Yes, they also had higher yields because the iPad already got the A4 processor production going. There are reports that the A5 has lower yields.

Remember that there are some shitty requirements (which I saw after I posted). For example, your IP address has to be a Time Warner IP address.
I have TWC... thankfullly*barf*

3 days after launch... over 1 month wait time.

Ah well. Once more into the breach tomorrow morning. Gonna give 14th Street a shot this time.

On the bright side, iPad hunting at 730am is making me much more punctual for work.
So early? Doesn't it open at 9?

Oh my good lord I cannot believe that air video was only 3 bucks. Shit plays basically everything I threw at it and my jaw dropped when I was playing a dual audio video with subtitles and it allowed me to pick my audio streams and apply the separate sub files. Incredible. Also, the virtual keyboard on this thing is awesome, i haven't even had my iPad for more than a day and I'm already using it like a normal keyboard without looking at it as I type up things
Iike this post.

I'm using my iPad a lot more than I thought I would. Once I get everything set up like how I want it I don't know if I'm going to be using my laptop that much. The more I'm thinking about it I might just go ahead and return this in the next 13 days and get the iPad 2 from best buy after all >_>.

Welcome to the club. I swear by AirVideo. It has played absolutely everything I've thrown at it. It's the best $3 anyone can spend on streaming videos off a network.

After the ridiculous line I saw at 5th Avenue this morning (like 150 ppl easy), I'm not taking any chances :)

If no one's there I'll get a coffee at Chelsea Market and come back.

My 64GB black wifi should be here tomorrow. :-)

After getting $150 for my spot in line at the Apple Store a couple days ago, then finding a 16GB machine and reselling locally for another bit of profit, I felt ok with paying a slight premium online for one now.

So I got it for only about $60 more than what I would have paid with tax, and got overnight shipping to boot.

(better not be a box of rocks....)

Ipad 2 has as much ram as the 360/PS3 now and with both GPU and CPU likely to improve with every revision. I wouldn't be surprised if it exceeds the power of consoles before we see the PS4.
I look forward to iPad 4 and it's (hopefully) PowerVR Series 6 GPU...Imagination hasn't revealed much other than saying that it's 20-100x faster than current quad cores. And the A15 CPU appears to be a bigger jump over the A9 than that was over the A8. 2013-2014 could be ridiculous for mobile computing.

So I guess the international launch on the 25th will be pushed?

Probably depends on how much NAND they stockpiled and how the chinese shipping lanes are doing. (I don't think Apple has any components single-sourced to Japan.)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was still a go for most of their target countries given how far in advance they need to deliver stock, but Apple has been known to miss release dates before.

So, I've run into some issues with my iPad. How do I highlight text when it's been spoilered? Also, sometimes, on forums if I reply and quote the post i'm replying to, if the text is too long, I'm not able to scroll within the posting box. Is there away to do that?

Two-finger scroll within the text box. Secondapps.com/neogaf for spoiler text.

So I was just thinking, if I have an iPhone 4 and a mac or an iPad and someone wanted to facetime chat with me they would have to try both my phone number and my email, assuming they know which email I associated with my facetime account.

I feel like facetime needs a big overhaul, I should be able to add friends to a list that can tell me if their online and if it's on their phone or whatever. Basically I just want ichat I think.

Gotta say, Apple really boned this launch up. I feel like they've been concentrating more on generating long lines than on treating consumers well, which is very un-Apple-y.

Face Time is needlessly complicated. You’re absolutely correct that the interface and functionality of iChat should be what it’s modeled after. I’d be interested to learn how many people actually make use of it in its current form.

The whole point of face time is that it's less like an online chat and more like a phone.

I have it on my mac, and people can call me when no app is open, it just starts ringing.

The biggest market for netbooks, from what I've seen, has been students and I don't think the touch screen keyboard will be an adequate enough replacement for said persons. I'd be surprised if anyone bought a netbook for media consumption and email; its a cheap alternative to a laptop, sought after productivity junks. I would say the iPad is somewhere between a laptop and a netbook

Has the color from anyone's leather Smart Cover bled onto your clothes?

Been hearing reports of this, along with the cover leaving the vertical line smudges from the creases on the screen that need to be wiped off after.

fair enough. wasn't pointing out an argument. ipad sales have eaten up netbook sales not laptop ones.

Got my shipping email this morning. Should be in my hands by Friday. Really glad I set the alarm for 4:00 A.M last Friday.

Feeling a bit of buyers remorse- after seeing it in pics I'm starting to think I should have gotten the white instead of the old standby black. Ahh well, still can't wait!

Honestly, I think they just wanted to get it on sale ASAP without sufficient stocks. I think they felt just enough pressure that they wanted to say it's on sale next week instead of next month.

For those who ordered online: apparently if you got your unit engraved, those are being produced and shipped from China (a very few of them are already getting delivered), whereas non-engraved units will ship from US stock that's being held until the 18th for some reason.

haha holy shit! I was there at like 8:20 and it wasn't that long yet (I don't think). I will say the staff was really cool. They went up to all of us in line to give a count of what they had in stock so we didn't waste our time.

Ahh that makes sense.

Amazing what a few minutes difference makes. I got my order in at 1:04 AM PT whereas a number of you apparently set your alarms earlier and got orders in at 12:58 AM or so. Those have apparently been shipping. Mine still hasn't!

"Not yet shipped" haunts me.

I'm really glad I set my alarm. IIRC the shipping was already at 2-3 weeks by like 8 A.M. Friday.

My order is in at 12:58, but it hasn't shipped yet since it's (a) 64GB and (b) non-engraved; those factors slow it down considerably, it seems.

Fellow iPad owners .. if I wanted to replace my zune with an apple mp3 player (iphone not an option) should it be the iPod Touch or the iPod Classic?

I did not get mine engraved, and it was shipped from China.

Depends on how much space you want, really.

iPod Touch has more options. Just considering music, you would have access to all the streaming services, internet radio, and iTunes Home Sharing. iPod Classic is MP3 only, but it has more storage.

I've created a virtual of Snow Leopard using VMWare, but I can't seem to get SL to recognize my iPad. I really want to enable Multigestures on the iPad.

Does anyone here have any experience with running a virtual of OSX and passing through USB devices from the host to the virtual?

Downtown SF store says they have a huge shipment in today and will open at 9am. I'm up early, will get there around 8:15am. I drive a motorcycle so I don't have to worry about parking but it is raining so that kind of sucks to wait out there.

That should popup when you connect the iPad while the VM is running. Not the option to "remember my choice and not ask again", maybe that was ticked before when connecting the iPad to the Mac? Or perhaps you haven't installed VMWare tools in the VM yet... ?

How do I go about installing VMWare tools on the Virtual?

Run the VM, waiting until booting is completed, then that Menu item should be available.

You are running the VMware on a Mac, right? You should ask in the Mac thread

My main computer is a Win 7 box. I'm running VM Workstation on it which is running Snow Leopard. Whenever I go to VM [Menu] -> Install VMWare Tools I get an error

"Could not fix component on update server. Contact VMWare Support or your system administrator."

Oh, I didn't encounter that problem. I'm running Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion on a Mac. I was able to unlock the gestures through that VM though... Is it only the iPad that won't connect or every other usb device isn't recognized by the VM as well? Well I'm out of my depth here, good luck.
