part of the upcoming Assault Weapon ban proposal. Kel-Tec has been made aware that the KSG is going to be one of the Pump-action shotguns included in the upcoming Congressional Assault Weapon ban bill. The KSG is Kel-Tec’s first pump shotgun and large amounts of resources were put towards its development and production. The distributor price of the KSG has been increased due to this likely ban. If the threat of a ban is removed, the price will come back down to normal levels.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this will certainly cause. Please contact your Federal representatives and tell them you do not support banning ANY pump-action shotguns, or other firearms.

My condolences to NY Gun GAF.

Been lurking the thread since one of my buddies down South took me shooting, and have been interested since. Shot a Mosin Nagant, an AR, a few 9mm pistols, a 1911, a .44 revolver and a few shotguns, and loved every minute of it. Looking to join a sportsmans club close to where I live, and already have my eye on a rifle from a dealer up here (fortunately for me, I happen to be fond of WW2 era bolt actions, so wouldn't be affected by the new law).

You can never go wrong with a 98K Mauser. One of the best single bolt action rifles ever made.

Going to buy some fun-guns this weekend. Looking at a Winchester Model 12 12ga and a 357 wheelgun. Either an used Smith or Ruger. Whichever feels better.

So a buddy of mine is trying to convince me to buy certain airsoft lowers, strip them and rebuild the trigger assembly for ARs. Seeing that I'm owned by the US government for another 4 years, not sure if that's a good idea.

Holy crap. My Yugo AK is now worth ~$1200. That's three times what I paid for it. Thinking about selling it, as it pretty much has been in the closet ever since I picked up my KelTec SU-16.

Hmmmm.......

Yeah I'm pricing FiveSevens just to see if I want to sell it back to the shop as a profit. They had a used PS90 for $1200 at the time I picked it and I talked myself out of paying $2000 for both. I'm an idiot.

Oh man, that was a freaking steal.

If I were to sell this, I'd be able to pick up my long desired CZ SP-01 Phantom, and more PC parts. I'm thinking this is definitely worth it.

Magazine Disconnect, yea or nae?
If nae, why not?
Meh. They don't really serve any purpose except to placate people who don't know any better. And on some models of guns, they're known to malfunction, preventing the gun from firing even when the magazine is fully seated, which is a situation you do NOT want to find yourself in if SHTF.

I've got two automatics, one with a magazine disconnect and the other without. Functionally, it's never made a lick of difference when I'm at the range.

About to get the wife and I a Ruger P95 for $300. Always likes guns and after careful consideration, I thought this would be a good start. Excited for a hobby to get us out of the house.

Not a fan.

Im sure there are some that are fine but on my mk.iii it made the magazines hard to insert fully and would hang them up on release. Took ten minutes to tear the gun down, remove the part and install a spacer. It also makes future take downs easier because you need to pull the trigger at various points to take the gun apart and put it back together.

Personally I feel a mag disconnect is LESS SAFE. if I have to dry fire a gun to take it apart I don't want a magazine anywhere near it. There are already plenty of ways for an semi auto gun to malfunction and adding another is a bad idea.

Excellent point. My bud has the Sweedish (I believe?) version of the Mauser - longer barrel, considerably heavier than the standard. Not sure how I got into the classic bolt action rifles, but damn if they aren't pretty.

Also, Springfield 1903. Want that.

I'm stuck between Springfield XDS (.45ACP) and S&W M&P Shield .40 (or 9mm) for concealed carry. They both feel good on my hands, but I don't have the opportunity to test-fire. What would you go?

I have a couple. One is a 1915 NRA model. Still shoots like a dream with minimal maintenance. It wasn't ever shot a lot... but I'll take it out now and then for a box of rounds in memory of my great-grandfather. It's pretty heavy, but a solid rifle. I don't like the irons on it.

The other one is a bit later of a model that my grandfather sporterized. Same receiver and trigger guard, but the stock was changed to a "hunting stock" and he added a lighter, tapered barrel. He always said he never took more than one shot at a deer with it. I thought he meant he never needed more than one shot. No... never took. See, he'd lightned it up to be just about 5~6 lbs (more with a heavier scope, obviously)... so when you shot it, all that .30-06 recoil knocked the shit out of you. Either what you were shooting at was dead or long gone.

I'd go with the XDS, but I have a big preference for the XDs... especially when you can get the extended mag for comfort while practicing. I also like bigger holes over smaller ones, but that's just mental bullshit. Otherwise, they're both good guns.

Buy the one that is smallest and lightest.

Carry guns get carried. If you find yourself not carrying because it's too large or inconvenient then the carry gun is useless as a carry gun. As nice as it is to shoot guns often I only put about a box of ammo through my carry gun when I go to the range. It hurts a bit to shoot. It's not for fun.

During my ban time, I recieved a Windham Weaponry CDI. This will be my last AR for sure. I also stocked up on PMAGs.

Windham Weaponry is quality (see my posts in this thread when I bought my MPC). Before the mad rush to overprice everything firearm related, they were undervalued vs MSRP.

Decided I wanted a Walther P22 having tried one (and loved it) this weekend. It'll be my first handgun...if I can ever find a new one for sale.
I can't find one anywhere.

And damn reliable. You can pick up any Mauser today, and if it was decently cared for it would most likely have less misfires. I would put it up against a Remington 30 caliper rifle which has suffered from misfires and accidental discharges since its inception. The reason why it's never been recalled is that gun manufacturers are protected under the 2nd amendment and not subject to regulatory action. CNBC did a story on it some time ago. And I believe you can see it on Netflix.

M&P way more reliable from what I've seen.

Got my Winchester Model 12 and a S&W Model 66. I looked up the serial on the shotgun and it was made in 1917, but the action is smooth as butter. I'm going to strip the stop and forend and restain it to pretty it up. The metal was in great shape and looked pretty good after I put some 44/40 on it.

The 66 came with some Hogue grips so I'm going to see if I can track down some S&W wood grips.

Yeah, it's probably the best AR I've owned. Am thinking about getting a piston kit for it. Waiting on a new compensator/flash hider to arrive. Think I'm just going to mount a red for on it for more. I love the Diamondhead BUS.

I ended up passing over both (when I was able to find both for a fair price) and ended up getting a new Springfield XD Sub-Compact in 40 S&W (same caliber as my old Glock). I was also lucky and found a fair price on ammo for it today as well. We'll see how it shoots on Saturday!

The XD will be far more practical for it's size because it will be my new CC gun.

Ordered the 20 round saiga 12 guage drum today. Pretty close to being done with this fun project.

Watching 'sons of guns' does not help either!

I'm new to Glocks. Does anyone know when the Glock 33 4th generation will be available?

No idea on the availability, but curious about your choice. Are you going with the 357 Sig ammo because it is readily available during this insanity, or because you can swap the barrel and have a Glock 27 as well? If it's the former I would tell you to wait because this will all calm down. If it's the latter, you can do the same thing with a Glock 27 which is easier to find.

Serious question, and not trying to antagonise or anything, but i've always wanted to ask a 'clip' of gun fans. Have any of you guys had to use your gun for protection? Ever drawn it on a human? Ever shot a person?

I want to get one because I was looking for a good sub compact .357 for conceal carry. And the fact the I can switch out the barrel if I wanted is an added bonus as well.

I have. But it was never fired. Went to a late movie. Three guys approach me yelling, one with a baseball bat. They were approaching and intercepting me faster than I could get to my car. Drew on them and told them to get back in their truck. They ran back to the truck bugged out and slammed over a curb. I called the cops and made a report.

I don't go to movies alone late at night anymore.

Bought my first official handgun over the weekend: A Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1911. This is for range-shooting only, I'm planning on getting something else smaller after I get my CCW.

I put 100 rounds through it on Saturday at an indoor range, so much fun! Handles great, feels great, shoots great.

If you like the Springers, check out the EMP. 1911 designed from the ground up to shoot .40/9mm. Makes a nice CCW. Downside is you can buy two Glocks for the price of one EMP.

I did have an opportunity to get a Baby Eagle compact in 9mm, but I decided to stick with 40S&W and get the XD sub compact. The holster I got seems to work well for CC also. Even tho the baby eagle I found was a "compact" model it would still be too heavy to conceal carry.

I was able to take the XD to the range over the weekend and it shot very nice. It seems to be more accurate than my old Glock. And I got my pinky extension for the short mag today.

Also got to shoot my friends new Nagant, another friends new Mossburg 500 12ga shotgun, and another friends CAR-15 (which I've shot before). I had a lot of friends with me that day, lol.

Edit: I think some day in future I'll get a 9mm Beretta instead of the 40 as a plinking gun (since 9mm is much less expensive to shoot).

Went and picked up my first gun today. I know it gets a lot of shit, but I couldn't ignore the price point, customer service, and the innumerable positive positive reviews.

So I got this ugly weapon:

45ACP.gif

Hi-Point 45

Also picked up two extra mags.

Total cost was around $250.

And I'll be using it mostly for home defense and range shooting. Reviews say that it'll eat pretty much any ammo and the 9+1 at a .45 caliber was enticing. Hopefully, I'll be hitting up the range this weekend, that is, if I can find some affordable ammo for it. Everyone seems to be sold out.

Pretty excited, and generally a good gun buying experience. Here in Louisiana, it's only a 10 minute waiting period.

Also, this thing is heavy as hell, haha. I read someone online described it as Thor's hammer and I can believe it.

-- Some of the reviews have been less-than-positive for the KSG/KSB, faulting a very strong recoil impulse, clumsiness of the magazine switching, and egregious jamming caused by the shell lifting lever. Might want to wait for the product improved version since they are almost impossible to acquire at the moment anyways.

Hi-Point 45

As much flack as these guns get, they really aren't that bad. They only thing you really need to do to get the hi-point to shoot well is hold it with a strong grip and stiff wrist. If you don't it may have cycling issues (at least I did with my friends 9mm hi-point).

Another cool thing is they are pretty dang accurate also once you get the sights dialed in.

I'm really excited about it as well. I read that due to the blowback action, you MUST hold it with a stiff wrist otherwise you will have cycling issues. But due to the massive weight of the slide, that force is reduced tremendously.

I've been poking around looking for some good ammo boxes, trigger locks, and grips.

The main thing I've had trouble with finding ammo. You would think 45 ACP wouldn't be that hard to find, but it is not only hard but damn expensive. It seems there is a massive search for everything gun related.

Came across this site www.ammoseek.com which searches the followings sites for ammo:

Ammo Sale
AmmoConnect
Brownells
Bud's Gun Shop
Cheaper Than Dirt
LAX Ammunition
LG Outdoors
LuckyGunner
Manventure Outpost
Midsouth Shooters Supply
Midwest Shooting Supply
The Sportsman's Guide
Triad Tactical
United Nations Ammo
Ventura Munitions
Wholesale Hunter

The cheapest they have is about $ 0.38 a round. Walmarts are all sold out in the area and I was going to call Academy shortly.

Anyone have some suggestions on online ammo dealers for range ammo?

I saw TulAmmo was about 18 a box at Academy but I've been warned that it has a coating on the casing which can gum up the barrel.

I was at Academy last week and they wanted $30 for a box of Remington .38 special. I was not happy.

MidwayUSA.com and www.ammunitiontogo.com are worth checking out for online ammo.

I looked at ammo2go earlier and they have no stock of FMJ ammo. The cheapest Midway has is 35 for a box of 50 HP, which isn't a bad price for HP, but unfortunately a bit pricey for range ammo.

It's amazing to me how big of a shortage there is currently. It almost reminds me of the hard drive shortage after the Thailand floods.

Edit: Just called Academy and they have 50 FMJ for 18 bucks. I'm going to go over and look at them.
