Apple iPad 2 |OT|

So I finally got my ipad 1 sold:D
Now I just gotta find a ipad 2. Using the apple website to see if I can reserve one in the meantime because my hours are complete shit but we'll see how the stock situation is.

I noticed that the portenzo case has a scoop that directs the sound from the speaker towards the user. Is there any other case or little add on that will do this. I sometimes end up cuping my hand to hear things.

iAnnotate worked well. The only function it's missing is the ability to "text box" drawings. But I love the organizational interface and other sorting options, in addition to the obvious annotation functions. Very classy.

Dropbox is changing my life. So awesome.

Oh, my major problem with iAnnotate was a non-issue. I just figured out you can zoom out on a PDF and draw stuff to the blank space to the right of the document. The "text box" draw option would still be nice, but drawing diagrams to the right of each slide works pretty well.

Is there a general consensus on what the best stylus is? I wanna do some note taking and it seems much more intuitive if you had a stylus to act as a pencil.

Also, just got my octavo case which is really terrific. Holds the iPad really securely, and the sound is a lot louder too. Can't recommend it enough.

I bought the Targus Stylus for painting.

It's solid. Only $15.

I got a black wifi 16gb launch day at Walmart. I just ordered my second off the apple site last night since my wife and I decided 2 Ipads were necessary for one household. Shipping estimate was 3-4 weeks.... Should I expect it any sooner than this?

So I'm a dropbox junkie, as my camera app automatically uploads pictures to dropbox and my voice memo app uploads to dropbox as well. I'm looking for a simple drawing app that automatically saves pictures i've drawn to dropbox.

For example, I'm using ArtStudio right now, but what I want it to do is automatically upload a picture with the touch of a button instead of me having to save a picture to the camera roll, open dropbox app, and then upload to dropbox. Any ideas?

edit: I know of iDraw, but I think that is overkill from what I want. I just want a simple doodle drawing app that has dropbox integration. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/idraw/id363317633?mt=8

I use this. (POGO SKETCH)

I like it. small. clippable. works good.

I tried a couple but I really like Quickshot. It has several options that I liked. It can geotag just like Camera app, you can choose to save pictures on the camera roll OR just upload them to dropbox. It uploads in the background, and it also uploads full quality pictures.

It uploads fine in the background, the quality is the same as the Camera app, and I really like the option to just upload and not save photos to the camera roll.

If you just got an iPad and haven't used it much, wait on buying a stylus. I bought one right when I got my original iPad a year ago, and I've used the stylus twice. It was a Pogo, which was highly recommended at the time and a lot like the ones suggested in this thread, but it doesn't work like a pencil, and it's just a pain in the butt to use. I'd recommend just using your finger and getting used to that. Really, the device isn't made for a stylus.

Griffin. I got the Targus (which looked like Griffin, but not as good tip), and Dagi for drawing.

Pogo is shit

Hello, i just bought the ipad 2 so im new to all the apps....

does GAF have a thread about the best apps to get for the ipad? I know there's one for iphone games that someone made up. If not can someone point me to a good website (besides apps that don't suck) that has a good list of quality apps. Thanks.

Your relevant newspaper probably has an app worth downloading.

Zinio is great if you're into certain magazines. It has Edge, which is a fantastic gaming mag, for a reasonable price.

The Kindle app is essential if you're into eBooks.

iAnnotate is an AMAZING app if you ever need to work with PDFs (lecture slides and the like).

Dropbox is something you need to download on every device you own, right now, including your iPad.

ComicZeal for comics.

QuickShot for a nice camera app that automatically uploads to Dropbox.

Friendly is probably the best Facebook app, but the touch version of the Facebook website itself works well too, so you could just link that on your home page. But it has a low-res icon. Icky. Oh and the Twitter app is great.

The iWork suite is theoretically great but I am yet to really use it (granted, I've had the device for less than a week).

AppShopper is a must. Build up your wish list and it will tell you when their prices drop. It is amazing.

Find iPhone is useful, I suppose.

Your local bank probably has an app.

Wikipanion is good for on the fly Wiki.

Shazam is as useful as ever.

Hulu/BBC/iView for your local tv.

Garage Band is great if you're a muso, it's a great novelty even if you're not.

^^ thanks rez. i got app shopper and looking to get dropbox setup soon... not sure how much i will use it.... some of those ones i already got too :)

anyone got a linky to a list of apps??

I returned my 64gb wi-fi. The light near the home button was not so much of a concern , but there was a seam of light on the upper right hand corner of the screen . It was like the lcd was separating from the case. I got no offer of exchange was told the problems with my Ipad falls within acceptable levels for lcds. They indicated they had Ipads in the back that were far worse. Oh well. My wife has no problems with hers. I guess it is just a crap shoot.

As a student, I've downloaded Notetaker HD, GoodReader, and UPad for annotating/taking notes in class. I never seem to see UPad mentioned very much, but I am beyond impressed with it. Is it a newer app or something?

It basically gives me the ability to take regular notes with the zoom textbox while also letting me annotate PDFs. Obviously I'd like to see audio recording (synced with the text) and dropbox support, but it's so easy to annotate. Is this the best combo or should I be looking into 1 app for note taking and 1 app for annotating?

It's a new app (Nov last year) that has been working out the kinks with the many updates since then (10 at my last count). It's not easy switching note taking apps as there isn't a standard file format for the data. Some apps save the notes as images, others use pdfs and some even offer both as export options. It's a decent idea using one app for note taking and pdf annotation (put all your documents in there and it's like a course binder) but it's more important to figure out a work flow early and stick with. If you're happy with UPad that's great. By the way, there are other note taking apps which already include audio recording ;)

What are some *good* ones. I read about one and it basically is the kitchen sink of those kinds of apps (starts with an 's'?), but the actual writing wasn't great.

I was reading today about Evernote vs. Simplenote.

What are the thoughts around here?

I've only tried Evernote so far, and though I love the idea, I think the executions falls a bit flat.
I takes a bit too much to load notes, and sometime I'd only want to write something quickly and I just can't with Evernote.

Plus, I read that Simplenote allows to share notes between users.
I'm thinking about that as a big pro. My gf and me for example could make shared shopping lists and argue no more about what has to be bought and what not. :P

I haven't tried Simplenote, but I use Evernote for storing and sorting all the random ideas in my head, plus I have the Chrome extension to access it from anywhere. I find it very useful, and they do keep it updated so it won't surprise me to find collaborative notes in a future release.

I thought the scalpers were gone because of the international launch, I was wrong. I guess it's come back since it's sold out internationally now. Here's AppleInsider's video of the SoHo line this morning (video at end of article):
http://www.appleinsider.com/article...eate_shock_and_awe_sales_forecasts_surge.html

AppleInsider Noah sent details and video on Tuesday from the iPad 2 line at Apple's New York City retail store in SoHo. The line of customers reportedly wrapped around Prince Street, north on Greene Street and almost to Houston, while most who were waiting were said to be speaking mostly Mandarin and some Cantonese.

"Ten or so minutes after they allowed the line in, we were told that all of the AT&T versions were sold out," he said in an e-mail. "Some people left grumbling (me included). Ten minutes from them, the same went for all Wifi models. Only Verizon's versions remain."

Will the ipad1 dock work for the ipad2? I assume yes, but I want a definitive answer before I buy one.

google-fu fails me today.

It was sold out internationally within 6 hours of the international launch. Here in Canada it's basically no different than on, say, Day 2 of the US launch. OOS everywhere, and month long wait times for online ordering. We just don't have the distraction of a CDMA version...

So which one are you looking for? FWIW, I ordered from MacConnection.com, they quoted a 2 week+ shipping time, and they shipped it in like 6-7 days and I got it 2 days after they shipped.

Anyone wanna help me decide on which new domain to use for my iPad wallpaper site? I'm not really satisfied with my current one.

-1024by1024.com
-oohlaipad.com
-galleripad.com
-ipadforte.com
-alaipad.com
-ipad1024.com
-pixelsforipad.com
-pixelperfectipad.com
-pixelatedipad.com

There is an app for that :P (Droplist)

What is the best browser for the iPad?

I would be willing to pay for it if it's considerably better than Safari...
Icab has Dropbox integration for downloading files, ad blocking, filters, modules, and has a tab bar like desktop browsers. It is great.

Yay, got my iPad and its syncing now. Is there an easy way to only sync iPad and Universal apps? i don't want me iphone apps on the device.

Why do people use spoiler tags for non-spoiler things?

yea, itunes. find the apps categorized as "iphone, ipod touch, ipad apps" and sync those only.

32 gb black wi fi. i'm leaving for a trip to SF in a couple weeks so at this point i don't really care... when i get back from vacation, the ipad will be on it's way from apple.com

good tip though, wish i had known it a few weeks ago :p

This was one of my top choices, as well. My only concern was its length.

That thought crossed my mind too. Maybe you could grab another domain for shorthand like pixperpad.com or something. Just spitballing :)

So I bought Reeder, but I'm kinda confused.

1. Can I set "readability" to default? It sucks having to enable it on every single article.

2. Is there a way to add feeds in-app?

3. When I select "all feeds", my filtered feeds show up without filters, what's the deal with that?

I asked this on Macrumors but I figure I'll get a better response here, so I'll copy paste:

Guy I have some questions. I got my ipad 2 today and it has a dead pixel or whatever. What do I do to get it replaced? Will I have to wait until stock stabilizes before I can go in and get it exchanged? Should I reserve one (lol) and then go in and exchange for it, that seems wrong for some reason. Should I call in ahead and tell them about it and see what they say to do? Really don't know what's the best choice. It's not terrible but it's one of those things that once you see you can't unsee.

Also I assume I can go to any apple store and not just the one I bought it in right? Any help is good, thanks. Also I read somewhere that they may not replace it if it's only 1 dead pixel, that's not true right?

Just not sure what the policy is or what I can do at this point in time (if anything).

Set up an appointment at the Genius Bar. Show the dead pixel. That's it - they'll replace it for you.

Why are people so afraid of calling customer support? They'd have told you the same thing and been more responsive.

Apple stores have specific stock available for exchanges.

And I can do it at any apple store right? Guess I'll call in and tell em. Thanks for the help doods. It's such a small thing to complain about though (visually speaking) that I'll feel like a wanker even though it's the right thing to do.
