Anyone else bummed by the drought this year?

I know it's typical for a new gen to have this kind of slow initial trickle, I guess I just feel royally spoiled by the past few years of solid AAA releases, and seeing what's on tap this year and when most of it is coming out has been a sobering experience. Aside from releases like Destiny and DA3 (and who knows if those will make their dates with all the delays recently), I just don't see too much on the horizon in regards to AAA, and no The Order doesn't interest me much. Maybe E3 will surprise us with dates for some unannounced titles with releases this year? How typical is it for E3 to announce releases for new titles in the same year as the initial reveal?

So anyone else feeling the new gen drought blues like me? If so what games are you playing to keep you busy? Are there any games confirmed for this year I might have overlooked that are worthy of attention? Also curious about any anticipated indie games as those have mostly been my jam for the past several months. What say you GAF?
 
Yeah everything is feeling a little distant. Dota 2 keeps me satisfied and I'm keen to sink into Dark Souls II on PC.

The Witness, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Alien Isolation, The Evil Within... it all seems so far off. I'm interested in Evolve too.
 
I dunno. Pretty satisfied with being occupied by the Vita and the succession of games that's coming out for it later this year.
 
I barely even notice the drought. I was playing Donkey Kong on Wii U last month. I was playing Layton vs Wright on 3DS a few weeks ago. Next month I will be playing Mario Kart 8. And I don't even have Final Fantasy X HD yet.
 
Nope, Strider, Titanfall, PVZ: Garden Warfare and Trials Fusion are pretty good and holding my interest so far. Next month is Wolfenstein and Destiny Beta should be soon.

Betweeen PS4, Vita, PC, Wii U and 3Ds there is absolutely too much for me to handle, on top of that E3 is going to have some potentially huge announcements as always. That said, there is at least one good game for each month until the end of the year that I'm interested in.

If you need recommendations feel free to ask for them.
 
A drought? There've been plenty of games that I have in my backlog and there've already been a few games released this year that I greatly enjoyed. Not really noticing it.
 
Didn't notice the drought on PC.

If there's a such a thing as too many games, that's happening on PC right now.


As for the new consoles, I think everyone is holding on to everything they have for E3.
 
I don't do ``AAA'' gaming and my Vita and to a lesser extent my 3DS (BD) have not given me much reason to complain about the lack of games this year.
 
I am still on last gen consoles so no. We just got an onslaught of new titles in Feb/March, plus some games are coming in the next few months. I also just bought a PSP so I am flush with games to play.
 
No, because I have a backlog of games from previous and current generations I'm still adding to, combined with PC indie releases. I've either bought or received 63 games since the beginning of January.

Also, which systems do you own? That way we can recommend stuff to tide you over for a bit.
 
It's not as bad as the 360 and PS3's first year and a half. This last gen has been so dragged out there are still games coming out that I'm interesting in. Dark Souls 2 has kept me occupied. And now we have so many indie stuff coming out I don't really feel it as bad as the last time.
 
A drought of games usually means that games that you are excited for haven't come out. Very rarely is there ever a an actual drought of games for any consoles.
 
What you are feeling now is why I don't buy consoles at/near launch.

At least we aren't back in the Mid 90s when 2-5 games at launch and maybe another dozen in the first 4 months is considered acceptable :P
 
The Wii U drought is irritating but considering I'm now 5 games behind on my 3DS collection thanks to Yumi's Odd Odyssey, Professor Layton, and Conception II I can't really complain. I also had an expensive trip to Japan where I spent a bunch on retro games and hardware so I should be thankful that not much as come out this year.
 
I haven't felt a game drought since early 2006.

With a PC, 3DS and PS3 I'm drowning in games. I wish I had enough money to buy all the stuff I want.

Dark Souls 2 PC next week, Dynasty Warriors 8 PC next month, Garden Warfare PC likely in May/June, Evil Within in August. Those are just my most anticipated right now.

There are at least 5 indies I want this year off the top of my head.
 
Yeah, I'm really concerned about the lineups for the consoles later this year.

Big N has Smash, but not much else.

Microsoft has titles like Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive, but I have serious doubts both of those will make 2014. Both might miss 2014. There is also Halo 2 Anniversay supposedly, but I am not too eager to play a remake.

As for Sony all we know that is coming later this year for certain (apparently) is The Order: 1886. That alone is NOT NEARLY enough for a fall lineup. There are some other titles floating up there like Everybody's Going to the Rapture and Shadow of the Beat, but I doubt these will be the big AAA titles Sony needs. I am hoping Sony gets some big AAA releases out there this year like the next Uncharted or the next LBP, but I am not too optimistic.
 
As a PC gamer this year has already been, and will be complete madness. Quality releases pretty much every week, tons of games in early access waiting to be finished. This year will easily break any previous record of quality game releases and it won't even be a competition. AAA is a different matter though, that remains to be seen.

If I had a PS4 though, I would probably have 1-2 games total for that platform. Ground Zeroes and maybe Infamous. Next-gen is starting pretty slow but seems like indie releases are starting to fix that situation too (although most of those indies will have PC/other platform releases too).
 
The phenomenon you're observing is here to stay. Every major publisher has cut SKU counts due to skyrocketing budgets and severe risk aversion. EA releases about one tenth the number of games they once did. And you should expect more current publishers to die than new publishers to emerge going forward. It's time to either diversify your tastes, consider independent offerings and platforms, dive into a backlog, or get used to the new normal.
 
I knew we were in for a hefty drought, so I've been taking care of backlog games. I also transferred my FF14 PS3 license to PS4, and resubbed (probably just for a month).

But then, a friend bought me NEStalgia on steam. Holy fuck, game of the forever. Dragon Quest meets Wow with smallish servers (20-60 players). I've had no free time for the last week lol.
 
Already there have been more cool games this year than some recent years... Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, inFamous Second Son, Dark Souls 2... I'm even passing on other good releases I might have otherwise picked up: South Park, MGS Ground Zeroes, Titanfall, Garden Warfare!

So, for this time of the year, 2014 has been astounding!
 
Tons of stuff came out in March. I usually wait a long time to play new games, but even I ended up playing Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, InFamous: Second Son, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD.
 
I wish there more reasons to turn on my PS4, but honestly, there are so many games on PC and PS3 that I don't even have time to play them all.
I guess if you just limit yourself to new consoles like PS4/X1 you might feel the drought, but there are still quite a few PS3 games this year, and PC is always an endless flow of games.
 
Don't have enough free time, nor a dearth of games to play, both new and old. So I notice no drought. HelI I still haven't beat Infamous SS, and I got it at launch.
 
Um, OP:

Assassin's Creed (two full games!), Evolve, Titanfall, Dark Souls II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Wolfenstein (HNNNG), Alien: Isolation, Shadow of Mordor, Arkham Knight, Destiny, Sims 4, Evil Within, Borderlands, ...

And it's worth noting that almost no November announces have been finalized, while September and October are pretty weak. I'm really not sure what you're worried about.

This year's the equivalent to 2006, though. Expect to see amazing things in 2015, which'll be like 2007, presumably. Two years after the launch. That's when we normally see amazing things. Granted, 2007's best games were stuff like The Witcher, Crysis, World in Conflict, and STALKER, PC exclusives, and it's unlikely that The Orange Box, Assassin's Creed, or Bioshock-level brilliance will show up... but if it's going to happen, that's most likely when.

Will we see as dense a field of new IPs as we did back then? Dunno.

And I know Tropico 5's not most people's cup of tea, but it's the most important game being released this year.

Pretty much this. There are a metric crapton of games coming out. Perhaps not for XBone and PS4, but every other system is sitting pretty well in terms of solid software releases this year.

Games cost of lot of money to make. The PS2 glory days are over in terms of consistent releases for one console platform.

Diversify.
 
Unless you play only own a single console or play games that are short single player or have low replay value, droughts are no problem.

Between my just Wii U and 3DS I feel no drought at all and I've been thoroughly enjoying all the games I have this far. Throw a PS3 on top and I have an arcade fighting machine that lasts me forever

It just really depends on your tastes and how much time you throw into gaming. For a lot of people droughts are no big deal at all.
 
I'm loving it. Working on murdering my backlog, one game at a time. I have no self control when it comes to new games, so this suits me just fine.
