hook the ipad up to your computer and go to itunes. under the apps tab in the ipad info page, there is a section for app storage. the kindle app should show up there - add the mobi file to it.

there are other reader apps that allow for wireless addition of content (ftp, webdav, dropbox) but kindle is not one of them.
thank you this worked perfectly. it never crossed my mind to scroll down when i got to the app section in itunes.

Do iDevices come with manuals/guides anymore? I don't remember. There are some things like double-click, enabling triple-click and iTunes file transferring that might need ro be explained to newbies. (I know you can get the guides on the iBooks Store).

There are people that really like iOS. For all the talk about "but it's just an app launcher," you can't discount the fact that it does that very well.
L-O-L

Its just some buttons....on a screen. Wow.

Its certainly not a bullet point to any objective person.

Is there any way to make 'iPod' on the iPad have the same album art view as iTunes on the mac? seems a bit strange that album view on mac arranges by artist yet on ipad it sorts by album title?

that's not what iOS is.

that's what the "springboard" is. that's just the desktop equivalent

iOS is the whole enchilada. the core frameworks, the APIs, the media layer, the touch UI layer with gesture support.

The closest thing to a manual/guide is the preloaded bookmark in Safari to an iOS help site, which few people discover. Apple could at least make that a homepage bookmark *shrug*

Any new apps worth checking out? I haven't given Jobs my tithe this week.

Dont't know if it's been mentioned before, but Guitar Pro is free today. Mobile version of the desktop one. Gonna learn myself to play some guitar :)

Is there something I'm missing? How do I stream my itunes content to my iPad so that the sound is coming from the iPad and not my computer?

I thought Remote does that but I cant select audio output to be the iPad.

Already got air video but that does videos only.

Really nice. Just wish the sidebar stayed on screen while I scroll. Or that there were more per row. (On my computer there's 3 per row. On the iPad, only 2 and a lot of empty space.

Also, by using a "Load as you scroll" interface, you break the site when someone leaves the page and comes back. I see way too many sites using this terrible design technique. It's cool to use, but it needs to be made so when you return, it reloads to exactly where you were. Even FaceBook uses this. It's a pain in the ass.

You should do what Google does for Image Search. It remembers where you were and reloads and scrolls you right back to your last position when you return.

Also, there's no visual notification that the page is loading, nor is there one when you get to the end of the list. So you can't tell whether you're at the end or not.
I just finished implementing a few changes that hopefully make the browsing experience better for iPad (namely to make everything fit better). Currently you have to use two-finger scrolling to scroll through the main page- I'm trying to find a work around for that.

If someone could tell me what they think, that'd be awesome:

the TED talks app now supports AirPlay. i may have to jump on apple tv soon if these announcements keep comin.

I had my doubts, and I really wasn't sure I would be happy with this thing. But after using it all day, I just have to say I fucking love this thing.

The scrolling is jerky and has no "inertia" so it is impossible to return to the top of the page. It also doesn't work all the time. And if you try to scroll while the page is loading, it doesn't work well at all. (WebKit's fault)

It would be better with a paginated layout with say 9 or so per page. I'm betting the jerky scrolling is WebKit Mobile's horrible support for embedded scrolling containers.

Oh, and date separators. Separate each group by the date they were added. I assume it's reverse-chronological order.

Personally I'd rather it be a normal scrolling page and instead of a sidebar, put all that stuff at the top of the page and have the entire width for the images. (You'd be able to get 4 across that way. Then put 8/12/16 per page instead.)

Alternatively. Have a non scrolling page for horizontal mode with the top bar at the top. Four images in the middle and a "jump to page number" list at the bottom. Since it's a site meant for the iDevices, namely the iPad, make it work best on the iPad.

Good suggestions, thanks. I think the easiest thing for me to do would be just to make my own theme at this point. I've never web optimized for iPad before and I had no idea that mobile safari wasn't capable of proper div positioning/overflow. To make up for that, I ended up doing the two-finger scroll method.

I found a script here as a solution for that but I have no idea how to implement it:

Edit: sorry to everyone else about the nerd speak. There's no other thread for iPad web dev so hopefully I'm not derailing too much

Wait for the refresh this fall.
oh definitely. i just find it scary that a product i had zero interest in has suddenly made it into my wish list. apple is baiting me like it's little bitch.

doesn't help that i don't have cable.

It's really not, though :p It doesn't seem much different at all compared to my first ipad. At least not yet.

Whut? If you want an apple tv now, and you have no cable, makes no sense to wait until the fall for a 99 dollar device.

Can/does the ship date ever change on your order or is the one they give you after placing final? Said 3 to 4 weeks before checking out and the date I am supposed to get it is may 4th, I ordered on April 2. I am hoping they ship it sooner.

honestly i don't really need it right now and i'm moving in a couple months. might as well wait for the refresh!

It can change. I ordered one on March 12, scheduled to ship out it the middle of April, but I already received it (even though I already found on locally before).

Anyone else having issues with iTunes freezing on Windows when you plug in the iPad? It happens to both I own and it's getting pretty annoying. The only workaround I've found is uninstalling the driver for it and switching USB ports to reinstall.

OK, all of those backgrounds on http://ipadbackdrops.com/ are amazing. thanks for cataloging them as you have.

That brings me to my secret ADD addiction on my iPad. I save EVERY image i think would make a cool wallpaper and then i can never decide on which one. Does Apple offer access to the necessary APIs to rotate wallpaper via an app? Does such an app exist already?

Yeah it's even thinner and lighter than I thought it was going to be.

Haven't played with it TOO much but Google Earth is a ton of fun just to screw around with on that big touchscreen.

Also listening to Pandora and browsing the internet with it is amazing.

It's a guess that there will be a refresh in the fall. There's no evidence or history to suggest it will happen. For all we know, they might wait another year to refresh it, or refresh it tommorrow.

Waiting 6 months for a potential refresh of a $99 device is overkill, IMO. You might as well buy it now and enjoy it. It's a sweet little device.

If he has multiple TVs, it makes sense; if it's just 1 TV, there's nothing to do with it after the new one comes out, except give it to someone else. If it has the A5 chip in it, it'll be more future-proof, since it will have the processing power to do 1080p and RAM to do anything that possible TV apps might need.

And like I said, we have no evidence, and no historical model to predict an A5 Apple TV is coming in the fall. It could very well be, but waiting 6 months for a refresh that may not even be in the works right now is a little much for an inexpensive item like this.

I think the writing is on the wall. The fact that they can sell 1-2 million of these devices, which will just be the $20-$30 A5 chip in a plastic box, allows them to decrease their margins on manufacturing A5s for all the iPads and iPods that will be bought during the holidays, which have slimmer margins because of displays, touchscreens, cameras and other extra components (the highest sales for those devices still occur in the holiday season).

Haha, that was my dilemma too- I'm so indecisive with wallpapers (which is why I made the site to begin with). I add about 5 new ones every day and I'm trying to keep the quality consistent.

For jailbroken iPhone, there was an app called Bosspaper that allowed wallpaper switching (http://thebigboss.org/tag/bosspaper)- no clue for iPad though.

it's wishful thinking but imagine what would happen if we could stream apps directly to it. maybe i'll find a used one for the time being, true that $99 isn't all that much considering how much money i spent on my ipad 2 accessories alone.

I doubt that they will update the Apple TV with A5 this year, since the profit margins on the A4 will go up vs A5 which will eat in to supply for their other products. Resolution, itunes does not carry any 1080p content, netflix does not stream it's content at 1080p, from apple's perspective 1080p out is not really needed. Audio processing is relegated to down sampling or pass through to a receiver. The only thing i can think of that apple would want a more power full processor in the apple tv would be for native apps on the Apple TV which would be games.

That's a circular argument. iTunes doesn't do 1080p because nothing but the iPad2 can currently handle it. Netflix does 1080p on the PS3, but not the AppleTV, because AppleTV can't handle it. The A4 will be cheaper, but I think helping increase margins on the other iDevices for the holidays will make more sense than increasing margins on the AppleTV.

Exactly. What's another hundred for an iPad/iTunes wireless TV adapter? ;)

Yeah, it bugs me too. There wouldn't be a problem if iOS WebKit could do position: fixed and overflow: scroll. If you need testers, were here to help. I love all the backgrounds there. Well, most of them. It makes me wish I could have randomly changing backgrounds like OS X.

I've never designed a Tumblr theme before, but I'd help however I could.

Really? Switching even between apps, the transitioning seems smoother, more apps can be launched and switched without reloading, the browser seems smoother, more tabs can be opened in icab without that stupid flashing light warning of low ram showing. Glad I ended up upgrading.

Has anyone used the GarageBand app?

My guitar teacher said that I really need to start recording myself. Not sure whether to take that as a complement or an insult.

I know next to nothing about the terminology of the recording process, or what I need to do in order to set something up.

I looked into GarageBand and it appears that I need some type of adapter to plug my electric guitar into my iPad ?

Thanks man. I'm looking into a new theme and I'm currently testing & customizing it. Hopefully it'll be ready in a few days or so.

If you have any idea how to install iscroll (http://cubiq.org/iscroll-4), that'd be awesome. I don't really understand the documentation because I haven't been into scripting in a long time.
