Apple iPad Media Event |OT| 'We Still Have a Lot to Cover'

Everyone remember to try not and bitch when the Mac Pro is priced out of your price range.

It's not for you, and it's not crazy overpriced.

iOS7 runs just fine on my iPad3. A bit sloppy at times but it hasn't killed the experience. If anything the beef should be with the apps themselves - Safari and most of the other core apps have a variety of bugs still to deal with.

I have a hard time believing that 4GB would be enough RAM to power the rMBP efficiently. It's fine on something like the Air of course, but the heftier display needs more horsepower and memory I think. If it is true, upgrading to 8GB would probably be in the cards for me.

Not to argue with having more RAM in general, but the Retina display itself doesn't require anything more in main memory. Its needs are strictly in providing enough graphics power (and a big enough VRAM frame buffer).

Where main memory does see more use is in supporting Retina (@2x) UI assets, but for most apps this is not a big footprint. The biggest impact would be 2D game assets (again usually UI assets).

Most people will get along just fine with 4GB. OSX is smart with memory management. But long term 8 will be the new 4, and so on.

Lol, it's always crazy overpriced even for the people it's meant for. Apple just gets away with it because it's usually companies paying for Mac Pros not the actual users themselves

Can't wait for the annual "My iPad is worth less now" day.

Can I watch on my phone? :(

Yeah, I'll be watching it on my iPad 2.

I'd want to buy one if I had the money, it looks so awesome and the form factor adds to the price.

not exactly. historically, on the day they go up for sale, they are competitively priced with Xeon workstations from other companies with similar configurations.

Buuuuut, sine they are updated so rarely and don’t drop in price, they become overpriced in less than a year as other companies bump internals and Apple stays put.

I am still rocking an iPad 1, which is very unstable and crashes a all the time - has a broken 3G antennae and spotty WiFi...

Interested in event. but I still love you iPad 1 :/

if you had two ipads, and you wanted to sell one to put towards an ipad 5, would you sell an ipad 3, or an ipad 2? I have both, and the kids are using the ipad 2. Just wondering which one will hold out longer in terms of OS upgrades etc?

The kids don't need a retina ipad, its mostly games and web browsing, so its a function of which will last better vs best resale price (I think its a 32GB ipad 2)
I don't know if either will continue to get updates but its possible the iPad 2 will since it runs on similar hardware as the current iPad mini. Sell the 3 for sure.

That's kind of a recent thing. They used to refresh it yearly until about 2010. They skipped an entire CPU cycle which is why it took so long to get where we are now.

Thaaaank you!

I have an ipad 3?? well the one that was out for like 3 months before they stealth refreshed them?!? It still is rocking hard. However I need another ipad in my life.. come on retina Mini!!

God...I remember 15 years ago when these Apple/Macintosh events were all about the Macintosh platform.

Back when Microsoft and Windows 95 and XP were the 800 lbs guerillas in the room.

All of a sudden, all this iPad popularity has turned me 180 degrees.

I can't wait to see the announcements, but I'm not going to get an Apple device anytime soon. (even though I'd get a new Mac Pro in a heartbeat if I had the $$$)

That makes sense and I agree. I'll be getting the 8GB regardless so it'll be all good. We'll know a lot more soon.

Nevermind! Got it to work! Thanks guys :)

Edit: Wait, am I doing it right? Currently on this:

Sold my cellular 32gb ipad 3, only have enough dough for a 16gb retina mini (actually £10 below) I wish I sold it a few weeks back because the prices took a big hit this past week it seems, especially the past weekend. Fucking ebay and paypal fees, the cut was enormous.
Time for iPad to catch up to the year+ old Nexus10.

Come on Apple. You can do it!
Lmao, there's no universe in which the ipad 4 does not shit all over the nexus 10 and it's barren tablet app ecosystem. Try harder.

Until the next Nexus 10 slaps it all over again.

I'm willing to bet any new iPad Mini still can't compete with the Nexus 7.
..........
ITT trolling android users who have never used apple products. The mini on ios 6 (ios 7 too) was a smoother and better experience than the nexus 7, mini 2 will leap ahead easily.

.

eh, I have a 2013 nexus 7. the old ipad mini (with the ancient A5) still feels more smooth and fluid when zooming and scrolling. And the screen ratio and overall size really makes the N7 feel more restricted and limited to reading basic columns of text. The mini is more versatile.

The N7 has the sharper, better contrast screen, of course. That should be evened out with the new mini this year. Price advantage will always go to the Nexus line since Google sells them at cost.

Woah. Man, I own an iMac and a 4th Gen iPad, with my siblings owning Mini's each. I use these often.

I just prefer the experience of the Nexus 7 over the mini anyday.

As for full sized iPad, despite N10, I enjoy Apple's ecosystem and build quality.

I own no Android device other than a Nexus. Even my phone is a iPhone 4S

Again, thats just a sample link, it's not the correct one. I doubt we will know what it is until just before the event starts.
Oh, gotcha! People should link me it ASAP :P
