I just mean each with a unique voice. Not a different personality.
It'd be fun, though, to have one voice that's a disgruntled chain-smoking German-American female secretary, one that's an eager-to-please young man fresh out of college with a slight Midwestern accent, et cetera.

someday~

Having an iPad 1, i want this in iPad 3:
- Higher resolution screen.
- No Home-button.
- HD FaceTime camera
- Thinner
- Lighter
- Siri
- Better battery
- Usual better processor, RAM etc.

I think you just said the equivalent of "it smells like fresh parchment", and boy is it awkward in here now

My girlfriend loves my iPad 2, basically when she comes over I can't use it... I got her one for Christmas but I hate the idea that it'll be old technology just a few months later.

She's not a techie and I don't think increased internal specs are gonna be of any use to her, but a retina display would really be nice.

I think you'll get all of those except the home button and the HD FaceTime camera. Home button is here to stay for the foreseeable future, and the 4S didn't upgrade the FaceTime camera. Doubt we'll see a bump there until pipes get fatter in more houses.

I'm kinda 50/50 on the FaceTime HD cam. They skipped it this year, but could implement it next year, I don't think they can ignore it again in the iPad 3.

As for the Home-button, I haven't used it since doing multi-gestures.
And no button would make it even more beautiful.
Though, I do not think it will lose its Home-button and I don't mind either way. =)

I think I'm on the iPad 3 hype train. Love my iPad 2, but retina would be great, also Siri would be amazing on an ipad for me.

Are there good odds of Siri coming to iPad?

Hopefully when the 3 rolls around I can sell my 2 for decent price. Maybe I can sell it to a family member. My mom is still rocking an iPad 1, which she loves.

Last I checked Voice Over voices clock in around 500MB. I can't really think of an Apple way of letting the User select what VoiceOver voice they want.
I'm sure they're compressed on the 4S. There are like 4 voices included now, I find it unlikely they've added 2GB to the firmware size.

I held off on the iPad2 back in March because it didn't have a retina display, and just barely felt like an upgrade over the first iPad. If the iPad3 has retina, Siri, and a few other new bells & whistles I can't even think of, I'll be buying my first Apple product.

The wife and 3yr old daughter absolutely love our iPad 2. LOVE IT. I mean, I like it too, but I knew what to expect. My wife didn't, and thought we should get a PC instead.

My daughter loves the interactive children books, and the Talking Tom app. My wife just loves the instant start-up, eBay app, FB app, and how you can have Pandora playing music while you do other apps. She even used the epicurious app last night for our dinner sidedish.

QUESTION: Is there an easy way to get our photos on our iPad from our camera?

Drop them into the Photostream folder on your PC/Mac.

Yeah man, I had this very same issue. If I understand it correctly it's due to an issue with the install. Apple's advice is to uininstall iTunes from the PC and delete everything to do with it and then reinstall (you might want to back up your backups though).

However, that didn't work for me. In the end I had to plug it into my other netbook with a fresh itunes install and update it that way. The upshot of which was that it wiped the iPad clean. If you have a backup on your main machine you can get all your apps and saves back though.

Of course, this may be terrible advice and somebody else may have an easy fix. But after losing a day to researching it I don't think there's much you can do, especially if your PC is no longer recognising the device now.
Thank you for your response, unfortunately I got it after I went to the Apple store and had them fix it. Now all my game saves are gone though including stuff I bought via IAPs and just progress in general :(

Holy crap, hold down the new tab button.

I don't want Retina on iPad 3 yet, not until there's a mobile GPU good enough to run games like Modern Combat 3 at Retina resolution as smooth as they run in their current resolution.

Holy Shit is mint spectacular now... I've been waiting for them to ratchet the functionality up to what was on the website and for my purposes it's pretty much got everything I need from the website without all of the "save $$$ this way or that way". And the UI is very, very nice. They could have made some of the functions a bit easier to discover. (try to find the standard transaction listing)

It's immediately in my top 10 iPad apps now. It's that good.

Mint looks awesome

Exactly.

Screw games, how about making text look nicer first? I'm not saying it looks like crap on the XGA display, but it kinda does. So, I'll buy that retina iPad and you can still keep your iPad 2, how about that?

I was thinking about getting myself an ipad 2 as a present for Xmas is that a good idea or should I wait for the iPad 3, when is it supposed to be launching?

+1 on Mint. Utterly transformative app for looking at how you manage your finances.

About the only negative thing I can say is that categorizing transactions can be difficult with the generic stuff - a lot of transactions here are "DEBIT LONG ASS NUMBER ... STORENAME" which shows up as "DEBIT TRANSACTION" in Mint and there's no way to see the storename part without logging on to the website as the ipad app just cuts it off. But once you set stuff up it's fabulous.

Buying an iPad 2 on Christmas would be a mistake, imo. The iPad 3 is supposed to come out in Q1 2012.

It's a 1024 x 768 resolution on a screen less than 10 inches big, text already looks fine.

Why wouldn't you assume that what they'll be using in 2012 will be much better than what they put out at the beginning of 2011? They'll have had a full year to get things done. Technology moves fast these days, bro.

The fillrate of the GPU in the iPad 2 was a huge leap from the iPad 1. Over four times as fast. That was big in the talk before it came out about the possibility of it having a retina display. Whatever comes out next year will be able to handle filling the resolution without tearing or lag as well as have the additional power to push games at that resolution.

My favorite mini game on my iPad is counting pixels. What is yours?

Seriously, "fine" is not good enough on a tablet. Text doesn't look like total shit, that's true, but it's definitely not sharp enough and not enjoyable to read over a long time.

As you can see here, everything on the 3GS "looks fine".

Hey I hope they do have the technology to make it better, stronger, faster. I'll be first in line.

"Fine" is not great. My definition of great is iPhone 4. It's very noticeable.

Text on iPad isn't so bad that I'd sacrifice graphics performance just to have it sharper.

No doubt someone will come in with some massive zoomed icons shortly.

Yeah, because you clearly need a magnifying glass to tell the difference between a 3GS and 4 display when they're next to each other.

You're missing my point, I'm not dismissing the difference I just don't think the problem is anywhere near as bad as you're making it out to be, and imo it isn't worth taking a hit in graphics performance if they don't have a capable enough GPU.

they wouldn’t do it if they couldn’t take the hit in GPU performance. at least, not for the majority of apps.

iPhone 4 should be your guiding light, here. pushed a ton more pixels than 3GS but ran faster at most tasks. some games ran the same and a few ran slightly slower, but that wash’t enough of an issue to stay at the lower res.

I like good looking text, you like more fps.

Different priorities, I guess.

by the time the next iPad is out there shouldn't be much sacrifice - Apple could be moving on to a quad core solution and an even better graphics part. as it currently stands Apple is already using the best graphics part paired to the ARM chip.

Why would they do it if the GPU couldn't handle it?

You're being pretty absurd about this whole thing. When the iPhone 4 came out, was it a laggy bit of shit where Apple didn't give a shit about whether the GPU couldn't handle the pixels? Was Infinity Blade laggy on the 4?

I don't even notice the pixels on the iPad unless I'm actually looking for them.

I notice them with text all the time. with images like in the Guardian UK pictures app, I need to look out for it more.

I can see aliasing on some games easily. Bike Baron is a decent example. looks gorgeous and smooth on the iPhone but it’s jagged on the ipad.

but since I do so much web browsing on the iPad, I am more than ready for the 2X resolution screen.

I'm thinking about picking up an ipad. What size should I be leaning towards from your experience?

32 GB

I had 32 GB for the first and it was good.

I got 16GB for the second and I’m cramped for space with all these magazines and apps.

As big as you can afford.

I have a 32GB ipod touch, and filled it up. When I get an Ipad I'll be going 64GB. I mean if I'm paying an extra 100 bucks for 16gb of memory, what is another 100 for a bump of 32?

I said "if" not "when". Jeez, let a guy think out loud a bit....
