Apple iPad 2 |OT|

Got a 32GB WiFi-only iPad 2 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm really loving it so far.
Also, the Digital AV Adapter is cool, shame that not all apps have proper support for it...
Only disappointing thing is that I got it with AppleCare, and it's only valid for the US and Canada D:

As a musician, I think this is the stupidest thing ever. No more useful than a time-wasting app.
Guess I won't take your music career seriously then!
the guy in the video is Jordan Rudess, a really really amazing keyboard player and musician

Just bought a 32GB Black iPad 2(Wifi only), and I picked up this case. Will be here on Wednesday. I will be sure to give my feedback on it, thanks for the recommendation of it.
So...ironically, I dropped my messenger bag this morning, hard. iPad was in a well padded sleeve inside the bag, and it's fine, but the corners of the Acase cover chipped. It won't stay on anymore.

It's only $12, so maybe I'll order another one. Or maybe I'll just go back to the smart cover by itself. Not sure.

Sounds like the case did its job and you should invest in another asap.

I guess. My sleeve is really well padded, it's the Ultimate sleeve from Waterfield, so I have no doubts the iPad itself would have been fine regardless. Anythings possible, though.

They're so cheap, I might order another one anyway.

EDIT: I ordered another one. Lol.

What are some good cases for the iPad 2? I'd like something simple that covers the front and back. If the case offered a few viewing angles that would be nice too. I've checked Amazon, Best Buy, and Target and haven't had any luck.

Yoobao iSmart - Pretty much a Smart Cover that protects the front and back.

Yoobao slim leather case - Even slimmer than the case above but does not offer as much protection.

Yoobao leather case - The stand on this one is more stable than the stand on the other the two above.

Bought a used iPad 2 recently from amazon and it came with a dead pixel. I decided to go to the apple store, and they gave me an entirely new one no charge. The perk in all of this is that a new iPad with tax is about $550, but I spent $513 on mine (the $13 is shipping cost). So that was pretty amazing. Other than that I bought Procreate for drawing, garageband for music, scriptwriting software, and pages. I have the TED app, evernote, simplemind+, and pocket cloud.

Are there any other apps I should get? I'll probably buy numbers and keynote soon.

I sold my 4th gen iPod touch in anticipation for what's coming up within the next month or so in terms of new models.

Inevitably I'm drawn to the iPad. My main concern is portability. I love the Touch because I can just put it in my pocket or listen to podcasts in the car, get a quick game in while at a local library or something, check email on campus where I work....

...for you guys who have iPads, how portable is the device? In what situations do you use it while out of the house? Do you use it at work? etc. Is it too large to carry with you or is it no big deal? Just curious.

i was close of buying a ipad 2 today but i decided to wait for the ipad3.

will there ever be flash on apple devices?

I know this is old news, and I've said it before, but man, the official Twitter app has -- by far -- the best multi-touch UI I have ever had the pleasure of using. It's just fantastic.

I picked up an iPad on Saturday and I completely agree. It's perfect.

It's not officially out yet. The code is in place, but Facebook hasn't "flipped the switch" yet. No idea what Facebook is waiting for.

The only way to turn the iPad version on is by editing the info.plist file for Facebook.app and you can't access that without jailbreaking.
I did on the Mac, I even changed the UIDFamily stuff to "2" on the Mac and copying it to the iPad. On his blog, it mentions how to do it through the Mac with iPhoneExplorer, but I read you need a jailbroken device for it to work yea.

I'm looking for a simple man bag type thing that can hold my iPad and 3DS comfortably.

I want something that is a little more sturdy than a simple soft bag type thing. I'd also like it to have a handle on top, sort of like a mini briefcase. I'd also like it to cost less than $100, and preferably less than $50.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. I live in the U.S.

If the iPod touch doesn't get updated this year (i.e., only difference is that Apple makes a white model but still retains the A4 and 256MB ram) as is rumored....I'm just going to wait for the iPad 3.

Been using the Facebook iPad app. Very nice.
Anything special that you did?

I installed the iPhone app and grabbed fullforce from Cydia. The login comes up at the correct resolution but it won't allow me to login.

Why would they not update the touch? It's their entry level iOS device.

Right. To me it's obvious. However, there have been various rumors about there just being an incremental update (if any).

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...white_ipod_touch_but_few_changes_in_2011.html

Unlike years past when Apple updated the iPhone in the summer, met initial demand, and only then began sharing components with the iPod touch in the fall, this year's iPhone refresh has been pushed inline with that of the iPod touch.

"[The] iPhone and iPad have higher priority to get shared components of iOS devices when the supply chain is tight (especially after the Japan quake)," Kuo said, suggesting that Apple has such high expectations for the fifth-generation iPhone that it may not be confident it could secure enough components to introduce a similarly-equipped iPod touch around the same time.

Looking into the current third calendar quarter, Kuo said checks indicate Apple has placed orders for white iPod touch models that are expected to go into mass production sometime in late August, but he added that the build plans for those models reflect few, if any, distinguishable changes from the existing black models introduced last fall.

"It means no spec update of iPod touch this year," he said.

Plus, only reference to a iPod 4,2 have been spotted in the iOS 5 beta (even the iPad 3 is mentioned). No mention of iPod 5,1 while next gen iPhone and iPad models have been mentioned.

We'll see though. I'm still tempted to just hold out for iPad 3 anyways.

lol. that's kinda pointless from them.

have you tried a user-agent changer?

Probably a really dumb question, but is there any way to instantly jump to the bottom of a page without scrolling? I know that tapping the top of the screen brings you back to the top of the page, but I don't know if it's possible to do the opposite.

Not in Safari. Alternative browsers like iCab can be configured with guestures though.

Not that I know of. If you mean for GAF, the webapp has a button.

Something that kind of bugs me about iOS devices is the bunch of "other" data that is unnecessary, and thus bloats your system.

Some of it is save data, sure, but I'm positive some of it is just junk. When I had 3GB of other, I just restored and recreated my iPad via backup, and everything was fine (my comics disappeared from comixology, but whatever), but I recovered over 2GB of space.

You can see it creeping up every time you sync as well. I just restored again after probably several months and recovered 1 GB of space.

Are there any good "egg timer" and "alarm clock" apps for the iPad that are like Apple's own iPhone Clock app and will still show a push notification when you're in another app or the device is asleep? Preferably free or cheap.

I had an idea a while back about a stylus design but never had the time or motivation to pursue it...but luckily someone else had the same idea! I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet, it appears to be as awesome as I had hoped:

(that said I'm kind of annoyed that the they don't have a magnetic clip on both models, I don't care about the price...I just hate rubber grips on pens)

There's been rumors of a cheaper unsubsidized iPhone, not sure if it'd be cheap enough to commandeer the upper iPod range, basically be like iPod 3Gs if you never get cell service.

Probably a dumb question, but if you don't do the update for Kindle and Kobo, would you still be able to use their in-app online stores?

With Kindle it's not an "online store" as much as a link to the website. You can still do that after the update.

There sure is. You just need this bookmarklet:

http://ipuhelin.com/en/safariplus/__e__#javascript:scroll(0,document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].scrollHeight);

The directions are for iPhone, but it works the same.

I was looking for an app that did both of those things too. I've been using Alarmed for two months now with no problems --replacing the functionality of my iPod Touch as an alarm clock/timer.

Alarmed, free

Edit: And yes it pushes/wakes on the device.

When does apple generally update their store for iTunes app store? I'd be nice for the Facebook app to come out officially.

I think it works more or less without a schedule. When an app is approved, it is released on an app to app basis, unless the dev wants it to be held until a certain date.

sometimes you can see a bunch of similar apps released at once, so it seems like an approved of that category has gone through the latest batch and approved them.

There doesn't seem to be any one moment when the store is updated.
