Apple iPhone 6S |OT|

AppleCare is only a good deal if you replace your screen more than once or have a full replacement. Otherwise it's cheaper to just pay the screen replacement cost. AppleCare is nothing like it used to be.

Keeps getting more expensive here in Germany too. Last year it was 99€, this year it is 149€.

Prices for the phone itself also increased by 60€. Dat weak Euro. Feels bad man. iPad Pro is going to be as much as a MacBook in Germany.

I like your style. Getting my iPhone through the Apple store upgrade program so I am forced to get AppleCare+ with it so I am going to have no problem not putting a case or anything on it since I am paying for protection.
I tried a case and screen once upon a time ago and it was ok for awhile but it really took away from the phone. I noticed after I had removed both things. I've never looked back afterwards. Plus screen protectors are a pain getting on.
I usually team nocase, no screen protector, but damn these screens are so big and so bright I can literally read my colleagues' messages from across and I imagine everybody can see me browsing porn GAF. I'm considering one of those privacy screen protectors, anyone use them?
I guess it's possible, though I keep my brightness down. Plus I don't really have anything to hide while on my phone so eh.
Nothing like an unfurnished basement!
Stay out of my basement Brian!

Nope, no screen protector no case. Completely naked, the way it was meant.

I wonder if Tim Cook's iPhone is naked.

I think I will put a wrap or a very thin cover on it during the first 3 months and get used to handling the 6S+. I usually drop my phone once during that time period so it will be good to have some sort of protection on it.

I did the same with my iPhone 4 except I took the case off after almost 3 years and the very day that I took the case off, I dropped it and the back glass cracked. :(

On the one hand he should go naked because he could replace it anytime he needs to at probably no cost. Not that the cost matters much to a rich person.

On the other hand, if he wants to promote Apple's expensive cases he could use one of those for that reason.

It's a mystery!

Uses a Smart Cover on iPad, caseless on iPhone.

For those going naked, how durable is the back of the phone? Does it show scratches and wear easily or is it durable?

I'd say very durable. I don't like cases and have never used them. On gross inspection, I can't see a scratch; on close inspection, i can see 2x~3mm and 1x~6mm fine, shallow scratches.

So what are the chances that that October 16-23rd shipping date on my 6S is just a safety net and that I'll get it sooner? Did anyone deal with something similar last year?

Yes. I got mine a week and a half earlier than the estimated shipping date of a month long delay. But it still ended up being over a 2 week delay so it still wasn't the best.

Cases are less about protection for me and more about grip. Holding a thin, slippery slice of aluminum just feels so unwieldy to me-- seems it would make me much more likely to drop it. Although aesthetically it's nice being able to admire the phone naked.

I'd have bought another Book Back skin from Dodocase for the new iPhones if they still made them instead of making cardboard cutouts for Android devices at ridiculously inflated prices :(

Think of it as a baby. You wouldn't drop a baby now?

Going to LA, San Francisco and Vegas in a few weeks - which do you guys think would be the best place to get an iPhone from? In terms of availability but also taxes etc too. Thanks!

I've been barebacking iPhones for a while now and scratches on the back have never been an issue.
One thing I did notice on my iPhone 6 is that specifically the upper edge scratched like a motherfucker. The lower edge didn't though. This didn't happen with 4S or 5.

My 6 is currently being RMAed for a different issue so it might come back without these scratches but I hope this doesn't happen with 6S.

I'm still torn between 6S and 6S+ and if I'm being perfectly honest, my considering + is all about battery life and Hearthstone.

California has higher sales taxes than Nevada and will charge based on the full rate even if subsidized. There is also an added recycling fee of $3. Nevada has a lower sales tax and no recycling fee, but there are fewer Apple stores so likely lower availability. I guess you could expect to save around $20-$30 if you buy in Nevada.

That's good to know, thank you! I'd be looking to buy outright to take back to the UK (so it'd need to be T-Mobile or Verizon so the phone is unlocked) but the higher sales tax in California would definitely hit me. will try to get one in Vegas if possible then :) Looks like there are 3 Apple stores on the strip, though I guess there's also a high chance they will be sold out.

My only concern with a caseless iPhone 6 is that they're very smooth and slippery bit I still think that naked is the way to go.
I might go for a Sena Corsa case again, which is the best of both worlds for me - I can easily go naked but have some protection when I'm carrying it about.

I had thought of going for a more solid case because of the size of the thing, not sure. :/

They only made the Plus because of the demand. It shows why the ergonomics of the Plus are so terrible and the design not well thought considering the size. That was always my view on it.

Apple should have done a thicker 6 with a much bigger battery and the OIS, scrapped the 6+ and done a 4" 6 mini.

The current 6 has poor battery life and the 6+ is too unwieldy. You're effectively picking your compromise rather than your preference.

I agree with you on that. But a super sized phone is nice, as long as they can nail the ergonomics and not go with huge bezels like it is right now. For example, the Nexus 6 I think is the perfect form factor for such a big screen. Too bad the phone sucks at almost everything else, though.

Coming from a 4s I thought the 6+ would be too big, but after a year of use, I don't find it unwieldy. My wife's 6 feels too small, I would purchase a 6+ again. Will probably get a 7+ if such a thing exists.

Also, caseless iPhone is the only way. I've never even got close to dropping it while holding it. It's really not slippery at all.

Well. I was going to wait until the 7 came out to replace my nexus 6....but my nexus 6 cracked.... 😢

I guess I'm getting the 6s plus now.

Agreed there. I also think that on-screen buttons like on Android is more conducive to that end (especially with the back button where it is and not needing to double tap a hardware button for the app switcher) both in terms of ergonomics and reducing the bezels.

Yep, I bought a moto X pure and it's so nice to hold even though it has a larger screen and it's mostly the reason I went with a 6s this time over the plus variant.

I stopped putting a case on it a while back after realizing its just so much nicer to use the phone and appreciate the design without one, and that a few light scratches on the back have no impact on the resale value after 1 year

4" 6 mini? lolno

5.5" is an excellent screen size - anything below that feels like a toy to me now. I shudder to think of a 4" phone. I think future plus models (starting with the 7) will be better designed ergonomically, now that the Plus has proven it's here to stay.

I also agree that the phones could stand to be a little thicker in the name of battery.

The thought of a 7+ without the huge bezel is seriously making me reconsider my decision to get the 6s Plus. I typically prefer the s track because of performance, but I'm not convinced we'll see a resolution bump next year so I would assume that's a moot point.

This confounded indecision and "what if" is why I'm still running around with a 4s. >_<

I thought the Pope story was some kind of gag until I saw people in Philly and mostly Manhattan might miss out on deliveries because of his visit. That sucks.

Verizon is offering me a promo that'll net me $200 for my 32 GB 5c, which is honestly a lot more than I thought I could get from eBay unless I underestimate buyers for used iPhones.
