I've discussed this earlier in the thread: Standard power USB 2.0 ports only supply 500 mA at 5V. Your USB ports needs to supply at least 1000 mA at 5V for it to be able to charge when it's in use.Knight77 said:" For 5) buy a new computer"

1000 mA over 5V is about 5 watts of juice. The wall plug supplies 10 watts and isn't shared with other devices consuming your USB bus power. The latest Macbook Pros can actually supply the full 10 watts over USB, if you have one.
The iPad isn't even configured to support the USB 3.0 spec, so I don't believe it would see any advantage of the 900 mA that 3.0 can provide.
