I think the great demand for Skyfire when it debuted on the AppStore indicates that lots of iPhone and iPad users want Flash.

Incorrect. No one wants the shit pile that is Flash. They want the content that Flash provides, which is slowly but surely being converted to HTML5 as it should be given the swell of iOS web browsing.

That's just arguing semantics. I don't think anyone wants Flash purely because of Adobe and because of Flash. We want to access the content that is blocked by Flash and I thought that goes without saying.

here we go again about adding functionality to iOS...

take your functionality and shove it. i want shit like this on my iPad (oh WAIT, it's here already):

http://vimeo.com/19272580

pure, unadulterated, focused, full-screen applications. i don't need another calendar or clock widget to remind me i am a minute or day closer to death.

edit:
i could use better notifications though!

That's AWESOME!
I can't wait for the 25th for the UK release, I hope I can get one day 1 (will be my first iPad).

The Korg and Rebirth apps looks awesome too. What other good music ones are there?

Well as more and more sites convert to HTML5 you'll then find something else to complain about. It's who you are.

In all honesty, I've owned an iPad since last April and not once have come across a situation where I absolutely needed flash. In fact, I completely forgot about it until this whole stupid argument started again.

And you're part of the problem making such bullshit statements.

I asked you why you want a stupid usb socket in your iPad for and you couldn't come up with anything. You say you want Flash, but don't give concrete examples of why it's required, only that you want 'content'.

Then there is that other guy who wants to watch Survivor on his iPad, and thinks that Steve Jobs is personally pulling the strings preventing him from doing so.

They move to html5 for video is happening despite steve's open letter, not because of it.

I'm not even really complaining about Flash. It's an annoyance that happens 10% of the time. I think it's lame to see people defend being denied 10% of the Internet. Can't we all just accept it as a weakness and move on? Some people want to defend it like they're being paid for spreading propaganda.

It's not who I am either as I've always been consistent with my issues regarding tablets and the iPad. I have an iPhone and love it. I have a first gen iPad and have some issues with it. I don't think it's a perfect device, or god's gift. It has good things and it has bad things about it. Just like I don't think OSX is superior to Windows or vice versa. Both have pros and both have cons. I just want to see the iPad be more compelling as a tablet and I hope iOS5 at least starts showing some of that.

I go to the gym to work out and look at hot guys, but i also want to read gaf on the treadmill. My gym has free wifi.

Where is this fabled 10% of the Internet that I'm missing out on?

Well at least you don't have to worry about the Flash exploit that's out in the wild right now!

What? I gave you several reasons. Go look back.

Why do I want Flash? Because I don't want to have to put down the iPad everytime I'm browsing a site or clicking a link in GAF because I encountered some content that is Flash. I want 100% of the web at my disposal, not 90%.

I've given examples but you seem to choose to ignore them and just discount that I hate Apple and I hate the iPad. Neither which are true. You're part of the problem because you assume it's either one extreme or another. Everything is godly, or everything is complete shit and that's just complete crap. There's a middle ground so stop pretending it's all or nothing.

Typed on my iMac, sitting next to my iPhone.

I finally got around to trying out the xoom at best buy yesterday and i compared it with my ipad 2 and i have to say i like my ipad 2 much much more. The xoom feels like it should be used in landscape mode than portrait which one reason i won't buy it the other is the lack of apps. Scrolling through books on the xoom is cool, but i like my iOS bookshelf.

Really? Why would that be awkward? I've been taking mine into meetings for a while, but i'm not the only one, if that matters.

Are you seriously trying to pretend that no site uses Flash that doesn't have an HTML5 option and that you can access every single page without any problem on an iOS device? See this is what I pointed out earlier, people pretending there isn't an issue. Just today, browsing our very own NeoGAF, I hit this post:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26528414&postcount=1

Tell me you can play the video in that link. My iPhone certainly couldn't. It's annoying things like that which break the experience because you gotta stop what you're doing and grab a computer.

Yet Jobs personally explained to his customers why Flash wasn't on the iPhone or the iPad. He said Adobe couldn't deliver the software, that it was slow, that it was a hinderance to battery life and had numerous security issues that Apple would not be able to control.

These are all valid reasons, they were communicated to you in a clear manner, yet you choose not to listen, or you don't understand, or some combination of both.

Adobe still hasn't delivered Flash for tablets, and if it's anything like the buggy beta that came out a few days ago, it's still a while off.

If the iPad came with flash I would disable it straight away.

Because I'm the only one (so far) :)

Awkward isn't the right word. I'm secure enough to not care. More like 'aware' that I've got it. Someday bringing tablets to a meeting will be as natural as a notepad and pen is today.

why would be it awkward? no more awkward than carrying a kindle, laptop, netbook, smartphone, etc

While tablets are still new i think many people are getting used to them. Then again I brought mine to my horrible crappy job to read Map of Bones and some co workers were interested in it because it was the ipad 2.

Hulu.com? Oh no wait...

That's more Hulu's fault rather than lack of Flash. Hulu Plus blows since you only get about 30% of the content that you can get on a PC or Mac as far as recent TV shows goes. But that's more of Hulu blocking than Apple's fault. Still, I'll state again, 30% of content sucks ass with Hulu Plus.

How does that ruin everything? I just clicked the link, it didn't run, so I quickly browsed google to find an alternate upload. Certainly not deal breaking or capable of ruining my day.

People carry Kindles to meetings where you work?

Lots of people screamed about the antenna on the iPhone 4. Problem or not a problem? If you're about loud vocal, by your definition then it was a problem. We know Apple never fixed it. We also know it didn't hurt sales. Imaginary problems aren't always deal breakers.

Fixed that for you.

Not saying that the iPhone 4 doesn't drop dB when held, however, virtually no one noticed the issue until someone pointed it out to them - then it was broadcast to everyone that would listen by Apple's competitors and people that have some sort of vendetta against Apple because they believe some wacky conspiracy.

When people realized they don't hold their phones like that on a normal basis, and that it only affected those that had poor connections to towers due to distance and uncontrollable anomalies such as being in an elevator, or inside a concrete box - they dropped the issue.

So you are right, problems that are not real problems don't always hurt sales.

Well not to meetings, i don't work at a fortune 500 company but yes people at my soul killing job have kindles to read.

Let's not give half truths here. I know Jobs explained it and let's face it, he can explain it all he wants and make any excuse he wants whether some be true and some not, but that still doesn't somehow negate the fact that you can't view a significant chunk of the Internet.

I bought an iPhone 4 and you know what, I can accept the limitation there. It's a mobile device, for some reason I accept limitations and know I'm not going to get the full web experience, but a tablet is a different story because you browse and use it in different environments and in different times and settings that makes wanting that extra 10% access.

On a side note, I really wish Apple would let me view YouTube videos in Safari on an iPhone since they let me do it on an iPad.

But getting back to the half truths, Adobe wanted to release Flash. Apple flat out refused. So let's not make this out that it's all Adobe's fault. Apple won't let them. Adobe pleaded and publically said so but Apple still refused so let's point the finger at the right people. It's both their faults, but Adobe doesn't even have a chance to try because Apple refuses.

Also, let's not forget that Adobe's Flash in a handheld space is different than the desktop space. From all accounts on Android, you get to pick and choose what is displayed instead of it always being displayed. Having the option? I'd take it easily since it's not always running, and then, if there's something I want, I have a choice to view it. I like having choices. Clearly, you do not.

You should get skyfire... Demure Olivia munn is very hot by the way. That's a good look for her.

So now we're jumping through hoops? It's amazing how you guys like to jump through hoops when I'd rather have a streamlined experience, and yet it's that same streamlined experience that people praise Apple for. You can't have it both ways. Plus, what did i just say about the all or nothing extreme? I said it was an annoyance, not that it ruined everything.

So now we're sweeping the antenna problem under the cover eh? So whenever something vocal happens, now it's people blowing things up. The length of excuses some of you guys come up with to not admit a problem is amazing. I encountered the problem. Not all the time, but certainly sometimes and I didn't know why until it was pointed out. So ya, I had to have it pointed out, but to say people only could do it when purposefully trying is not true at all. The antenna issue wasn't imaginary, so let's not try and pretend it wasn't. What's imaginary is that it was a non-issue.

krypt0nian said:
Why would anyone care why they are adding HTML5 support? You brought it up out of nowhere.

I got the impression that you think the movement to html5 seems to beeen spurned because of the "swell" of iOS browsing. As if the popularity of iOS is the reason for progress on that front.

I don't know, I'm way out of city limits and works fine for me. Maybe your AT&T coverage sucks where you live. Sorry to hear that.

I think most of the studies show that the phone actually gets better reception than the 3GS and many comparable phones. I think if it was a real issue there would be people out there calling for Apple's head, or returning the phone.

I suppose you are saying that Apple has such a grip over their sheep that they will gladly eat shit and ask for more - if you could explain how they are doing it other than unparalleled quality, excellent service, near perfect simplicity, and superior customer satisfaction, then I'll listen to you about the conspiracy.

Marty Chinn said:

Seems fixed now. I can't replicate the antenna problem on my iPhone 4, nobody has been able to. The one time the bars changes when I death-gripped it, they actually went up.

They were, and people were satiated with a bumper, a new strength indicator and directions on how to properly hold a phone.

The 7" form factor is perfect (Nook Color). Hopefully when the iPad 3 comes out with the Retina display they will downscale the iPad to be 7" and make the iPad 3 the iPad HD.

Didn't Steve said 7" tablets were idiotic and would never happen at Apple? I'm inclined to agree- the Galaxy Tab isn't very practical for me in it's current form factor.
