How bad and common is the light leak issue? If I get a 16GB Black wifi or White wifi, which is more likely to have the issue? How are retailers like Best Buy handling exchanges?

apple is awesome with exchanges, even if you buy from best buy. go balls deep, it'll all be OK in the end

Does anyone use any food journal type apps? I'm looking for something I can use primarily on my iPad.
I saw something written about Foodish on my RSS feed the other day. Looked good, never used it. Dunno if there's an iPad version.

Connected the ipad to the computer, and there was an ipad update. And it suggested I transfer purchased items over to Itunes library. Which I have done, as I didn't have that many apps, books etc. My question is: do I have to do this everytime? I don't want to be transferring gigs of data. Would I lose stuff after the update?

Is it worth the upgrade from an Ipad 1? Even from a jailbreaking perspective?
Not for me. Perfectly happy with my OG. Aside from when the iPad 2 was released, and hype was everywhere, I didn't question my decision to not upgrade.

for those looking for a good folio case for their ipad 2, i can't recommend this highly enough - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TJC4PW/?tag=neogaf0e-20

it's cheap, has great construction, built-in magnets that activate the screen when the case is opened, and serves as a very versatile stand. ordered it on Friday and received it today. very impressed.

I'm deciding between this case and the Toblino 2 case on amazon. I think the Toblino may be worth the extra $10 but I haven't decided yet.

Yep. I have an iPad 1 and it's just fine. I'll be upgrading to the iPad 3 next Spring for sure though.

I have a few questions regarding the iPad 2.

My aunt wants a computer so she could chat with her daughter and her kids. She does not yet even have a digital camera. So, I was wondering if an iPad 2 would be useful without a PC to support it.

Can I backup data from it to an external source? HDD/NAT/Time Capsule/etc?
Can I connect a camera to it and download the photos?
Is iPhone the only device that can share internet to the WiFi iPads or could she use another mobile phone with it?
Can I connect a basic USB keyboard to the device?

Because I don't want to do any tech work on the phone to another city AND to another country, I thought an iPad would be an ideal device for my aunt (and for my mom for the same reason). Should I get them cheap laptops or just focus on tablets, because they can't mess those up. My mom install everything in her computers if it asks her to. I am tired of fixing her computer every time I fly to meet her on holidays. Anything I remove that is harmful or things that slow the PC down, her husband installs right back in there using some stupid "automated PC fixing tools".

All they need is email, chat and surf the net a bit. Videochat is a must.

Can I backup data from it to an external source? HDD/NAT/Time Capsule/etc? NOPE - backups are itunes only

Can I connect a camera to it and download the photos? YES - but you need a 30 dollar adapter that Apple sells

Is iPhone the only device that can share internet to the WiFi iPads or could she use another mobile phone with it? NO - Any phone that creates a wifi hotspot can share it with the iPad.

Can I connect a basic USB keyboard to the device? YES (or bluetooth for no wires)

You can backup your device via iTunes.

Can I connect a camera to it and download the photos?
Can I connect a basic USB keyboard to the device?
With the Camera connection kit, you can plug some USB devices and SD Cards

Is iPhone the only device that can share internet to the WiFi iPads or could she use another mobile phone with it?
As long as the other phone can broadcast a wifi signal, your iPad should see it.

Do you know what kind of cameras are supported for the camera connection kit? is there a list of compatibility somewhere?

Pretty much anything that uses SD cards will work if you use the card reader*, while for the cameras most work a standard way when hooked up through USB, like if you hook them up to a computer you can open up whatever photo app and import the photos. If the particular camera works like that, it should work on the iPad.

I'd just use the card reader since with USB the cabling can get annoying, and it wastes the battery on the camera since it has to be on just to transfer pics that way.

*I think there's also knockoff ones for compact flash and maybe memory stick if you still have one of those.

How do most people keep organized. I am terrible and forget stuff constantly. I dont keep a work diary or anything so I need to get in the habit of organizing things. I see a few recommendations for Pocket Informant hd on another forum. I need to track todo and calendar stuff.

Started making a simple leather pouch. Had 3 or 4 leather hides lying around and decided to cut a rectangle of a creamy white one for my white ipad 2. Now to work out how to sew it together. Might get some brown leather string/cord. Not sure if I should cut the top off even with ipad, leave a flap to velcro down or something.

So I bought a Xoom which I love (the core UI that is, the actual design elements are hit and miss.) the lack of quality apps is really killing me though. So been thinking about exchanging it for an iPad. I wish I could have a tablet OS with Honeycomb's core user experience (I really feel its better geared toward the whole "bridge between laptop and desktop" better than iOS's core user experience. Rows and rows and rows of icons and pop up notification is really...horrible.) with Apple's polish and attention to detail. Ugh

So here's the question

iPad1 or iPad2?

They are basically the same device, apart of the camera (which is a bit rubbish to be honest), and the better processes, which no one is fully taking advantage of yet.

There is still no apps that make an iPad 2 worthwhile if you can get an iPad 1 for a good price. Sure, there are a few apps that look a bit nice, but none you will say "I am so happy I got an iPad 2 for this."

If you have an option to buy an iPad 1 for a good price, then go for it. However, all your iPad 1 options are close, in price, to an iPad 2, then you may as well got for the iPad 2

Wait for iOS 5?

Every time I grab my iPad 2 I'm still amazed how thin it is, that's a big factor in which one I'd choose. The original ipad feels a little chunky for me. Also the white swayed my decision.

Apologies for another one of these questions, but how long is the wait for delivery from Apple.com these days? I have a friend going back to the states and was thinking of getting one shipped to him to bring back to Vietnam where we both currently work...

Trying to figure this out has been driving me crazy.

How exactly do you put videos on the ipad?

I've already converted the files to mp4 using handbreaks ipad setting. Then I place the video files in the ipad folder that set to sync pictures. I check the box that says sync videos also. I sync, the photos sync but when I click the videos icon on my ipad it comes up empty and tells me there are no videos and I can download them from the itunes store.

By the way I'm here with my ipad and my droidX side by side, I typed this entire message on my cellphone. The ipad seriously needs sywpe or speech to text. While I admit the ipad is better for consumption, my phone is a vastly superior input device.

So I recently purchased an Apple TV, Airplay for videos is pretty awesome. On an unrelated note, my red smart cover that I recieved a couple of weeks ago seems to be coming apart at the bottom edge. Not exactly what I was hoping for out of an $80 cover, thankfully my bamboo case from groove should be shipping in a week or so.

You can get the Dragon Dictation app (free) for speech-to-text. Sometimes you need to sync twice to get videos to show up (at least that's a problem I run into on the iPhone.

Check out AVPlayerHD, I had been using the iPhone version on my iPad I finally purchased it. Easy to use with drag n drop through iTunes or Wifi upload and it supports tons of video/audio formats.

Would you guys recommend at this point waiting for next years refresh with hopefully a retina display or just getting an iPad 2? I was checking them out in best buy and it was pretty cool. Also how much does the data plan cost?

If you can afford it, go with the ipad2. Why deny yourself something on the chance something better will be coming a year down the line? Also, I believe the data plan is $20, but unless you live in the wilderness, you're better off just going wi-fi.

I say buy the 3g iPad and then decide if you want to pay for the data plan later. I absolutely love having 3g for train or car rides.

AT&T iPad Data Plans
250MB data $14.99/mo.
2GB data $25.00/mo.
I'd wait for the next refresh as I have the original one, but if I were you, I will get it now considering how much I love the iPad.

This is what I did:
Bought iPad 1 on launch day with $200 in gift certificates plus about $350 cash (tax adds the extra $50 or so).
Enjoyed iPad for a year.
Bought iPad 2.
Sold iPad 1 plus case on Craigslist for $350, about 3-4 days after iPad 2 launch.
I knew some people that got a higher value for their iPad because they sold it in January, anticipating a refresh.
