So I got the iPad and the poly case in blue...
To me, not much different than the 1g iPad minus the camera and the case is a little cumbersome.

Weird... I was so excited for this
That's why I went with white this time because I had the first one and the truth is there really isn't a wow factor to the new one if you were a previous owner. I'm sitting here thinking of things to do with the new one but the primary purpose the iPad serves for me is just to sit around and play with it while I watch tv.

But every time I pick it up it feels so much better than the first generation.

So I use BeejiveIM on my iPhone for AIM/G-Mail/FaceBook chat .. why isn't the iPad version rated as highly?

It also looks like it hasn't even been updated since November -- really? For a $10 app? There's more support for $0.99 apps.

So what app is the best for instant messaging?

Buy carcassonne the iPad version is fucking amazing. I aM going to use this app to show off to friends. Just spent 30 minutes playing and god it's so good. Ten dollars is the right price for the quality they put in to the app.

Im having light leakage too, I noticed it right away without even knowing it was drying that could even happen. It's not really a big deal but I'll exchange it when I can.

Faster JavaScript engine and appears to be other web improvements (The Big Picture actually loads everything it seems), physical switch can be set to rotation lock again, Home Sharing lets you stream your iTunes music/videos on your LAN, and probably some other little things I forgot about.

edit-AirPlay supported in 3rd party apps now too.

Wait. Beejive isn't a universal app? And it costs $10? And they want you to buy both? Goddamn, that's the worst shit ever.

Forgot to mention that the iPad 2 is awesome! I love it! Currently loving the following Apps:

Plants vs Zombies HD
Scrabble for iPad
carcassonne
Flipboard
TED
Brushes
Animation HD
World of Goo
Wesnoth HD

Brushes runs much smoother than it did on the 1st gen iPad

I know right?

Though I'm curious about that -- what stops developers from making 2 separate apps vs. one universal one? Is it just to try and get more money for people to buy both? Or are certain apps unable to be made universal? I don't get that process.

Nah. The PC era is coming to an end and one much compete with mobile devices if you want to be relevant 10 years from now. Motorola is doing the right thing - the issue is that Google still has a ways to go before they are REALLY ready to compete with what Apple offers. Ecosystems are a bitch to get around. Apple learned that lesson when competing with Microsoft and they are using that very knowledge/experience to compete with everyone else.
I thought tablets were still going melee with books?

Jesus.

Any app can be universal. It's completely up to the developer.

Personally I think any company that doesn't just make a universal version instead of charging for two versions is just trying to make more money. And I wish I could give Rovio a piece of my mind for Angry Birds. Which is pretty much the same exact app on both devices with no differences at all. Yet you have to pay more to get both of them.

dammit , the imovie app doesn't work on ipad 1 ? lame.
I am trying to not spend 600 dollars again after a year.
dammit apple

What would you use iMovie for on the original iPad since it has no camera?

I just went to the beautiful girls thread, it's the most pic heavy I could find on the front page, and it completely loaded, no question marks. Flipped around my other pages, no flushing at all.

Jesus, how?

Safari, electronic books that came with the text books. I study for a lot of IT-related certifications, so vendors like Cisco (but they stopped), Sybex, M$, etc throw e-books of their stuff with the test-engine CDs.

But...I guess I can throw movies on this thing. The only thing is how finicky is it with .AVIs? I don't want to have to recode them. I guess with the music, ebooks, apps, I MIGHT fill up 32GBs.

excellent.

so, now time for the bigass big picture test.

load up multiple big picture tabs, one at a time, and see how long until images stop showing up on new page loads.

old iPad would stop loading images after around 25 or so. (back on iOS 3, anyway)

then, once new images stop loading, go back to the first tab and see if it automatically reloads.

please? I'm quite curious.

edit: some IB comparisons

That's good to hear.

I said I wouldn't get one but I lied. Getting a refund of a laptop I bought, I realized I don't need a full computer for lounging in bed when my full bitchin desktop is 5 feet away.

Yea that was my transition. I had an old shitty laptop and wanted a desktop to be comfortable and work on for hours. So I bought a desktop and then the iPad 1. Will not be getting another laptop.

There's a workaround without jailbreaking I think on gizmodo or engadget this morning so no your not screwed lol

I loaded 3 full pages of 35-40 pictures each with no flushing, not including the original page. The 4th page triggered a flush when I went back to the original page. Everything loaded, though. So 100 pics give or take. Vast improvement in performance.

fantastic. thanks for taking the time.

The main weakness of the iPad as a browser is now a thing of the past.

Now go here for hundreds of gifs

http://neogaf.webs.com/

lol, jk. don't go there - I wouldn't want your iPad to melt in your hands

edit: eh, nvm. the gifs don't all load on the index page. I thought they did last time I went there.

This cannot be stressed enough, the iPad 2 is just so much nicer to hold than the original iPad. The thin profile and the weight distribution is just perfect. So glad that I jumped in again after selling my original iPad.

Thanks guys for the browsing impressions. Goddamn review sites didn't give enough details.

Sold out at my local Best Buy at 8PM, guess I'll have to wait a bit. At least iOS 4.3 is a pretty good update to the browsing experience on my ipad 1.

Web browsing should be sped up.
Hopefully.

EDIT: Uhh, I'm super late. haha.
Old tab.

If it can load that, it can load damned near anything.

I picked up a 64GB black iPad 2 and my store in Milwaukee the white was selling out, too. This is my first iPad and the most frustrating thing is the keyboard. With my iPhone, I can use my thumbs but with this thing, trying to use home row leads to a lot of typos. This will not kill the PC. I cannot imagine typing a paper on this thing.

I love the Marvel and DC comic readers. I stopped collecting comics a long time ago due to space, I will start reading them again. I also love video! Now that the iPad weights less, it is a much better ebook reader.

Keyboard is driving me nuts! I hope I can learn to use it better. Otherwise, no productivity will be done on it.

Man the iPad is awesome. Really love it.

Kinda diminishes my iPhone. If it weren't covered by work, I'd think about getting rid of it.

And white was most popular and so was AT&T @ my Apple store.

Ahhhhh yeah!

It can't stream everything.

True, depends on what he was wanting it for. If just Video and Music then he could just get the Apple TV and it would work with his TV.

If you want to do long-form writing on it you need to use a Bluetooth keyboard or the keyboard dock. The soft keyboard is fine for pecking out short emails, tweets, IMs etc

Ok. I saw the keynote and Steve makes me believe! I already have a MacBook Pro, I feel getting the dock + keyboard is almost like having a desktop.

I will say this: I am buying into the Apple ecosystem hardcore. If I wasn't a PC gamer, I'd totally get an iMac! Too bad the consoles have grabbed me yet.

Arrrgh, you bastards are making me want the white iPad now. And that pic Whitta just tweeted is not helping!! So sexy!

I'm really enjoying this device so far... Funny how it made my iPhone feel so miniature once I picked it up to check a message... Of course this was after I had been using Lucile for quite a while.

Ok so I like comicflow thus far but I'm having an issue with the webdav server. it shows me the password but what am I supposed to put in for the login? I have been unable to figure it and my google fu is failing me on this. thanks for any help.

Awesome impressions. Still not sure if I shouldn't just wait a year as Australia got this in July so its a 6month upgrade... We'll see how I feel come the 24th
