Anyone else NOT finish GTA:SA??

Until last night, I haven't picked up the game in weeks. It just got really redundant and boring really fast. Inconvenience abounds in much of the game, be it missions where you have to pick up a car at point A miles away and drive to point B miles away (leading to some cheap driving deaths etc), or the extreme loads for simple clothing swaps, or the sometimes inefficient road layouts etc.

Last night I went to the next available mission and found I had to get my swimming stats up before I could advance, so I swam for about 45 minutes to get my lung capacity up, jumped on a boat to head back to the hideout to save, accidentally triggered FBI pursuit by boating in restricted waters (still haven't unlocked the entire map), got blasted and lost all the obscure weapons I had worked to acquire. Pissed me off so much I just shut the game off and lost the lung stats.

Admittedly I stifled things a bit by securing the entire Los Santos map in the initial turf wars section, which maxxed out my respect very early and wasted 5+ hours of my time, but even still I don't get the feeling that a straight cruise through the missions would have kept me interested enough to go through the game in successive playthroughs with no layoff. The story just seems haphazard and incedental, and the missions just don't seem that fresh to me. Maybe I'm burned out from GTA3 and Vice City, but I just feel like I've done all this shit before.

I'm honestly not sure I'll finish the game.

I haven't finished it but that's just because I have exams...which reminds me I should be studying instead of posting.

Same, I was very close to the end of the game as well. Unfortunately I had to finish a huge time consuming project (the company wanted it done quickly) and I had to stop playing it. Sadly when I had some free time again there were too many new release titles and as a result I haven't touched the game since. I'll probably start playing it after work this week, it was really a lot of fun.

I played the first ten missions or so (I think the last one I did was the one where you have your first motorbike chase).

I think it's fantastic, but it didn't hold my attention. I only just finished Metroid Prime: Echoes, maybe I'll go back to GTA:SA.

Still, what afriend said to me is still echoing in my mind - he claimed he was giving up video and computer games (in terms of buying and following - still aprtial to the occasional bash, I think), because he had absolutely played everything there is to play - and unless something truly unique comes around, he'll probably stay out of the loop. I disagree he actually has played everything (he probably only played a bunch of mainstream stuff), but I can see his point.

I haven't finished it either, i got close to the end but stopped playing when i got metroid prime 2. I just finished that so i started gta again today.

finished it.. by the time I got to Las Venturas I was:

1. really tired of the game
2. determined to finish it, since I had gotten so far

therefore i activated cheat mode on some missions.. like the ones you have to steal 4 cop bikes, most annyoing mission ever.

Me neither. I simply loved GTA3 & VC, but i just can't keep my interest in this game. I was absolutely for sure that i would love this game but i find i'm having to force myself to play every once ina while so i don't feel bad for blowing $50.

At first i couldn't figure out why i wasn't enjoying myself like i had with teh other 2. But i think i figured it out. This style of gaming is no longer fresh and exciting to me anymore because i've done it in too many games. But Rockstar could change one thing and i think i could renew my love affair for the game and that would be to give me the option of starting each mission that i fail over again at the beginning instead of making me load my game then i have to get into my car and drive 15 min. clear across BFE to start a mission and fail it within 30 sec. Now those 30 sec. are fun as hell but having to suffer through all the driving and stuff to get there is ridiculous when just having a mission checkpoint system would aleviate.

I'll bet my left nut that this option makes an apperance in the next game, i just wish they would of done it with this one cause underneath all those chores is one awesome game trying to get out.

Played firtst 14-15 missions I think and stopped there. It's GTA3 and VC all over again. Plus I have to finish MGS3 and MP2:E.

I quit playing just after I reached San Fierro. The game just isn't able to hold my attention.

The fact that I took the time to capture all the turf in Los Santos, which I immediately lost after the next mission played a role too.

I was pretty disappointed with San Adreas. Rockstar created a really huge world, which is cool, but the game lacked the context that makes the world interesting. Vice City is one of my favorite games of this gen because everything felt right. San Andreas is lacking that cohesion of story and atmosphere that makes the game world interesting. For example, the hollywood and beverly hills part of Los Santos have no missions associated with these areas. So these places feel left out and uninteresting, because there is no context. The same goes for 95% of San Fierro, Las Venturas and the countryside. This, alone, makes Vice City the much, much better game in my mind. There's also the fact they didn't expand on a lot of the things I thought they would expand on, things that made Vice City all the more cooler. Like how in roughly the middle of the game you become the crime boss of vice city. The first time I played it, I thougt the game ended there. But no, once you become the boss, you have to play as the boss. And that was so cool, and something like that is absent in San Andreas. There is no meaningful progression for the main character. Another thing is property. Property in Vice City meant something, in San Andreas it really doesn't mean anything. You can buy a couple of safe houses here and there but it's not impactful on the world and doesn't generate context like the many vice city businesses did. Those are my main gripes. Still, I enjoyed it and the world is still very fun to play even without context, but it could have been so much more.

*cough*

Uhm. There are missions in Hollywood. Mad Dog's home is in Hollywood Hills and eventually
you take over that house and do missions from there
.

There are many places in the countryside that have missions. There's the regular storyline related missions at Carlita's(sp) house and the trailer park. There's the trucking missions that are located in the heart of the country. There's the Mount Chilead(sp) missions. Many missions have you going across the entire countryside making good use of side roads and shit.

In short, either you haven't played the game long enough or we disagree heartily. You say some places feel left our or whatever but jesus christ there's a place to do some sort of mission at basically every God-damned corner of San Andreas (with few exceptions).

And you could have stopped right there. Paul777, your post is ridiculous and easily discounted by anyone who's actually bothered to get to Las Venturas, never mind actually finishing the game.

Yes, but I'm not talking about just location, I'm talking about missions that add to the context of the location. The missions originating from the mansion did not add anything to that part of the game world. It only served to further a contrived and uninteresting storyline.

You are clearly not understanding me. Trucking missions do not add context to the world. Let me give an example to make things more clear. The movie studio missions in Vice City, those added context to that half of prawn island, plus there's the big light beacon you turn on in one of the missions - that adds context. The other half of prawn island had context through the mission where you go in with the helicopter and you destroy an entire gang.

You clearly haven't finished the game if you think that the missions don't add "context" to the game world - whatever that's supposed to mean.

Badlands? Body Harvest - stealing the harvester and making your way back to the Farm? The numerous Catalina missions? Weed burning in Are You Going To San Fierro? The Toreno missions at the abandoned airport? And those are just off the top of my head. Purchasing businesses (and completing the associated missions) are EXACTLY like Vice City. CJ starts out as a poor guy who's on the outs with his former gangbanging comrades and elevates himself to a record mogul, controller of all the territory in Los Santos, car dealership owner, government agent - just to name a few. You do know that there's skill progression in the game as well, don't you?

If you don't like the storyline in comparison to VC, that's a legitimate opinion. But to say that
For example, the hollywood and beverly hills part of Los Santos have no missions associated with these areas
and
Property in Vice City meant something, in San Andreas it really doesn't mean anything. You can buy a couple of safe houses here and there but it's not impactful on the world and doesn't generate context like the many vice city businesses did.
and this amazingly insightful piece of work
There is no meaningful progression for the main character.
is so woefully inaccurate that it's laughable.

Insert mega-rolleyes here.

I finished it like a motherfucker. Everything else was put on hold and I put in like 70 gameplay hours in a week. I guess you could say I got addicted.

This does not even make sense. You said Beverely Hills and Hollywood don't have missions in them. They do. And as for adding context to the world... what the heck are you talking about? Do you know what context means? How are you trying to apply it to any of this? It's just not making a lot of sense here, paul777.

Again with the context. What do you mean? First of all, if you're talking context as in using the game world fully... then you better pack up and go home because there are so many possible ways to own you with that line of thinking that it damn near renders your entire speech void. Not only that, but that's not what context means.

Let me put it this way. But your own definition, San Andreas even adds context to the fucking train tracks because there are missions you can complete that utilize all the tracks.

I just got to San Fierro, so I'm really excited to finish the rest of the game, even though it will take a while.

I haven't. The sheer size and scope of the game is what made me stop playing it eventually. There was no end in sight. I made it out to Angel Pines and did several of those missions but then I moved on to other games in my backlog and new stuff like Alien Hominid and MP2E. I plan on going back to it eventually though.

Nah. The core game of SA is about the length of your average RPG if you just blow through it. I have yet to finish it, even though I'm only 2 or 3 missions from the end. I just got caught up in playing other games and haven't gone back to it yet.

The stats say that I'm 68% completed and I'm now in Las Venturas. I should keep dating this girl in order to get new missions, but it's kind of slow and boring so I haven't felt like playing for a while. The size of the game is amazing, but Vice City is a better game.

I haven't finished it either, but not because I don't love the game or anything -- I do, so much so I almost don't want it to end. I have three missions left and every time I boot it up I find something else to do (taking over territories, maxing out the side missions, etc) instead of actually starting the missions. I will finish it eventually... but...

My save got wiped out by the infamous Viewtiful Joe 2 demo. I was quite far and I was so frustrated that I considered just trading the game in, but instead I'm waiting for my winter break to dive back in and see if I can salvage my fondness for the game.

Does this mean that the Turf wars will return as you make progress in the game?
I was disappointed that the whole territory thing just suddenly ended as unlocking San Fierro comes into reach.

Also I enjoyed the beginning of the game far more than what comes next. You had far more short missions, that type of gameplay really sucked me up and at that point I thought SA was far better than GTA3 and VC. Too bad you and up just driving around a lot and only doing a couple of longer missions avery now and then.

Too busy, and other games are taking the priority. I love GTA:SA (I typically don't like GTA games that much), but it takes a backseat to the other games, since it's extremely easy to "get back into it". I usually go on random bouts of pimpin and doing various unnecessary missions from time to time.

Oh wow I thought I was the only one who thought this.

For me the eating and getting in shape stuff reminded me of the Sims too much. It's like why am I doing it in a game when i have to do it in real life? And I think its just too damn big.

And most importantly I was very let down by the soundtrack. Dude it just SUCKS!

I haven't eaten/went to the gym in hours in my GTA:SA game and my CJ's still buffed up, and his stamina's still high. It's not like it requires a lot of time.

But I agree with the music. I think there was far more potent material from that era than most of what was included in the soundtrack.

I will not stop playing this game for months (or until the Xbox version comes out, and I can kiss another month goodbye trying to finish the story)

My goal was mainly to get to Las Venturas. Once I got there, I haven't picked up the game since. It is a fun game, just so many good games out right now, and San Andreas is so very long in comparison. I wanted to finish a lot of my other games.

Well, I've been playing the hell out of ESPN CH. I'm in my 2nd season now. Not just that, Halo 2 online and finally got into MGS3 more, I just beat the Pain last night. I stopped playing GTASA at the part the blind dude is beating me in videogames. I didn't stop because I hated it, I stopped because I have more games to play. Plus the family now plays Mario party 6 a lot

I didn't finish because I was so close to the end and had to start all the way over because of that darn demo sony sent me. I don't have the thirst to play this and many other games again. That was my last time starting over on Timesplitters2, unlocking everything again (lost memory card and had to start over).

I didn't finish it either. I got fairly far into it though. If I remember correctly, I made it all the way to the first mission in Las Venturas. Then, Halo 2 came out and I put SA on the back burner. Then, WoW came out and I put SA back into the refrigerator. Now, I think I'm just going to wait until the XBox version comes out and finish it then. Aside from having other things to play, the framerate and other technical problems with the game really hindered it in my opinion. Hopefully, the XBox version is a bit more polished.

I'm still working on it, though I'm getting somewhat discouraged. In short, I don't like the missions worth a damn. The world building is amazing, the details are terrific, the radio stations are a hoot - and the missions generally just frustrate me. I seem to recall liking Vice City a whole helluva lot more, though who knows - I may have been bitching about the missions then, too.

I've gotten a few missions into San Fierro and will probably get back to it before too much longer...but first I've got a whole helluva lot of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne to play.

Wow. This is a no-no for me. After hearing all the praise, I figured there would be a "this is the same old shit" backlash when people figured out the new stuff in it is boring (yay let's play dress up!). GTA is a very tired series from what I can tell. After Vice City, I was freakin sick of it, so I just didn't buy SA. And I won't now.

Am up to the point where you steal a helicopter with a large magnet hanging from it, so you can steal another vehicle. I got the vehicle and was 5 feet from the drop zone when I died. I spent like 10 minutes trying to pick it up again and put it down just 5 feet away, but the controls suck so much balls that I overshot and hit a fucking building. Then I blew up real nice. I spent an HOUR on that mission. Just taking my time and sniping everyone in my path real slowly. Getting that chopper and then the vehicle felt so good. Dying made me want to throw my controller cuz I felt like the game cheaply stole my victory from me. Heven't played it since. Probably won't for a while either with Halo 2 being so addictive.

Taking a break from it due to Pilot School and the over sensitive controls on the plane that make me want to scream.

I have about 15 hours logged and I just did the mission with the motel shootout that ends up with a police chase complete with the helicopter. The ending was lame as hell tho. But this morning I just received Front Mission 4 and Shin Megami Tensei, so GTA goes back to the shelf for a while

I'm 19% complete with 60 hours right now. I did explore all of the first city to get all the grafittis though. Also found alot of interesting pick-ups too. I'm about to finish the first city missions now that i'm done.
At this rate, it's gonna take me forever to complete the game lol. My goal is a 90% complete or more without any guide or help.

Nah, Wow has pretty much taken my time. I'll get back into it when I get my fill of that game or there is a long patch day or something.
