I have an Air and an iPad and I use both.
I loaded up 5 pages, including two pages of The Big Picture(great test site since it's all large images), then played some infinity blade. When I went back to Safari, the big picture pages were still there, one GAF thread reloaded. Safari is really improved, I don't think you would need to use an alternate browser at all unless you just prefer a different UI.FoxhoundNL said:Have you tried opening a few image heavy pages, then switch to a game (Infinity Blade) and back to the browser again. The pages still there or do they have to reload. iCab doesn't seem neccesary on the iPad 2 anymore if that Tipb impression is indicative of the browser experience in Safari.
I'm still going to wait for that delicious 1gb of ram in iPad 3 though the iPad 2 is more impressive ram wise than I innitially thought, that's for sure.

It's the same. I prefer it that way over losing more screen real estate to tabs. Whatever floats your boat, though.Cloudy said:Does safari have real tabs (not background) now?

Also what's a good case to order... I saw the griffin one in best buy but I can't put the iPad with smart cover in it. Are there any nice cases or carry cases that I shouldn't looking at? Thanks again
Bring it to an Apple Store if you are near one.btrboyev said:Well I didn't notice screen bleeding on my iPad till I cranked up the brightness to max and went to a black screen. I usually don't put too much thought to this kind of thing, but at $700, I expect better. I bought this unit at walmqrt and I'm thinking of returning awrasse ping but there is no way to guarantee a better replacement. What do you guys suggest? Are we being ridiculous to complain?
I think if it's something you didn't even notice until somebody pointed it out and even then after you had to create the conditions for it it's not worth worrying about. I am pretty anal about this stuff, I returned my iPad 1 over a tiny speck of dirt under the screen that was barely noticeable, but even though I have some minor light bleeding on my new iPad 2 it doesn't bother me.btrboyev said:Well I didn't notice screen bleeding on my iPad till I cranked up the brightness to max and went to a black screen. Just get a desktop and use Mr. iPad as your in-between.

Using a touchscreen is just too much work, as ridiculous as that sounds. Take browsing GAF for instance: if I want to get to page 3 the Apple iPad thread, its nearly impossible for me to touch the '3' on this screen, it's too small. I have to zoom in every time to be able to touch something as small as those thread page numbers. I can't see myself ever liking touch as much as a trackpad. Not to mention that the iPad is far too heavy.

I'm looking at Plex, Streamtome, or Air Video. Anyone use those before?

I used to have a desktop and laptop when I got my OG iPad but I rarely used the laptop a month or so after the purchase (so I sold it). I just didn't see the point, especially since the experience on the iPad was much more worthwhile for me.Sapiens said:Not for me. iPad is just too limited to serve as a true portable replacement. I have an Air - and I don't think it's possible for an iPad to substitute for it outside of Web and Email.
I mean, the air lasts 7 hours and I can do so much with it - this is just hyperbole.
hyp said:the touch interface is perfect for kids because in general they're physical creatures that love to fiddle with things. I just hand over the ipad and she figures everything out on her own.

How do you know that's a memory limitation and not CPU/GPU related?Mrbob said:Let me give you another example. I'll admit I play the Dash games on my ipod touch ( I like em shaddup!) and my 3G only has 256mb ram. On some of the later stages on Hotel Dash the 2d animated sprites chop at times and the game hiccups as there is too much on screen at once.
And that was without upgrading the RAM, amazing!krypt0nian said:Weird because I just loaded an 93 picture page from the Earthquake thread and it only lost 1 pic. With an iPad1.

Well on a computer I'd just do drive sharing and play the files natively, but I saw that there's a Mac StreamToMe client out on the Mac App Store, last I saw it it was free. It's really really clunky, but it works the same way as the iPhone/iPad client...nearly the same (which is why it feels so clunky). It uses the same server (Mac/Windows) that the iOS clients use.Meus Renaissance said:I know this is off-topic, but because so many of you are Mac users, does anyone here know of a good piece of software that can stream from PC to Mac, audio and video like you can find on iPad/iPhone?
If it bugs you go ahead. A defect is a defect and it's under warranty.btrboyev said:Well I didn't notice screen bleeding on my iPad till I cranked up the brightness to max and went to a black screen. I tried Plex when it first came out and the server was a bit of a pain in the ass for me and the app itself sucked, Air Video and StreamToMe are both solid, but the latter does photos and music as well (also integrates with iTunes and iPhoto libraries). If you have 4.3 you can use iTunes Home Sharing (built in) while on your LAN.biggyfries said:I'm looking at streaming movies from my Mac to the iPad. Any recommendations?

I saw one review mentioning choppy videos worked smoothly on iPad 2 (albeit some other video player app).Cloudy said:On the ipad1, it worked fine unless they were really HQ feeds. I noticed that HD live-action usually worked but most HD anime wouldn't. Haven't tried on ipad 2 yet
Air Video is all you need.biggyfries said:Thanks for the streaming suggestions.
Tried VLC, but it needs to process before it will play the file, and a 5-min file took about 3-4 minutes to process.
Will keep it in mind, as it is a pretty nice app/server, but will into the others, too.
Anslon said:I got an Iphone 4 because it contained an HD camera so I could film snippets of my baby boy's life. At just over 4 months old, I have seen him drawn to touch screens. I let him pick out Pokemon and attacks on my game of Soul Silver, and he will randomly touch the Iphone 4's screen to move stuff. My question is this, does the Ipad make a good teaching tool for a toddler? I know they react well to instant feedback, but are the applications there to support it? Also, would the screen scratch too easily? I would not be against getting a protector sheet for the screen.

Somewhat irritating scrolling with 'yer hand. I suppose I could go with the web app.

That's good to hear for you iPad 2 owners. I think that makes iCab redundant as on iPad 1 one after playing Infinity Blade for a bit you need to reload some pages again too, because the game demanded more ram, I guess.Tobor said:I loaded up 5 pages, including two pages of The Big Picture(great test site since it's all large images), then played some infinity blade. Directions are for iPhone, but it works the same.
Get Splashtop for remote desktop. It's cheap, fast, and works great.captive said:Ditto here for desktop + iPad. Havnt even touched my laptop since Friday.
Thanks everyone for app recommendations, keep posting them if you see them. Got flight control hd for .99, tower madness for free, appstart for free. I wish logmein would lower the price for the iPad ignition app, be really useful for me for work.

I got mine at the best buy at memorial city. I called the apple store at 2:30 and they said they had a line of 80. My gf jumped in line at the best buy a little after four. They got 70 in and she was 50th or so. I got the last 32gig wifi bc the people in front of us called someone and they didn't want white one and they were in line at the apple store which was out the door of the mall.dskillzhtown said:Where did you end up getting yours?
