So I just got an Ipad2 16gb wifi a couple of days ago and I was wondering if its possible to jailbreak on 4.3.5, if it isnt then im going to update to ios5

a buddy of mine just got a new Macbook Air and is offering to sell me his iPad1 with the apple case and wireless keyboard for $300? Seems high, am I right in thinking its def not worth it? What if I could talk him down to $200?

My household has both an iPad 1 and 2. After I updated my dads iPad 1 I see a big difference in performance. I would say that you should look for a good deal for the iPad 2, the ram is a limiting factor on iPad 1 and it will get worse as time goes on. You already see some games being iPad 2-only.

Also the best feature of ios 5 isn't available on iPad 1, gestures.

If you're planning on owning the iPad for the long haul get the iPad 2.

I'd wait for an Ipad 2 deal. The hardware is a lot better, so it would be a better long term purchase.

Apple slashed 100 bucks off Ipad 1 stock when Ipad 2 came out. Hopefully they do the same thing when Ipad 3 is released. March 2012 isn't that far away.

Hey guys, I have a quick iTunes question:

I have a 64gb iPad 2, a 32g iPhone, and an 8g iPod nano...

Is there any way to have different sync lists for my music? I'd like to have almost all of it on my iPad, most of it on my iPhone, and half of it on my iPod.

Yes, that's a basic itunes function. Just select which music you want to sync with each device in the music tab of the device when plugged in to itunes.

At this point, don't get the iPad 1 at any price. Now that iOS 5 is out, it's gimped compared to the iPad 2. Can't do the new gestures which really make a difference in navigating from app to app.

My Jot Pro stylus came in from Amazon last night, and I had some time to use it today writing notes. Very nice. Easily the best stylus on the market. A coworker saw mine and immediately ordered one as well.

Holy crap, I just subscribed to GQ magazine for a year. And I didn't know that each issue is around 550mb. I only have a 16gb iPad.

Is there any way I can save these issues somewhere else? I don't mind downloading each one per month and having it on the iPad. But sooner of later I'm gonna have to move these somewhere and I want to keep the ones I've purchased

Edit/ or how about this, I've created an account with them. Can I remove ones I've read, and then if I want it again be able to download on the iPad?

Im not on ios 5 yet, but my iPad does gestures just fine in iOS. I don't see how it's gimped.

You can just redownload them whenever you want.

Man I'm using my iPad 2 way more than before. The split keyboard that you can move up along with the brilliant multitasking gestures has really made this thing so convenient to use. For the first time I'm using my iPad 2 instead of my Mac and I don't miss it one bit, never thought that would happen.

PS this is the first GAF post I've done on the iPad that didn't make me want to kill myself because of how clumsy the typing experience was.

What's the new keyboard? Is that an iOS5 feature or are you talking about a perhiperal?

Any of you bought speakers for your iPad? My wife seems to think she wants some speakers now :|

Any recommendations? Something where you dock your iPad.

Two of my coworkers have that case. They seem to like it, but I hate it. It's really thick and heavy.

That cover will fuck you over. It doesn't protect the glass very well like other cases - I had a friend have his glass shatter while in that case and the drop wasn't very far. Simple fact is it trades protection for style. Get an incase book-style cover instead.

Noted. I did order the case and I'll report back here after a week or so of using it.

I think my only concern is how thick the case will be. I don't plan on dropping it (of course). Even if I do, I honestly don't expect it to survive, regardless of what case it's in.

EDIT: wow, I need to review my posts before submitting. :lol

Well, this is a stupid-ass bug that I can't believe they overlooked in the FaceBook iPad app...

For those who can't tell, when the keyboard is docked, there is a Send button for submitting comments. But for some reason when you undock the keyboard, the button disappears for no logical reason. When you press Return in the undocked version, the bottom portion of the sidebar disappears in a bug and you get a new line. But you can't submit your comment until you dock the keyboard.

I hope they noticed it and submitted a fix. Because it's really silly.

Wasn't the Facebook iPad app done for like months before it came out? They probably didn't test against iOS 5. Looks annoying though.

At least it's work-around-able. But it's really silly and hopefully someone else close to the team noticed the problem. I mean, how can you not since it basically means you can't comment if you use the split keyboard. Someone's going to notice it.

Since iOS 5 is supposed to be PC-free, is it possible to put your own music into the music app without purchasing it on the iTunes store?

they're not there yet.

you can put put your current music in itunes obviously and sync it from there.

when itunes match comes out, you can skip the itunes sync session and just download all those files directly onto the device. but that might take a while since you have to tap them one by one from what we've seen.

honestly, i don't think either solution is what you're looking for but I would recommend a one time sync (or a drag and drop from the itunes window to ipad in source list) to get the bulk of your music on there.

Thanks. I was thinking of getting an iPad for some older folks without a computer. So we're not entirely PC free, just yet.

You can download whole playlists or albums with just one tap.

Sites will be fine, and you'll likely find it to be way better than any Android phone.

As an Android and iPad owner, I do not agree with this. The stock android browser usually does a better job, at least with the sites I visit. I do love the new reader feature when it is available.

I've been thinking of getting an iPad 2 for a few weeks now, mostly for web browsing, netflix and movies, plus the wife is a book enthusiast so she's into the idea as well.

Are the wi-fi issues I've been reading about a common problem or they greatly exaggerated? People claiming they don't get a good wi-fi signal for more than a few minutes, then having to constantly reset settings to get it to work again.

I'd get a 32gb wi-fi model and tether it to my iPhone while on the road. Thanks in advanced.

Does anyone know if Adonit is the only place that sells the Jot Pro? I'm thinking of getting one, but the total with shipping costs to Europe is mighty high. Any European shop that sells it?

Couple random iPad thoughts...

Does anyone here use Editions by AOL? It's a daily magazine that learns your preferences, a la Netflix. When you click on an article, it will have article topic keywords which you either thumb up or thumb down, depending if you want to read more/less like it. After a few weeks of learning your preferences, the magazine delivers only content that you care about, instead of articles you're not interested in. To test it, I used Editions for about a month and then had my gf download a fresh version of the app on her iPad. We compared magazines for that day and we only shared an article or two. Everything else in my daily magazine was catered to my particular interests, like social media, Twitter, games, etc. while hers was more generalized. The app takes some work, as you have to actively mark which topics you are interested in, but within a few days, you should start to notice the articles it delivers are more you as it learns your preferences. The app is also free.

Has anyone else's smart cover for iPad 2 worn out? I carry my iPad everywhere, and the smart cover has loosened off its hinges a bit. If I have Tiny Tower running, it will shift over enough to consider itself open, and then shut. So when I open it after a bit, I'll be greeted by a bunch of popup messages that I went away from my tower, then went back, then away, x9. Because of this, I'm using my smart cover far less than I used to. Typically running a naked iPad now with occasional Smart Cover use. Don't want to spend the money on another one if it will wear out so quickly, though I am a heavy daily iPad user.

Lastly, are any of you rocking the Logitech keyboard case for iPad by Zagg? It's a carrying case that doubles as a bluetooth keyboard, basically making your iPad a mini netbook. The iPad can sit in either portrait or landscape mode. The case came highly recommended by a friend, and I bought one and love it so far. It's great for typing long-term, such as this post or a real document. The keyboard has cursor arrow keys, buttons for cut, copy, paste, home screen, and music controls (pause, skip, volume up/down). Very handy stuff if you're considering making your iPad a workstation. I'm going to try hard to make my iPad my work computer. The only thing it can't do at the moment that my netbook can is play flash facebook games. Here's a pic of the keyboard, which you can get at Amazon or Best Buy for $100:

No wifi issues either. Ever.

RE: Facebook. Both the iPad app and the new iPhone app are utter pieces of shit. Buggy and slow as hell.

planned obsolescence, Apple style. see: the curious omission of MMS for the OG iPhone, which was later enabled in the OS by jailbreakers.

Update on the matter :):

Requires some technical knowledge I suppose, but it works without jailbreaking.

I switched from a worn smart cover to the logitech keyboard case like two months ago, and lately have been using my ipad as a laptop almost daily since. Very nice keyboard. I'm able to type at my usual speed with no problems. The only minor downside is the silver finish is starting to wear off, leaving marks behind. It's still an effective case. Don't have to worry about dropping it and damaging it the glass like I had to with the smart cover.

I'm mainly using Documents to Go for writing documents, and what I love about it is almost all of the screen is the writing area. There's minimal clutter, and while I need to occasionally touch the screen for various tasks, the only one I've had any difficulty with is selecting more than one paragraph. The files are native .doc files and has a wireless transfer program, making it easy to switch to my desktop at home.

I don't feel safe with it docked in portrait mode though. I use it only in landscape.

Hmm... Good to know the iPad is a decent substitute for a work computer if my main requirements are things like Skype, FTP, and Office. I was planning on using either Google docs or the Apple apps like Pages and Keynote and hadn't considered Documents To Go. You prefer that over the alternatives I mentioned?

I personally don't like Google docs and I tend to be offline when using the ipad so it's not a great solution. I didn't go with Pages before because syncing docs meant going through itunes or e-mailing. Now with wireless syncing in ios5, Pages would probably be fine. I suggest looking at video reviews of both on youtube and see which suits your needs better.

I don't like how they moved the close tab X to the left with iOS5. I was used to it being on the right in iOS4, iPad 2 Safari.

Is there a post with cover/accesory suggestions? Just got an ipad 2 for my birthday would love to actually get stuff to protect it

I really hope they upgrade the resolution for the iPad 3. I've been messing around with the iPad 2 whenever I'm in an Apple store or store that carries it, and it's the one thing that bothers me about the device. It looks good, but compared to the iPhone 4/4S, it's just not quite as sharp.

Pffttttttt pfffttttttttt ftttttttttttttt, man up man. The ipad 2 is good as it is. You would have to wait five more months for ipad 3

But it's less than half a year. I'd never buy an apple product that is over 6 months old. Not worth it, man.

If they increased the resolution, do you think they'd make it a multiple of the current ipad resolution, or try and bring it in line with the iphone? (So 960×640 times 4, making it 1920 x 1280)

I recently got an iPad 2 after owning an iPhone 4 for over a year, and the screen is a lot better than I was expecting.
