It's 2025 but the 3DS is still an excellent console.
I have the "new" 3DS XL - the last iteration. Over the years, I got pretty much all the iterations but then sold the older one when I got the new one.
I recently brushed it off to play a bit of Fantasy Life, pending the release of the new Fantasy Life game in late May. Then I started a second playthrough of Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker ("DS2"). Devil Survivor Overclocked ("DS1") is one of my favorite games ever. DS2 has more polished presentation and a bit better game mechanics, but trails DS1 is atmosphere and story. Still a great game though. Fully voice-acted which is impressive.
The form factor of the "new" 3DS is excellent. I like the clamshell. It's light. It's almost pocketable. The battery lasts a long time. The screens are nice. No 3D gimmick which I like to avoid so I don't go cross-eyed. The engine under the hood is a bit more powerful than the previous iterations, so it runs 3DS games snappily. The two screens work well in the kinds of games I like (SRPG's in particular).
My interest in video games is rather niche and the 3DS has a lot of games that interest me (turn-based SRPG's and JRPG's).
A while back I tried playing Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on my Playstation Portable, but sadly the battery had bulged. I guess at some point the battery will leak/bulge in my 3DS and kill it.
