Good goodness, Consumer reports. I can find 10 websites that have far better review of the ipad 2 than yours.

just read this on twitter

"We didn't notice any quality improvement in Consumer Reports' iOS device coverage"

If you're on a mac, then just use the Image Capture app.

They don't show up on Image Capture that's the problem... Image Capture only shows pictures that were TAKEN with the iPad but not those that were previously imported.

If you own a MacBook Air, then I can't think of a single excuse you'd need for an iPad. Unless you're rich.

what bout using it as a sketch pad?

and no its not a $700 sketch pad - you can draw your designs on the ipad and then import them on to your computer. whereas with a standard laptop, its hard to draw with a mouse.

You don't need to use a mouse with the MBA. There is already the TrackPad and you can get a Wacom peripheral for much cheaper than an iPad with much better results. Kindle for the Mac is now available and folks have been reading comics on their computers long before the iPad was even in development. *shrug* It's like asking a gamer why he owns more than one console. The only real answer is "because he can."

An iPad is a far, far better reading device than a MacBook of any variety. But if you want to develop iOS apps, a MacBook is almost a necessity...

My rationale is that the iPad meets entertainment/casual uses whereas a Desktop is a more powerful machine that meets professional uses.

Laptops singe your pubes and prevent you from making children, so it's not really practical to use as a entertainment machine.
It's also (typically) significantly less powerful than a desktop so not entirely practical for professional uses.

After reflection, my conclusion is that laptops caught on because of their size. People didn't want a giant ass monitor and big tower, especially when they wanted to move around.
Now both monitors and the units themselves are much smaller (as small as a Mac Mini for example, while larger machines offer customization and bigger specs).

Of course, there are several professions that need laptops and netbooks.
However these professions typically lend themselves to be in word-processing based industries where mobility is important and travel is common.

You've seen a split in the space/computer continuum about entertainment devices and professional devices. Some industries need desktops, some need laptops & netbooks, some need both.

TL;DR: But generally speaking in the consumer market, the iPad has made laptops obsolete.

Wow. Came home today from work. iPad 2 appears completely dead. Finally turns on, but...weird...still a 79% charge. That's really low considering how little I used it today.

So I bought the Project Magazine app and it's really awesome. At only $.99 an issue it's great. Interactive images, videos, links, quizzes, etc. It really feels like a magazine of the future.

I really hope all magazines catch onto this and compete with similar prices. $.99 an issue is just crazy. Aywhere from $.99 - $2.99 per monthly issue sounds about right

What's worse is that while Conde Nast (or however you spell it) acknowledges that magazine sales are not living up to expectations, they have just raised prices across the board. I am not paying 5 bucks a week for The New Yorker.

For those looking for protectors for the back of their iPad 2, DODOcase just release the Bookback for iPad 2, which covers the back with a leathery material:

$20.
Ugh. The trend toward back covers that are not edge to edge is leading me to really think about leaving mine naked.

EDIT:
Rather then shit on the options posted, I'll add and say the iCarbons.com model is looking the best, IMO:

The Loopj app for the ipad is such an addictive app. I plan to use some mixes as background music for my imovies.

Is there a way for the iPad to access files through an AirDisk attached to an Airport Extreme's USB port? Seems a good way to get around having to have a computer on all the time to feed it files.

Has anyone here run into a problem where YouTube videos won't play in safari but will play fine in the dedicated app? I'm getting nothing but audio when I try to watch videos on the actual website.

Pardon me if this has been posted before, but the mirroring feature of the iPad 2 is amazing. The best part is hearing sound come out of your TV speakers for the game. Can't wait for my $4 HDMI cable to get here from monoprice so I can play from my couch. Shit just got real. I wonder what reading a Kindle book would be like on a 40" TV.

Only way I can think of is by turning on SMB sharing on it, then using a SMB browser app on the iPad. Might be some problems with this, like some ISPs block the SMB port (cause it's a possible security risk), I forget if you can change the port on the Airport.

Oh my good lord I cannot believe that air video was only 3 bucks. Shit plays basically everything I threw at it and my jaw dropped when I was playing a dual audio video with subtitles and it allowed me to pick my audio streams and apply the separate sub files. Incredible. Also, the virtual keyboard on this thing is awesome, i haven't even had my iPad for more than a day and I'm already using it like a normal keyboard without looking at it as I type up things
Iike this post.

I'm using my iPad a lot more than I thought I would. Once I get everything set up like how I want it I don't know if I'm going to be using my laptop that much. The more I'm thinking about it I might just go ahead and return this in the next 13 days and get the iPad 2 from best buy after all >_>.

Turns out my old wallpaper doesn't look quite as good on my white iPad :( any wallpaper suggestions? I'm looking for something that looks good on white basically. I've been searching around but no luck so far.

Was it worse trying to get a hold of an iPhone 4 post-launch or trying to get a hold of an iPad 2 now?

Comparable?
Probably similar this soon afterwards, but I think there were more to begin with...not to mention less variability. There were just two iPhone models (black 16 and 32GB) vs 18 iPad models (16/32/64, wifi/Verizon/AT&T, black/white).

I didn't know sausages were units of time.

That said, my iPad 2 should be here within three sausages according to FedEx tracking.

Yes, they also had higher yields because the iPad already got the A4 processor production going. There are reports that the A5 has lower yields.

Freaking sweet! going to borrow my sister's ipad tomorrow.
Remember that there are some shitty requirements (which I saw after I posted). For example, your IP address has to be a Time Warner IP address.

Ah well. Once more into the breach tomorrow morning. Gonna give 14th Street a shot this time.

On the bright side, iPad hunting at 730am is making me much more punctual for work.

Amazing that that looks as good as a regular console game on a TV!
Ipad 2 has as much ram as the 360/PS3 now and with both GPU and CPU likely to improve with every revision. I wouldn't be surprised if it exceeds the power of consoles before we see the PS4.
