Yeah i dont really know what im gonna do in my situation. Saving is gonna become one of my priorities. The place i am at now is pretty good. I get decent pay, full health benefits, and its a 40 hour week job with overtime pay. But they are kind of a sinking ship. They are expanding but have no clear business direction. Guy has truckloads of money so i think im good for the next 6 months to a year, but i cant see this lasting.

All of my friends i worked other jobs at in my same field (graphics) are getting killed. They make barely anything or are unemployed and broke. It breaks my heart to see them constantly struggling at 330$ a week after taxes and they gotta pay bills and rent. They dont even make enough to live.

If i get put out of the job im gonna be in the same boat they are in. Fucked.

Still no luck finding a job, boyfriend isn't having any luck either. I'm also pretty much out of pricey things to sell which is how I had been making my minimum bill payments till now which is $400/month. Just got told I need to move out of my moms house because she wants to rent my room out. This is stressful. I really don't know what to do now. :( currently BF and I are staying with a friend though we're sharing his room and his cat has a spraying/pissing problem so it's not the best situation to be in.. I'm kinda just wanting to go ahead and try moving up to Kentucky with him to stay with his dad and brother because I feel like we would at least have better job luck there but would still need the money to cover bills in the meantime and the gas money to drive up there. :[

WHAT?!?! your mom wants to kick you out for a few hundred bucks a month and live with a stranger???

is there more story to this? do you not get along with her?

I just went for an interview today for a sales and marketing position. For the love a god, I really hope I get it. I'm sick of being unemployed, I'm 26 and still living at home with my parents and it's killing me. I've been unemployed since Feb, once I get a new job I'm getting my own place ASAP.

It's been about two and a half months since my company closed down, no severance either. Before that I was working for eight years. Lately I have been feeling a bit depressed.

I have seven years of experience in mortgage and usually had no problems finding jobs before but no one is calling me back at the moment. My resume is fine, the jobs I apply for are actually below the things I was doing (I was a manager) since I am getting desperate.

Now with all this free time for gaming, I actually play less. And fuck that guy that came in bragging about his raise.

I haven't lived in Japan since April 21st 2009. To be honest, leaving Japan was the start of my employment problems.

question- what does one do about health insurance if they leave their job for another job? Can you get it through COBRA? I feel like I'm going to slit my wrists if I spend another two months at my current job but as anyone knows you have to wait a number of months at most new jobs to get their health insurance, and considering my use of insurance over the past couple years I could easily be fucked if left without any.

She moved out to her BF's months ago. I can stay at her BFs for now if I want to but honestly he's an asshole, pervert, creep that I feel VERY uncomfortable around and they have a very unstable relationship. So for right now my plan is to just move my stuff over there and keep staying at my friends. :/ I Just wish my friend would stop spending his money on useless stuff and like, pay to get his cats balls chopped off.. he's very messy/gross in general but I figure I'll keep cleaning/doing dishes since him and his mom aren't charging me rent to stay there.

Just finished my degree so I'm unemployed atm. Was going to take the summer off before looking but it's going to take months and months I'm sure so I may as well start now.

I live in the UK, had my first job at 14, had a voluntary work placement at 16 and had a job at 19 during my first year at uni so I've got some experience, nothing that's really gonna help with what I'm looking for tho and it's not like the Job Centre is any help.

That has happened to me a few times. Go on the interview, everything goes well, then they tell me they eliminated the position. I got laid off before getting hired!!!

This is true. The health benefits are good and it gets you on a schedule. Gives you some kind of normalcy of doing something at the same time everyday. I actually got in alot better shape when I was not working. I used EA Active everyday.

currently I'm unemployed but I'm going to school so I'll try and get a part time job at a grocery store or something to bring a little cash in.
Although I'm bad luck, when I say I'm going to apply/ fill an application, about 5/7 places I've applied for closed a month or two later :lol

also

I'm curious but how bad is finding a job in Holland? I have a friend that says it's worse then here, she can't find anyone hiring, Dutch gaf help :lol

Third this. Going for a run is the best thing I did during my depression/unemployment. You get exercise, fresh air and it helps take your mind off things. Any time I began to feel low sitting at my computer job hunting, I got in the habit of putting on my sneakers, iPod and getting out.

Try to head somewhere away from busy roads and cities. I'm lucky enough to live within ten minutes of the coast. Running alongside nature's beauty can really make your problems seem insignificant.

Well, after a month of being unemployed I got an offer yesterday and accepted. It will be at a job that I'll be making more money at than my last job doing the work that I want to do. I guess my timing and luck were just right, and I'm pretty happy.

Funny thing is, I still have to attend a mandatory NYS unemployment meeting today.

I got laid off about a month ago, but I've got a phone interview next week for a job in Albany. I've got some good connections at the place and I'm pretty certain I'm one of the top folks in contention.

I currently live in Columbus and I'm from Ohio, but I'm more than willing to relocate. I'm only 23 and there's not much keeping me here. Plus, Albany is a great location. It's two and a half hours from New York City, three hours from Boston and four hours from Montreal. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Found out last week that my company will be cutting my position. Sucks even more because I have been here 11 months and was clearly looking at an upcoming raise. Prior to this job was 8 months of job searching after I graduated college.

Hopefully something comes up quick.

Yeah, that's pretty cool to live so close to Boston and NYC. Good luck with the position.

Good luck! I used to live in Schenectady (20 minutes out of albany), while Albany itself isn't a great town, it does have some charm. Bombers is a fun place to drink, and head into Schenectady if you like Italian food.

I've been at a very low paying college bookstore job since I graduated in Dec 2007. A position opened up at the store that's a mix of web design/graphic design/manager stuff (opening and closing the store, working the service desk, etc).

I'm interviewing at 1:30 w/ my current boss. I think she likes me well enough and I do a good job at my current position. I would assume they want to hire from within and I already know a ton of stuff like how to work the registers, close a register, and I know EVERYTHING about textbooks.

Fingers crossed. If I don't get the job, I gotta move home for a bit as money is too tight currently. If I get the job, it will probably be about a ~30% raise and I can stay living around the store (moving home would be ~45min away w/ no traffic, 1.5 hour commute everyday during rush hour).

My biggest weakness for the job is I only really know HTML/CSS. The job will probably call for more advanced web design skills, but I think I can play off during the interview that I'm a fast learner and can learn whatever they need me to know for the position.

I've been searching for 2 months now. Have applied for 20 places or so. Not even one call for an interview. It sucks but what can you do? Nothing but to keep on trying.

I've honestly have never been to Albany before, but I've heard mostly good things.

But as I said earlier, the most exciting part is its proximity to other cool places. Geographically, it appears to be a crossroads for much of the Northeastern U.S. I can hop on an Amtrak train at Rensselaer to get to NYC, I can get on I-90 and head to Boston, or I could jump on the Adirondack Northway and go to Montreal. All in four hours or less. That's ridiculously cool.

And thanks for the support, Unemployed-GAF! Hopefully this works out. Everything about the job and the location feels perfect for me.

Best of luck to everyone. Reading this thread makes me appreciate my job more, even though I have some really fucking annoying co-workers/bosses.

I've been looking for a new job recently and it's slim pickings for my field (electrical engineering) in my area (Central, FL). But I have a few contacts I'm going through, so hopefully that works out.

You may need to give your resume and cover letter an overhaul. Half the time you don't get responses, it's because you're not a good fit. The other half, it's just that your resume did not get noticed.

A good cover letter will get an employer to look at your resume.

I had an interview with a state job yesterday. I'm not entirely sure if I'll get it since they said they are hiring 100 positions with 1000 people interviewing for them. I thought I did good. I have another one on Friday, which will be my 6th interview in total in the past 3 months. (4 in person, 2 phone)

You guys only confirmed my worrying. I have two jobs but they're part time. I graduate soon and putting applications everywhere... I'm in SC though. The only thing I can think of doing if I don't a have a good job by this time next year is to move. Move to one the the single digit states:

It is, but I have a few factors limiting my options:
  • I live in FL (check the list above)
  • I don't want to relocate due to family & house
  • I'm not willing to take a paycut

I've really only begun seriously job hunting since last week though.

I'm so close to getting a job I can taste it. Went through 2 interviews for this position and they called my references. It's between me and some other guy, I'll find out this week who they chose. The wait is killing me, it's like the perfect position considering where I am right now in my career, if I don't get it I'll be fucking crushed :(

I've been unemployed since Feb of this year and it's incredibly difficult to keep my spirits up during this time. Getting the energy to get out of bed in the morning and do something productive is so hard, when you feel like you lack purpose it's just so debilitating :/
