Anyone still play the 3DS?

It's 2025 but the 3DS is still an excellent console.

I have the "new" 3DS XL - the last iteration. Over the years, I got pretty much all the iterations but then sold the older one when I got the new one.

I recently brushed it off to play a bit of Fantasy Life, pending the release of the new Fantasy Life game in late May. Then I started a second playthrough of Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker ("DS2"). Devil Survivor Overclocked ("DS1") is one of my favorite games ever. DS2 has more polished presentation and a bit better game mechanics, but trails DS1 is atmosphere and story. Still a great game though. Fully voice-acted which is impressive.

The form factor of the "new" 3DS is excellent. I like the clamshell. It's light. It's almost pocketable. The battery lasts a long time. The screens are nice. No 3D gimmick which I like to avoid so I don't go cross-eyed. The engine under the hood is a bit more powerful than the previous iterations, so it runs 3DS games snappily. The two screens work well in the kinds of games I like (SRPG's in particular).

My interest in video games is rather niche and the 3DS has a lot of games that interest me (turn-based SRPG's and JRPG's).

A while back I tried playing Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on my Playstation Portable, but sadly the battery had bulged. I guess at some point the battery will leak/bulge in my 3DS and kill it.

Yeah I still use mine. It's library is insane especially with DS backwards compatibility. I hate playing DS and 3DS on emulators too. It always looks stupid.

First game I played on the 3DS was Majora's mask, I remember them changing small things like the way a boss fight moves (water temple), I supported PSP during those Nintendo ds days.

I think the new 3DS XL was released 10 years ago. But it doesn't feel 10 years old. It could have been released this year and would still be excellent. Yes there's not much internet with it, but so what.

My "New" 3DS is the only handheld I play.

Amazing library and the hardware itself is so sleek. It really feels like a premium product in the hands (especially next to the 2DS). Love it.

Bought mine mostly for SMT IV but ended up playing many games. Still have it around, but I haven't played on it in quite a while.

No, but now i have to check the battery.. :messenger_fearful: I removed my PSP battery in time, it bulged and literally exploded. Bought a new one.
3DS has some gems, i remember to be addicted to Culdcept Revolt.

Probably a good time to actually play something on it. Every time I turned that thing on there were street passes, so most of the time were going through those.

I love the 3DS. Have two of the New 3DS XL and couple of DSi XLs. 3DS and DS games always have felt best played on actual hardware.

Also, for 3DS, DS and PSP, it's easy to change out the battery.

Still carry it alongside a Vita, the last of the portable handhelds. Love the new 3DS XL I got, the 3D is really smooth on it so gets a lot of use as someone that enjoys stereoscopic. 3DS has a pretty awesome library to boot.

No, I just don't have the time. It's a lovely little system though.

I wish we could get a HD remake of A Link Between Worlds and Kid Icarus Uprising. I'd love to re-play those two with some improvements.

No, I played everything I wanted to on the system. Which was mostly SMT games.
It was only a good system only because nearly all the games were exclusive to it.
I would never go back to it for the hardware, it was ass. And I'll never miss playing Monster Hunter on that piece of shit.

Love it and still play it, although you lost me when you said you disable the 3D effect... so sad

That's the main miracle of the system for me that makes it stand out. To this day it's the best small handheld on the market IMO, because nothing else has that effect. It turns "I'm looking at a small screen" immediately into "I'm looking through a small window into a larger diorama or world behind it," total game changer. I'd rather have a 3D screen at the 3DS resolution than a 720p+ handheld 2d display, no question.

If Sega put out a 3DS type handheld (can be single screen) that consisted solely of a ton of M2 ports of their classics with stereoscopic 3D, it'd be an instant buy for me.

Best versions of all of those games.
Yep, M3 ports were amazing. Got all the ones that released in NA.

The Switch feels dated for me. Games can struggle on it. Hence the huge demand for the Switch 2.

Whereas 3DS games play great on the 3DS, at least the ones I play. The 3DS to me does not feel dated or antique.

Nope. Always thought about getting an XL though. Then again emulation…
No emulator does the 3DS or DS games as well as original hardware.

BTT: yeah, I still play my 3DS from time to time. Currently Mrs. vodka-bull borrowed it for her daily dose of animal crossing, but I take back the ownership whenever I need a nice handheld outside. New 3DS XL.

I also would recommend New 3DS or New 3DS XL vs 2DS since some games do benefit from 3D.

I've got 12 3DSes. Yes, I have TWELVE of them. Don't ask me why, it's probably not worth explaining.

But for some reason, I have a favorite that I haven't been able to find for like a year. So I've been actually kind of jonesing to play 3DS lately, but I want to find my primary one, and I truly can't be arsed to set up one of my other ones with my account and all the games and shit.

i've been visiting my animal crossing: wild world town on it for 10 minutes twice a day since 2005. also have some downloads (smt:iv, majora's mask) on it...

Yes, the auto stereoscopic gimmick was fantastic and felt like a truly new gen feature at the time that still holds well, for example it is the best way to play Bravely Default; the game comes alive like a painterly diorama, chefs kiss...

Not really, i don't find it comfortable to hold so I rarely reach for it.

However, I really want to get a New 3DS XL for the improved 3D while it's still around. I like 3D, and 3D screens seem to not be on a path to try another comeback any time soon. Modding it seems promising.

I have mine ready for Chrono trigger and Dragon Quest 7.
So much to play.
Oh, and I quite enjoy Yo-kai watch.
So much I still want on that incredible handheld.

Every once in a while, I'll charge up my 3DS and play some Pushmo I'm so close to completed all the challenges.

Oh hey, 3DS thread

My friend yesterday boot his 3DS, and this sparks some interest to replay the 3ds games.

I once interested in labyrinth rpg which made by konami, and they got fan translation few years ago. I think its the time to play dungeon crawler once more.

The game is interesting as we are playing as parties of gamers playing games in multiplayer and suddenly their screen is hacked by the otherworldly dungeon. And the girl is asking for help to restore the dungeon. Unfortunately konami did not take it overseas.

I have some 3DS games in my backlog and a new 3DS XL to play them on, Nintendo sold it to me refurbed for an ungodly cheap amount at the end of its days. I enjoy it, but I didn't have that much love for the DS or 3DS, I really liked the GBA better and the Switch blew everything else away. If more games come to Switch/Switch 2 I won't have a need for it.

I never bought a 3DS and I'm still waiting for the Metroid 2 remake to come to Switch. Playing that game on the OG Gsmeboy is one of my earliest gaming memories.

Mine used to be a dedicated Theatrhythm machine. I mean, it still is, but it used to be too.

Enjoyed it way more than Switch.

On Switch am mostly avoiding any experimental purchases due to high game prices. Already purchased a couple of expensive duds.

3ds experience was so much better.

I've been trying to work my way through OOT lately, but I think I'm going to drop it for the umpteenth time. I am going to play through A Link Between Worlds though.

I still have OG ambassador 3DS - but my eyesight became pretty bad, (old eyes) - so I've been having hard time playing it for the later part of 3DS era. (same goes to Vita, and to certain extent, Switch and Steam Deck too. :()

I do have a couple of games I'd like to play (I think I have a few games in wrap)... so one of these days, when I get a good prescription glass for old folks, I wish I'll jump back in!

Still play my 2DSXL all the time. Got it soft modded with all sorts of goodies. Also have a R4 cart loaded with og DS games. It's a really unique experience playing games built for both portability and dual screens.

The screens on my new 3DS trigger migraines (my OG blue one didn't do this) so sadly it's now kept in my wardrobe in a case.

Might sell it as they go for a couple of hundred quid nowadays.
