is the fantastic beast and his sequel any good for harry potter fans?
or they are just stupid cash grab comedies??
thanks.
I enjoyed the first film but the 2nd was dreadfully boring.
Amistad - blu ray
I have finally watched Spielberg's entire filmography except for The Colour Purple.
Enjoyed this a lot and thought that Djimon Hounsou was bloody excellent in it. Mathew McConaughey is the other main star of the film and he does a good job too. Anthony Hopkins is in it but not too much. The movie is set in 1839 and is about a slave ship called the La Amistad and the slaves on board. It's essentially a court room drama. Great watch.
The Dress Maker - blu ray
Made by Australia director Jocelyn Moorhouse and with a pretty much all Australian cast except for the main actor Kate Winslet.
It's about a woman returning to her home town after many years. she was sent away as a child for something she did that was very bad.
Enjoyable, funny and a bit sad, it has a very Australian feel to it and I enjoyed it a lot. It made me laugh a lot and made my heart hurt in other areas. I found it fun to watch but it won't be for everyone.
Blackkklansman - Netflix
Directed by Spike Lee and a great little film. I loved John David Washington in this and can't wait to see him in Tenet. Adam Driver is also obviously amazing in this.
I do think that the advertising for this was misleading though. The trailer makes it seem like a comedy and yeah, there are comedic moments but the topic on hand is pretty serious.
For those that don't know it's about a black man trying to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan to investigate them.
Crash - blu ray
Lot's of big actors in this film. It's about a bunch of stories that cross each other. Some of the stories were interesting (like Ryan Phillipe and Matt Dillon's story) and others felt pointless (like Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser's story). Some of the stories feel as though they are resolved, others don't. I wasn't a big fan of it and probably won't watch it again.
Blood Diamond - blu ray
Very solid film by Edward Zwick, fast paced, interesting characters and pretty well done action.
Djimon Hounsou is great again and Leonardo Decaprio is just ok. When I first watched this in 2006 I didn't have much exposure to South African accents and so I didn't care for Leonardo's accent but now that I work with many South African's I know his accent is bloody awful.
Beasts of no Nation - Netflix
Watched this film because of Blood Diamond. I think I hyped this film up way too much for myself, heard so many great things. I finally watch it and it's just .... ok.
Actors were great all around, and it was interesting seeing this type of story from within the terrorists point of view and how their members are indoctrinated. I just didn't have any connection to any of the characters and ultimate didn't care about what was happening on screen.
Mississipi Grind - Google Play
From the same directors as Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and they did really well here, much better directed than Captain Marvel. I love seeing Ryan Reynalds in his more serious roles. Ben Mendelsohn was also steller in this, great Aussie actor. It's basically a gambling addiction film, Ben's character meets Ryan's character and they become good friends. Ben's character almost becomes infuriating but not to the same point as Uncut Gems. In this, Ben's character makes you feel sorry for him and you sympathise with him where as Adam Sandler's character was just a douche and I hated him. They are of course extremely different films but I liked this much better than Uncut Gems.
