Good for you, I remember when you announced your 'dismissal'.
So does managing mean people, or actually working on the site?

Should I tell them that my clinical depression kept me from seeking a job during that time and that I've sough treatment and I'm out of the doldrums, so to speak? Do employers tend to understand the seriousness of depression and look at it as a valid medical reason for not being employed?

About 280 people applied, so i am feeling awesome to get to the last 8. I went to the interview and answered the questions to the best of my ability. They said that on paper, my CV looked great; in person i was fucking amazing. However as a result they thought i'd be gone soon (partially true, i had applications for my masters done at this point).
TLDR: I didn't get a job because i was too awesome.
I don't know how to feel right now.

This was the first time I got thrown out which was a week ago and my D.M. told me today I'm bye bye. I'm 25 right now and living in NJ under my mother's roof. I'm feel a little bit guilty that I got shafted, I never had any problems during my tenure working there but kind of relieved that I'm out of there cause it was my first job. I really don't know what to do right now, I don't even know if I could collect unemployment???? What to do, what to do?![]()

It is best to file either way, and seek a hearing before the labor board. Many employers, particularly those is service industries, tend to fight against unemployment compensation as a norm. But just because they said you didn't follow policy when you were let go doesn't mean you aren't eligible for benefits. Make them prove it.Patryn said:I believe if you were fired for cause, you would be unable to collect unemployment. Your best bet is to file for it, then see if the company challenges it.
Good luck!Kentpaul said:Asda warehouse app form, this is my only hope...

Sorry for the late reply there CrankyJay. I worked as a receiver and we had a situation where one of our vendors was stealing their own products back as soon as we scanned them in. So they got caught once they did it again but security went back to the tapes all the way from January and see me handcounting the product in from this vendor instead of scanning it off the product. I would scan the the scansheet that the vendor produce because some vendors we do that with. Well apparently, they have me on tape one time not even checking the product in which I refute but they have it on tape. I really don't know why I did that because I check everybody that comes in so thats my fault. Maybe I was having a bad day/sick/I dont fucking know but it happen.CrankyJay said:Sucks man. If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you do wrong?

So based on that footage, they threw me out once they discovered it which was last Friday and today I had a brief meeting with my district manager and told me he to terminate me due to I wasn't following company policy as per my position. He told me I could put him down as a reference because I was well like by him and all of management cause I'm always working, going out of my way to help the store out.
So right at this time, I'm gonna file for unemployment online and hope for the best. I really don't like the situation I'm in cause I have several debts I owe which I've been paying on time and fixing my credit that was fucked back in the day. I like to go back to school again, for what, I dont know but I know I still have my youth so anything can happen. I hate being optimistic but it sure beats depression which I surely overcome during my teens/early 20's. Gotta look up and not down. And if anybody from Northerner NJ/NYC area is looking for a hiring hand for whatever. I'm your man!
Manmademan said:I used to be a recruiter and it depends. Everyone I placed was paid for by the company- it didn't get deducted from their check. Of course my postitions tended to be all professionals getting permanent placements (i.e. not "contractors" working FOR me at that company) so take that as you will.

Thanks for the well thoughts! They knew I wasn't in with the vendor but it was my own damn fault for not doing my job properly. I filed online for unemployment meant so its just a waiting game right now. I really hope I don't go back into retail again, I suffer long enough and seen what it does to the older crowd that stick to it for their entire careers.CrankyJay said:Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they don't think you were in on it with the vendor. That's pretty crazy that the vendor would do that. I used to work in a grocery store, too.
Best buy doesn't work on commission so I would say go with Gamestop. You get to check out games and they give you a paycheck on a debit card so you don't even have to worry about opening up a bank account. As long as you can alphabetize and upsell then I don't see you having a problem getting a job there. The only down side is that you have to go home at the end of your shift and leave all those cool games behind.boredofcanada said:been unemployed for a year now, so i went back to school and got accepted to a radiology tech program, thing is, it doesnt start till january of next year, so now i have nothing to do till then. been looking for a job, damn its bad out there. thinking of going to best buy or gamestop. any advice?
Na dude, don't even worry. Heaps of people go through design school without working a pt job or anything, and don't worry about a job hunt. You're 21, I'm sure your folks wouldn't mind putting up with you and helping out a bit longer whilst you look for work, I mean, you did just graduate afterall.Gettysburger said:I'm going into the last year of my BA in Architecture at Washington State University (gocougs), turning 21 in two weeks and I've never really had a steady job.
Any work I've done has been very short duration, at most one month doing random jobs. While at school I work at a front desk for a residence hall, and that pays okay but all-in-all, i'm pretty broke and starting to feel the pressure of the job hunt.
Living off my parents for the summer, got no car and no cash, and am pre-emptively lamenting how lame my 21st birthday will be
Depends on the company. If they need people ASAP, they'll push through applications a lot faster, which is a good thing, nothing worse than waiting, and waiting and waiting. Is it generally considered a good thing if someone responds to your application quickly? I had an interview for a job in New York last week and was emailed for it 3 days after I sent my resume, etc. Trying not to psych myself out about it but I've been lucky to hear anything at all, and if I do it usually takes a couple weeks.
I've never heard of this before. They give you paychecks on prepaid debit? Seems more like a negative than a positive.Anslon said:Best buy doesn't work on commission so I would say go with Gamestop. And hey, even if it doesn't workout, it gives you more time to begin looking for more because they made it a speedy process.

It definitely could, man! Keep the optimistic thinking going, no point in being negative. Good luck with it.Frester said:Yeah, I was wondering more if it means they were really interested in me specifically because they wanted to get me in for an interview and get an offer out before I theoretically took something else (optimistic thinking, heh).

They made an announcement that if you were on parole or a convicted felon and didn't have certain forms, they would not be able to see you. Literally half the room got up and left.
Listening in on some of the interviews, people were 7th grade drop outs or had some really shady stuff going on with criminal records. I felt that if I couldn't get a call back I should just drive off the bridge on the way home.
So, when it was my turn, the girl there looked at my app, looked at my resume, then clicked yes about 50 times on the computer and now I have an interview on Tuesday next week at the warehouse!

Nailed nearly every single SQL question they threw at me and was told that I am "quite knowledgeable for someone fresh out of college." This is my second time being interviewed by this particular company in about 2 months, the first of which was an on-site all-day affair. Apparently I only just missed the cut the first time around but they decided to get in touch with me for a second shot when new positions opened up. Fingers crossed.
