Looks easier than pie really. Though will tumblr let you host custom JS? If it at least lets you edit the actual code for the template it would still be possible. I don't know anything about making a tumblr theme. When I created my blog, I went with BlogSpot at the time mainly for the Google account integration.

According to the tumblr "reasons you'll love" page you can make your own theme if you want. So that's good.
http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_themes

I'd download the iScroll sample and use the iPad example as it has the same layout you already have. But it'll be a bit more involved than that.
Yeah, they let you upload single static JS & CSS files to their server. My whole theme just uses custom HTML (it's one file) and just calls tumblr variables- I can edit anything I want in it and I already use quite a few custom CSS/javascript tweaks.

It's already using infinite scroll, so I don't really know how to incorporate iscroll without ruining that (for the desktop version). Maybe a javascript if/else statement using browser detection like I did for the other scripts?

I decided to sign up and see what I can do. I would remove infinite scroll and switch to a page-based design though. The scroller you were using didn't work as well as it should.

Shame that iScroll is a hack since Apple won't incorporate easy scrolling content and the implementation it has now is crappy. But iScroll works so well on my iPad 2 (I assume iPad 1 as well) so it'd be perfect.

Can you send me the template you currently use as well as any otther code for the scripts? If I get time I'll see if I can create something or at least help you. Send it in a Private Message so it doesn't clutter up the thread. Either the code in CODE tags or a ZIP file uploaded to a free upload site. (There are hundreds of them that will allow simple free small files. Just Google.)

I decided to switch from Blogger to tumblr now.

PM sent, thanks again!

My GF went to buy an iPad 2 today and was told that she needed to make a reservation online before she can buy one in the store. I am checking the reservation types and was wondering if I could select the "Genius Bar" reservation then select "iPad"? This is the only option that would allow her to pick it up tomorrow. Or does it need to be a "Workshop" or "One on One" reservation? These two won't be available until the 21st.

It's none of the above - I fell for the same problem. (Last year, people were using Genius Bar as a workaround to do exactly what you're thinking.)

1. On the same page with those options, if you look in the bottom left area you should see a picture of an iPad 2 with text below it that says "Reserve now". You have to click on this.

2. This takes you to a screen where you select a store (pick whichever one you intend to buy it from)

3. From there, it goes to an inventory page of iPad2's available there. At least here in Vancouver, the inventory is live updated all the time to show what the remaining stock is, but not what's coming in tomorrow. At 9pm, however, they update the page with tomorrow's stock. It's essentially like buying tickets on ticketmaster, only the server isn't as slammed - visit at 9pm, refresh if it doesn't update.

4. After you select a model you need to make sure you're logged into your Apple ID, then you get to select a pick-up time, confirm, and you're done.

Having done this myself last night, I got my pick of models in the first 5 minutes, but when I checked an hour later, only one model was still available, so you have to be at the right page on time. Strangely enough, even with the reservation you may still have to wait in line at the Apple store, but it's a quick wait and they don't really care if you show up early. (Some of the models that go for sale the next day are failed reservations.)

The crappy thing about this whole process is that it's not explained very well - the reservation bit is hidden and I saw countless people walk into the store and try to ask if there was anything in stock, only to hear the same person have to refuse to answer and direct people to the website over and over again. They do have the inventory; they're just not allowed to sell without a reservation. (Half the people in line thought they were waiting to buy one without a reservation too!)

Thanks, Crazymoogle. I must have been too late because the version she wants is currently unavailable. I'll try again tomorrow at 9.

Is anyone aware of an ipad 2 case that is similar to the official apple ipad 1 case? That's still the best case to em. I'll never understand why people put their ipads in those thick cases!

So my iPad 2 just had its first fall. I was at Taco Bell and it slid off the table, fell about 3 feet and landed on a tile floor. All I had on it was a Smart-Cover and that fell right off on impact. Now there's a small dent on the top corners of my new toy. Otherwise the thing seems to work fine.

Now I'm seriously thinking of some sort of rear protection. Maybe a shell case or jelly sleeve? I don't know but I need something that will stay on and not be in the way while I'm using the device.

There is your answer in a simple use case.

That's ridiculous.

I should probably rephrase; they have the inventory on hand (literally, the welcoming staff have ipads listing their stock and everyone who is coming in for a reservation), but even if they have an unreserved unit to sell, they are not allowed to tell you. Either go home, use your phone, or walk forward two feet and use the macbook's there to do the reservation.

I totally understand that they don't want to sell unreserved units to anyone who wanders in - the conflict between reservations and non would be a mess - but the information wall they've put up is crazy. A lot of people coming in that didn't understand why they couldn't just say if they had anything to sell.

(Of course OTOH for those that follow the rules it seems to make it a lot easier to buy one. I just think they need an "Ipad's left" live display or something.)

And comic reader?

I tried Stanza, which is fine, but I switched over to Bookman. Both support .cbz/.cbr, both are free, both work reasonably well, but Bookman has an in-built FTP server, so getting comics on the device is very easy and uncomplicated.

I like ComicGlass, it supports native cbr/cbz and web servers. Has wealth of options that no other comic app has matched yet, you can go crazy customizing the zoom modes, tap zones, gestures, etc. I use it in conjunction with the FileBrowser app so that my airport extreme USB disk becomes a wireless file server for my comics.

This is the best comic setup. You never have to have the computer on or use iTunes syncing to access your comic library!

Here's a good thread comparing comic readers:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/ipad-applications/1269241-comic-zeal-other-comic-readers-6.html

Comics newb here - if you get comic zeal, where do you get the comics from? What are some of the best / must have comics? And as far as the app functionality is concerned, are graphic novels considered comics?

If you are so inclined, comics can be found at any torrent website.

I would recommend reading fables, transmetropolitan, and the sandman to start.

Not sure what you mean by the last bit.... Graphic novels are just collections of comic books, the app will not be able to tell the difference btwn 12 comic issues and 1 graphic novel that contains the same 12 issues

iMovie can't use .mod files, can it? What format should I convert the .mod files to and what's the best app to do so?

It's not possible to import pictures, from an SD card, directly into an app, is it?

Why does the iMovie app require location services?

Finally got my iPad 2. The local store got a shipment and my bro-in-law held one back for me.

Love it, of course. Can't stop fucking around in Garageband.

It is possible to sync iMovie projects from the iPad to the iPhone and Mac apps?
Not as of yet. It could come in a future update of iMovie 11, they've already patched GarageBand to be able to open iOS projects.

Do you have it connected to a USB hub? iPads and iPhones won't charge through them for some reason.
It won't charge through any USB port on my computer. Not the front nor the back, if thats what you mean.

300 dollar jeans, but torrent comics?

C'MON!

damn kid get off my nuts... nothing beats having physical books & graphic novels but how else would you get digital comics onto your ipad?

ok it there any reason to forgo using the iOS version and go with the Mac version instead? It's not a huge project but it'd like to export the results and make a dvd.

I can't figure out how to import video clips into the iPad iMovie app. I put the clips on the iPad via iTunes (both in the iPod/Video app and the documents section of the iMovie app) but iMovie can't find it :/

Mentioned this in the Toronto-Age thread.

If you guys are in TO and are looking for an iPad 2, try Beach Mac down by the Beaches. He had several when I was there yesterday and seems to have a decent supplier since he mentioned he sold over 100 last week.

So i tried taking a quick video with the iPad camera app and that showed up iMovie video import panel. I then synced my video clips into the iPad Photos app through iTunes... but iMovie still won't recognize the clips. Is there some particular file format that iMovie for iOS uses or it only works with videos taken with the iPad's camera?

So the news is that since yesterday night I own an iPad 2 16Gb White!
I am very pleased by the aesthetic point of view...both object itself and interface.

First of all is right to say that I am an android user by more than one year so I am used to certain things and I knew that iOS (without Jailbreak) has some limits but
I cannot believe that...

1) If you are in a web page like this

http://blog.beastieboys.com/post/4420469387/heres-the-trailer-for-the-long-ass-video-thing

you cannot play the video and then click on the video and choose something like "share" to post that video directly on Facebook
Looks like the only way to share it is...go on youtube...search for that video...and then choose share. If you find the video...

2) You cannot choose the resolution of the youtube video you're gonna play

3) With Safari, that is the default browser, you cannot download file but you need something like GoodReader...and pay. Pay, or anyway look for a function that is basic in every other browser and system on the planet?

4) The virtual keyboard doesn't have directional arrows? Ok not having it on iPhone but on a tablet it would be nice...

5) If I plug the iPad to the Pc USB it shows "Not Charging"....really? Someone says that is charging anyway... someone else says is charging but only if the iPad 2 is in standby mode...so...I do not have to trust what I read?

By now only this but honestly I am quite surprised by all this. I guess that some of this things can be solved with the JB but even if it is like that I must admit that - if all true - this is beyond my aspectations of limits and anyway I'm not that sure that all can by solved via JB.

Can you please enlighten me?

iOS Jailbreak thread

For 1), 2) and 3) get iCab or jailbreak. For 4) jailbreak. For 5) buy a new computer.

Saw my first iPad 2 on the shelf last night. It was a White 64 gig 3G. Open box with no mark down, someone had returned it, heh.

" For 5) buy a new computer"

So USB 3.0 is not enough? A new computer has anything better by this point of view? Not even the i3 Sony Vaio of my wife is not enough to power an iPad? Are you sure is a problem of the PC and laptops we're using? C'mon...

This is not about how powerful your computer is but rather how much it outputs through its USB port. Mac's just output a lot more.

My bad.
For 5) buy a new Mac

*shrug* I don't make the rules, take it to an Apple Store and complain. At least the iPads now come with a 10w wall adapter.

This iMovie situation is really pissing me off. Has anybody used it for a project before?

Well, as long as it's a Mac booted into Mac OS. My Macbook Pro won't charge if it's booted into Windows 7, but will from OS X.

Have you tried rebooting? It sounds more frustrating than it should be. I know I often have to sync twice to get videos to show up on the videos app (or iPod app on the iPhone)

They've always come with a 10W wall adapter.

charging over USB works, just not when the screen is on and its pretty slow(but so is the wall charger). I've done it on my desktop at home and my dell at work.
