you know the 15 inch rMBP has always had a dedicated GPU right? the 13 inch models are the only ones with integrated graphics

Yes - I have a 13". But there was a rumor that Apple was removing it from the 15" with Haswell, which according to leaked specs - is partially true.

Credit to the poster at Macrumors grabbing from BBS:

13" rMBP:

All 13" models have 4th generation dual-core Intel i5/i7, integrated GPU (Intel Iris 5100), PCIe flash and 802.11ac.

CPU (GHz)/RAM (GB)/Flash (GB)
2.4 i5-4258U/4/128
2.4 i5-4258U/8/256
2.4 i5-4258U/8/512
2.8 i7-4558U/8/512
2.8 i7-4558U/16/1TB (BTO)

15" rMBP:

All 15" models have 4th generation quad-core Intel i7, PCIe flash and 802.11ac.

CPU (GHz)/RAM (GB)/Flash (GB)/Graphics
2.0 i7-4750HQ/8/256/Iris Pro 5200 --(i7 4750HQ confirmed in 2nd source)
2.3 i7-4850HQ/16/512/Iris Pro 5200 + Nvidia GT750M with 2GB vRAM
2.6 i7-4960HQ/16/1TB/Iris Pro 5200 + Nvidia GT750M with 2GB vRAM (BTO)

The low-end rMBP 15" with iGPU is intended to replace the current non-retina MBP 15".

Product numbers:

15": ME293/ME294/ME8*4
13": ME8*4/ME8*5/ME8*6/ME8*7

Here's to hoping the 15" with a dGPU is still $2200, and the cheaper model is replacing the old non-retina model. $2200 for 512GB, 16GB, iris pro, AND a dedicated GPU is a great deal and I'll order today. But I'm not feeling so confident...

ah yeah I see. that pricing would be awesome but not likely =(

Seems to be strong indication, though, that the non-retinas are done, now; fully replaced by retina. If so, there's a small possibility the pricing will be significantly better that last go round.

I mean, let's see - it's been 18 months since introduced with only a small refresh/spec bump. That's a year and a half to drive down the price a few hundred bucks.

We shall see.

Apple needs to bring something new to the table. These incremental upgrades (admittedly I'm waiting for the iPad Mini w/ Retina) without dropping something new are moving them into Samsung territory. They don't have a Jobs lording over them to keep things secret, so it's pretty much a given that we won't see brand new hardware like a true Apple TV (not that there is a need for one).

-Mini upgrade to Retina
-New iPad (up some specs, add M7 processor)
-Pricing on Mac Pro (yawn)
-Other nominal announcements

Short of announcing they are getting in bed with Valve on the Steam Box, I don't see anything worth tuning in for.

I've decided that I'm hanging on to my iPad 3. iPad 5 is going to have to blow my fucking socks off if I'm going to change my mind.

I'll be there Day 1 for House Cat, though
(I refuse to call it Mavericks!)
. I assume my 2009 Mini will be upgradeable. Damn thing is maxed out, so it better be.

I had an iPad 3 since a few months after release. Dude, it's slow. If it's working for you - that's awesome. No reason to upgrade if you're happy. But trust me, the iPad 5 will blow your socks off with how much faster it is.

I'm rocking an iPad 3 as well. I sort of want to upgrade but the budgets tight with the PS4 incoming.

I'm planning on waiting to see if 7.1 runs any better. 7.0 feels super laggy on iPad 3

We pretty much already know what's dropping on this end, "mind-blowing" are definitely not the words of the day. The new casing based off the Mini will be nice though, and hopefully that plus the new screen tech means significant weight savings.

I haven't updated it to iOS7 and, unless I hear otherwise about the bugginess and performance issues, I have no plans to. I mostly use it to browse the web, read comics and Kindle books and writing. So I'm not exactly putting it through it's paces, I don't think.

I don't like iOS7 anyways.

Whoaa there. The current rMBPs all have a base level of 8GB of RAM. Will 4GB be enough? I assume this means that they are discontinuing the non-retina MacBook Pros and dropping the entry-level price of the Retinas. Still I would prefer 8GB standard... Apple really should offer a RAM BTO upgrade for that entry-level model but I'm not getting my hopes up

(assuming this leak is accurate of course)

Am I the only one who have never really grown fond of the thin bezel on the Mini?

I know there's supposed to be software which stops you from doing accidental presses or swipes at the sides but it doesn't feel like that.

so you're thinking the base rMBP w/ Iris would see a price drop, and they slot the one w/ dGPU in at the current low price? I'm there too if that's how they do it. I don't think I can settle for Iris considering I'm in After Effects a lot.

I have a hard time believing that 4GB would be enough RAM to power the rMBP efficiently. It's fine on something like the Air of course, but the heftier display needs more horsepower and memory I think. If it is true, upgrading to 8GB would probably be in the cards for me.

Yeah, I'm thinking they stick with the $1799, $2199, and $2699(?) pricing. Remove the old stuff entirely. It makes sense. That way prices go down... but technically, don't go down. It's a win for everyone.

But then again, I ALWAYS leave these things disappointed, so we shall see...

I don't have that on my iPad 3 though. My Iphone 4 is sluggish as hell. Sluggish as in: this is not what i signed up for. Fuck that.
Well that's your luck then :) Do not upgrade to iOS 7 on your iPad 3. I regret that I did. Especially when I constantly compare it to how fluid it is on my iPhone 5.

I would guess $1999, $2399 for those lower 2 models. that $1999 is going to be the sweet spot for them

My 4S works just as fast and slick 2 years on and I'm declining upgrading to a new phone because there's no need.

Oh and I've rejected iOS7 too.

I could see that, too. They want to get it under two grand.

BUT - the reason I hold hope is that I think even Apple will have difficulty telling people they must spend two thousand dollars if they want a 15" display, retina or not.

I doubt they'll have a problem with that at all =)

thats just wrong, iOS7 is so much better than 6
Not on older hardware it isn't. My 4 will cling to ios 6 for life, I also preferred how much faster ios 6 was on my mini although ios 7 runs fine on it. I didn't gain much out of ios 7 personally, i like the swiping in the web browser and auto updating apps but that's about it I guess, redesign is a mixed bag. Preferred the speed and battery life of ios 6.

I'm the same. When I went from 3G to 4S it was a big leap on every front. Way better camera, speed, display and everything. Now I don't really see that huge leap from 4S to 5S. I'll just hold onto the 4S for another year to get off the 'tock-#S' part of the cycle.

if you had two ipads, and you wanted to sell one to put towards an ipad 5, would you sell an ipad 3, or an ipad 2? I have both, and the kids are using the ipad 2. Just wondering which one will hold out longer in terms of OS upgrades etc?

The kids don't need a retina ipad, its mostly games and web browsing, so its a function of which will last better vs best resale price (I think its a 32GB ipad 2)

I'm on a 4. Made some money selling shares recently and debating updating to a 5S. Think I'll probably do it as my 4 is dragging it's feet these days. Plus I can get a decent contract for fairly cheap through work.

Any livestreams this year? Or are we just going to get liveblogs again?

edit:nvm seems like it'll be streamed at apple.com but only to safari :/ Guess I'll have to watch it on my iPad

I hope they announce a microwave. I'd buy the fuck out of an Apple branded microwave that doesn't burn the fuck out of popcorn on the popcorn setting.

I'm excited. A retina mini is really enticing. I probably should've sold my iPad 3 already.

I'm in the same boat. I love the size of the mini, and I think I'd day one a Retina Mini (or at least attempt to considering the rumors of possible supply constraints). I need to sell my iPad 3, but I wanted to wait to see what the new iPads were all about before I did.

I can beat you on that one. I went from iPhone 1 to 4s!
