Anyone having doubts about Super Mario Galaxy?

I honestly believe the real Mario will be Super Paper Mario, which will be out on April 9, 2007. Mario in 3D just never made sense to me. 64 was pretty good, but looking back, it had none of the whimsy, imagination, or creativity that SMB3 or SMW had. Sunshine had its bright spots (pun), but I think was a gaming failure.

After spending a lot of time with NSMB and Yoshi's Island, it's easy to see that Mario (the platformer) belongs in 2D. Galaxy might be fun, it might have excellent graphics, but I still get the empty feeling that I always got from 64 and moreso from Sunshine, but that is without playing it. I have no doubt that Galaxy will be a great game, but I think the real greatness will be releasing in just over a month.

*Super Paper Mario hype increasing*
Just so you know Super Paper Mario also has a lot of RPG elements and people expecting it a straight up platformer will be disappointed...

Galaxy did have camera controls --- i guess a lot of folks didn't pick up on the fact them being mapped to the D-pad on the larger planets.

from what i remember it was more 'clicky' camera like M64
That makes me really happy!:D
Not having control of the camera sort of takes a lot of sense of exploration out of a game (and z reset is camera control for the Wii Zelda haters. The simple camera in the GC version wasn't that much better and not having the option of resetting the camera behind Link became really annoying).

No doubts from me. I guess I am one of the few people who enjoyed the Waterpack Mario game (can't think of the name of it) so if it's just more of the same, I'm up for it. Although I will say that in that waterpack game, there were these platform levels (I think they were secret levels. not sure) and those were much better than the rest of the game. Give me some good platforming action!

The Hotel felt like it was this beta stage that somehow made it in to the final version. And **** that stupid level where you had to take Yoshi in to the attic.

The outside was awesome, though. I loved fighting that ghost stingray.

As amazing as the videos look you just have to play it to fully understand. It's the only game I played at the EB/GS Manager Conference that absolutely floored me.

Wrong.

*Let me clarify:
SPM is a Platformer with VERY ****ING LIMITED RPG elements, unlike the previous Paper Mario games which were RPGs first and foremost.*

What? Maybe they won't be dissapointed with the game, but it does have a lot of RPG elements... What the hell are you saying wrong?

It does not have a lot of RPG elements. That is a misconception, part of which I should take the blame because I have been cautioning people to temper their enthusiasm.

I have learned differently.

Oh ok. You just can't read...

That's pretty much exactly what he said.

No, he said "a lot of RPG elements" and "not a straight-up platformer," which is inaccurate.

SPM is a 2D sidescroller like the classic Mario games (SMB-SMW).

:lol ok ok...

Pics to get back on topic.

It's probably between the 3 most important reasons I'm buying a Wii, so it better not disappoint. Plus it looks so good and fun I'm sure it won't.

yes, lots of it.

is it mario actually jumping on platforms or were there people building platforms so that mario would be able to jump on them later (but not actually during the game)?

If you haven't seen gameplay from the E3 demo in awhile you might want to checkout my videos at http://themushroomkingdom.net/smg_e3-06.shtml

We made sure to run through each level to be able to record the boss battles. Awesome. Checkout all the impressions on a lot of other game sites too.

After reviewing some video and impression I can say I absolutely have no doubts about SMG.

Jungle Beat absolutely rocked so... no.

Throw in some planets with some classic platforming a la the Sunshine FLUDD-less levels and this game could be one of the best Mario games ever.

I want this in 3d

A map like mario world would fine. and koopa kids, pleease koopa kids. Instead of airships, they could have space ships!

The fourth video, the one that shows off the moves, is great. I really like the looks of the wall kick; it's like NSMB where you can slide down the wall. The unadulterated fun of running and jumping with Mario was made somewhat stilted by the water pack; floating casually down onto a platform always felt kind of cheap. SMG really looks like it will bring back that pure feeling of running Mario around.

The art design and game play design are going to be frickin fantastic. I think this will blow Zelda out of the water in every technical department. Gameplay Mario will also likely come away feeling much more revolutionary and fun on the Wii than Twiligh Princess.

This will be EAD's best game ever. Well i hope....

Yeah, I'm worried. I mean, the game has wonderful art, graphics, and music (so far), but I'm hoping there's more than just teeny tiny planet hopping. My man, Tezuka said that they COULD make large worlds if they wanted to, but that to me sounded like Koji Kondo with saying they COULD have orchestrated music in TP.

It may be a great game, but I'm still not totally convinced yet that it'll be super awesome.

Really, I just wanted Super Mario 3/World in 3D. With one continous world to explore. But alas.

And LOL @ the Mario 64 hate.

EAD really needs to impress me. So far we have two very under-developed games (Wii Sports, Wii Play) and a GameCube port.

I kind of do, but that's because I was extremely disappointed in Super Mario Sunshine and New Super Mario Bros. I'm still very willing to give the game a try, but I'll probably rent first.

You would think that it would be technically better than Twilight Princess considering its not a gamecube title, but then i cant really say that about anything else on the wii can i?

How could you not have doubts after playing sunshine?

Because Sunshine was an very well made game and super fun.

The slamming it gets is pretty much baseless.

If you didn't have fun playing it, you are a complete asshole.

I cant stand statements like this.

:lol :lol :lol

Baseless slamming? Ok then.

I might be an asshole, but judging from your name - you are a piece of shit.

Unfortunately I can't really use any other example can I? Zelda on Wii is so bitter-sweet. Wii Sports textures blow the game out the water.. and that hurts :( I wish Nintendo tried a little harder on the production and Wii port of Zelda.

On GameCube it would have been awesome...

Just in case everyone doesn't want to read the whole thread, I can sum it up for you:

People who have actually played the game: No doubts.

People who have not played the game: My opinion matters too apparently!

People who weren't going to buy the game anyway/have nothing better to do with their time: As you can see from the insufficient color ratio found in the pathetic Mario Sunshine,

lol. The criticisms agains Sunshine are hardly 'baseless', dood. I didn't think it was bad, really. Still a good game, but really undelivered on many aspects.

Also, we haven't seen any in Galaxy yet, but there sure as **** better be some awesome powerups in it.
