Clock app... can't believe I just noticed that it's missing.

That and Calculator are just 'eh?' moments.
It's not that big a deal, but there are certainly times when I think it'd be nice to be able to use the Clock app for an alarm (or when I'd like a built-in weather app).

nope. ipad never came with the iphone apps clock, weather, stocks or calculator
Was there ever an official reason for that?

Clock and Calculator are handy and I currently use third party versions.

This neogaf iPad app is truly wonderful

I'm finding it a little hard to type on, possibly a learning curve. Didn't yet get my smart cover it's still in the mail.

Having a lot of fun with it but get very worried about all the saved passwords.

So I tried out the iPad 2 today, opened up a bunch of webpages in rapid succession. When a checked each tab the pages had to reload. Fail.

Yeah, I don't mind it on the iphone but on a tablet (which I see as a laptop replacement/companion device to my PC). I can't see myself getting a ipad.

But having an iPhone then an Android tablet just seems weird for some reason lol

nope. no official statement. not even a pithy, one-liner email from Steve :)

I thought there was a statement somewhere. Something like the development team didn't want to just scale up iPhone apps, and only making apps that make 'sense' on iPad, with an appropriate iPad sensibility.

4.3.2 is out. Minor changes.

Fixes an issue that occasionally caused blank or frozen video during a FaceTime call

Fixes an issue that prevented some international users from connecting to 3G networks on iPad Wi-Fi + 3G

Contains the latest security updates

Verizon iPhone is updated but still behind 4.3 in features.

I would love a proper clock app that can run alarms like the iPhone.

I actually find using the main GAF page works better for me on the iPad. I do still rock the web app on my iPhone though.

so I have a bunch of MKV, wmv, mp4 and other movie files that I can't play on the first Ipad cause it's too slow. What do you guys use on your fancy Ipad 2 and do you have problems playing them?

VLC player for the ipad is just freakin terrible. Cinex player is great but it only plays divx and xvid movies. and not HD ones....

I ripped all my movies/tv into mkvs and run them through Air Video doing live transcode (my PC is more than sufficient) and I've had no problem on my iPad 1.

smh. I use the homebrewtalk app on my iPad with Notes when I'm brewing beer and definitely get annoyed at the lack of a clock and calculator for timing and recipe adjustment.

I want to be able to use my iPad as my alarm like I can my iPod touch. Its one of two reasons I still need to keep it around. Come on, iOS 5!!!

So I've had my iPad 2 for a week or so now, and I just noticed some pretty significant light leakage. Two questions:
1) How long do I have to return this thing to an apple store to get a replacement?
2) is it worth replacing for just light leakage? I am not sure how big of a deal I should make of this.

Thanks.

My 1st gen iPad leaks light, but you can only notice it when the screen is completely black and I'm in the dark. So I figured if I can only see it in those conditions, there isn't much point in complaining. There is usually something on the screen right? So why worry?

Yeah that is my Opinion on the issue as well. The only reason I even considered returning it is because I have seen people on here who have returned their iPads for the same reason. So I figured it had to be something worth looking into.

Off topic: I am close to typing as fast on e iPad as I am on a regular keyboard. Never ever though I would be able to type this well on a keyboard without tactile keys. It also helps to have a pretty good auto correct though. Heh

If it's something that bugs you, by all means take it back but I'm of the opinion that if you will never notice it, it's not worth the hassle.

I went to the big old Apple Store on 5th Ave. It was hard for them to see it under the bright lights, but they said they'll replace it, but there's no guarantee that the replacement won't be as bad. This was back in the 2nd or 3rd week, when stock was still limited. Their advice was to wait until they get the manufacturing process under control and then it'll be a better shot to replace it then. There's a 1-year warranty in the US and most places, but I think some countries have laws requiring a 2-year warranty. You have at least a year, depending on your country.

I've only watched things with airvideo using 'convert on the fly' or whatever, but it has been seemless. amazing program.

Infinity Blade
World of Goo
Puzzle Agent
Rage HD
Solipskier
Monkey Island 1&2
Plants v. Zombies

If you don't have iPhone:
Cut the Rope
Tiny Wings
The Incident
Fruit Ninja
Canabalt
Tumbledrop
Robot unicorn attack

Are there GOOD and preferably free or cheap apps for:

viewing and editing PDFs
viewing and editing PowerPoint

and is the editing restricted to text or can you draw with your finger?

How is the keyboard attachment and is it a reasonable laptop alternative for the times when you need to use it for productivity?

I'm a big fan of Documents to Go. It's saved me countless times when I need to turn in a short assignment or quickly do a class reading but don't have a WiFi connection. It reads so many file formats and you can save your own documents into a number of formats. The best thing (for me at least) is that it properly displays .doc files, which the default document viewer is finicky with.

i.e. There is a whole ecosystem of those apps out there. We don't see much reason to waste our resources upgrading stuff that you can either get for free or 0.99.

Don't bother returning an iPad with backlight leaking, literally all current models have it to some degree so you're likely to get one as bad or worse right now. Mine has it moderately if you look at a black screen at high brightness in the dark, but it's never bothered me during normal use.

THe backlighting issue seems to be to be a grossly overblown issue. I have some light leak but I never notice it unless the ipad is FULL BRIGHTNESS + BLACK SCREEN AND IN THE DARK. And you never really have it on full brightness.

Its such an asinine thing to worry about. I'm loving the IPAD2

Finally using iPad 2 + atomic for proper neogaf posting as my wifi at home is up and man, you can seriously type fast on this, iPad one used to chug. This is what the iPad experience should have been in the first instance .could never type out massive paragraphs and not have it chug before...

My only problem with Atomic and browsing GAF is sometimes pages don't load fully, almost like it just loads a cached version over and over unless I hit reload. I guess I could clear the cache but I think I'd lose all my log-in's and that would be annoying.

And yeah the icon is kind of fugly but I got over it.

Is Doc2Go a viable alternative to printing out slides and writing on them in class if you have the keyboard attachment? It doesn't seem to let you edit PDFs, what lets you edit PDFs AND Powerpoint?

When did you order it?

March 24th. :lol

It's hard for me to get to Apple Stores at a reasonable time where I live and Targets, Walmarts, and Best Buys here are terrible with stocking anything of value so I didn't even bother otherwise I'd have one already.
