HiFutureMe app allows you to communicate with your future self! Send messages to the future! (no replies though)

I always wanted an app like this. To schedule a few messages during a tennis match, random positive reinforcements, or just plain reminders about meetings and such.

Calendar apps are annoying, and often overkill for simple alerts. So I built this app. It took about 25 minutes, and it's completely free.

If someone else out there wanted something similar... here you go :-)

This is awesome. Thank you!

Apple just released iTunes to specifically deal with this dilemma

Lol i downloaded itunes again. Man i hate this piece of shit, it's slow and it seems to freeze at the backing up phone content. As for the "syncing", it was like 3 in the morning man and i was wrestling with itunes for an hour and to be honest that shit's exhausting.

Tried the "HiFutureMe" app again, works now. Weird though it never asked me to allow push notifications, is it just using the "local push" feature that Jobs talked about for iOS4? If so, pretty neat way to implement this reminder.

I'm using the Scosche IDR-355md right now. Pretty good for the price, sound better than the Apple buds:

http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/320/productID/1953

Buddy of mine has the Klipsch S4i. Both these models work with iPhone (volume buttons, answer, skip songs etc)

http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW780LL/A

Thanks for the tip.
I'm currently choosing between these:

Klipsch Image S4i Headphones -with built-in mic
£62.50 + shipping and taxes (Sweden)

Sony MDREX38IPB.CE7 In-Ear Headphones with In-Line iPod Remote Control
£22.20 + shipping and taxes (Sweden)

Quite a big difference in price between the two choices.
Both have gotten good reviews by customers.
Are the Klipsch still worth the extra cost?

Edit: Do you have any other suggestions where I can order any of these, that delivers to Sweden cheaper than Amazon?

I just got the beta for Pleco with the OCR function (this is the Chinese dictionary/reader app I mentioned before). Just played around with it for a bit, not messing with any of the many settings. On the default settings, you need a steady hand, and it's best with text on a page/book. This works fine for me as most of my use would probably for quickly creating word lists that I can input into my flashcard program.

I played around with the settings more, and there's an option for Sauvola binarization that definitely looked like it allowed more leeway for steady hands, possibly allows for better reading of other text too (no screenshots of that though).

It's also pretty hard to hold the phone steady on a word, and press the home and sleep buttons at the same time to take a screenshot, without messing up the camera location.

Edit: For some reason, even though I resized all these in imagebucket, some are coming out full-size...

Forgive me if this has been discussed ad nauseum, but is iMovie worth the $5 if all I'm looking for is basic video editing? I've seen some negative reviews on iTunes, but it's sometimes difficult to shift through the wheat.

That's pretty sweet--do you know if there is anything like this for Japanese? I'm living in Japan right now and it would be a big help!

Not sure if one exists, but I think a developer might be able to make a killing doing something like this. The Chinese dictionary developer is a small outfit, and they have no plans to do anything Japanese (people have asked on the forums).

However, it seems like what they did was license OCR technology that regular scanners use from some company, and just made it work with the iPhone camera. Any developer could probably do the same with OCR Japanese technology.

I've bought it, but have not played it with much due to not knowing how to use it well yet. After searching some tutorials this one explains a lot of the basic editing it does.

I just bought Star Walk yesterday based on the recommendation of another GAFer. Haven't tried it out yet to attest to its accuracy, but it seems pretty cool. The screen moves around as you move the phone. I guess it reads your location with GPS and uses the gyro to check th stars/planets' positions relative to yours. So it pretty much shows what stars you're staring at from which direction/angle. Pretty nifty, can't wait to actually try it out.

Cool, I was looking at that one and StarMap. Was there a discussion on GAF? I tried searching but didn't find much. Thanks!

That's sweet, been waiting on developments regarding that feature since I read about it on Dianhua. Use Pleco religiously to a point. May I ask how you received the beta? A sign up of some sort?

I mentioned it (Star Walk) in the iPhone 4 thread. So far I like it. It will highlight different constellations/stars as you move across the skyline, you can click on them, zoom in, get information on the star or constellation. You just zoom out and shake to get the tracking to kick back in.

When I first got it it was daylight so of course I really couldn't compare stars, but it matched the position of the Sun perfectly.

It also has the ability to pick a spot and show you the sky above that spot, though I don't think it does any tracking, more like a snapshot. You can also change the date to see what the starmap for that time looked like.

There's even a search feature where you can type in what you are looking for (like a certain star for example) and it drops an arrow on the tracking screen so you can move it in that direction to find it.

I haven't tested it extensively so someone well versed in astronomy can probably find some flaws I'm sure, but so far it's very neat.

Yeah, if you sign up and spend some time browsing around Plecoforums, you can give the dev suggestions and stuff and every big release or so he'll solicit people to beta test the newest version a couple of weeks or so before release.

Is there an app for allowing you yo use your Iphone as a portable hardrive. So i can add music and files without using itunes and other shit.

Are there any free apps (or without a monthly fee) that let you watch live tv? Mostly CBS, Fox, ABC. Trying to watch some football when I'm not home lol.

Running a jailbroken Iphone 4.

Why is Apple not updating the official Remote app for iOS4?

Also, why does the USB Disk description try to convince you to buy it when the app is free?

Remote works perfectly fine for me on 4.1...

Okay so I know you can download trailers through trailers.apple.com and also use the site to launch into itunes to browse them but does anyone know why you can't access trailers directly though the program?

You can access trailers directly through iTunes. Go to Movies, then in the Quick Links section on the right is a Movie Trailers link about 7 items down. Has a page with trailers by their release date. I think it's the same page that the link on the trailers site takes you to.

It was originally developed by just one guy who is now doing other things at Apple. There was an article about this very subject on Giz around the time 4.0 released.

But it's supposed to be updated for AirPlay, according to Apple's website.

Doesn't work for me on 4.1 and iTunes 10. Just keeps asking for the PIN.
The connection gets buggy from time to time, on all iOS and iTunes versions. Restart iTunes, try to search and connect to your library again etc.

I'm on iOS 4.1 and iTunes 10 too. And no problemo.

I been using Discover to keep some files on my iPhone but it's doesn't seem to like iOS 4.0.1 very much.

Anyone here have Goodreader?
Also any recommendations for a iPhone 3G Video & Camera app?

Was eyeballing Star Walk...

I got pocket universe and it works great. It is very snappy with the overlay of the stars. Not sure how it stacks up against the others but I actually use it a lot, kind of cool to sit in the house and be able to look at the stars.

Thanks for responding. But I went ahead and chanced Star Walk, and I'm kind of astounded by how awesome it is. I can't say how it compares to Pocket Universe, but here are my impressions after fiddling with it for about 10 minutes:
- You can quickly pan around the sky with finger swipes, and use pinches to zoom in/out.
- Tilting summons up the compass sync, which uses the iPhone's built in compass or whatever to accurately "orient" itself and show a live view of the actual sky. I tried tricking it a few times, but every single time I pointed it at the moon, the view was spot on accurate.
- Shows constellations and planets by name and color coded. Tapping on a constellation will project a stylized sketch of the constellation and appropriately link the relevant stars.
- It seems like you can fiddle with filters to change how many/few items are displayed at any given moment.
- Seems to include a search-able database of features as well.

There are still a few icons and options I haven't fully explored; but I'm totally charm by the tilt for live view "augmented reality" style functionality.

Is there any pandora alternative for the eu? I know of one i can access on my pc, grooveshark, but it doesnt have an app :(

GV Mobile + just dropped to Free, Not sure if it's temporary.

Thanks for the heads up, totally forgot about this. Just downloaded.

I think the developer said it was a temporary 6 or 12 hour sale or something, only meant for people who purchased it before. So better get it quick.

Is there a version of MSN in the app store that allows you to get messages and notifications whilst doing other things on the phone and allow you to be constantly online? Sort of how it is with Blackberries.

Beejive IM supports push notifications which will tell you when you get a new IM and stuff. You can set it to keep you logged in for up to a week.
