Yikes, you really seem to have problems with the way people decide to spend their money.

I don't really care, but it's probably going to be a pretty big joke if they're that expensive. I have a Surface Pro 3 and it took a while not to feel a little weird pulling it out at work due to how expensive it is. People always had a comment along the lines of "oh, you opted for the Pro line, huh? Expensive."

People notice those things. At least with the SP3 it's independently useful, and very much so. The smart watches we've been seeing are essentially accessories to an already expensive product.

By the way, I feel the same way about Android Wear. Obviously they're cheaper, but still, $250 for an accessory is kind of silly.

Gruber has. I think he's saying $500-$1000 based on band.

He's psychotic if he actually believes that. $1000 for the midrange? Please. $500 is probably even pushing it. Will probably be $100 more than lowest option. And solid gold one will be mega bucks like everyone seems to think.

The sports bands will probably be the entry versions of the watch. But any special bands they could $700+.

people don’t notice watches the same as new iPhones, tablets or laptops, in my experience.

sure, an apple watch might get some comments since the brand carries recognition, but people may not know or care there are options beyond the $350 sport model. and if they do, who cares?

also, there are people wearing watches costing $1k and up (I’m not talking rich people, just middle class) and it’s not a point of conversation for anyone except watch nerds, really.

I guess that it's going to draw more attention because it's an Apple product. That always is a polarizing thing in itself.

I want to see one and play with one, but I don't know anybody that has any actual interest in owning one. I know a couple of Moto360 owners, but man, the actual usage scenarios are kind of weak for the cost. People definitely ask them about the watches all the time though.

Just sell me this for $450 AUD and l'd consider it:

Can't wait to see Facebook notifications on my watch while tracking my body activity in the subway....
Humm no.

Hoping for an iPad pro with stylus (probably not happening).

Just want to give a shout out to all the beta
suckers
testers for gen 1 of the Apple Watch!

Has anyone thought about what 'spring forward' could mean? Other than the season of course.

It's from the phrase "Spring forward, Fall back" referring to daylight savings practices, and in this case, likely is also a nod at them releasing a "forward"-leaping version of the timepiece.

Ordered a pebble time for me and my dad, pretty hype for it. Looking forward to seeing what kind of ridiculous price the apple watch is going to be.
For an MSRP premium of $150, you can get a nicer looking watch plus all the native iOS functionality you'd expect from an official Apple family product.

I wear my Pebble every day, but there's no question the Apple Watch MSRP is justifiable.

Looks like a plastic, low res (maybe close-ups are unflattering here), low contrast alternative, with the unfortunate large kindle-like thick plastic-looking frame. To each their own, but I find it hard to see that as competition for Apple Watch even if it is appealing for a different price category.

There's a tendency for people who like Apple products also stray away from the feel of plastic shell devices, and that's likely a key part of the glass and metal combo that Apple Watch has.

That Pebble Time has a metal front cover and the face is gorilla glass, similar to the iWatch Sport. Moreover the Pebble Time uses a standard strap connection; it's easy to swap in a reasonably priced leather or metal band. It will probably cost a lot more than $350 to get an iWatch Sport with a decent nonplastic band.

I prefer an always on ePaper display that lasts a week to an oled 'retina' display that lasts 4 hours

Really hope the Apple Watch design language comes to iOS—(apart from the circular icon layout).

Who looks at their watch for four hours a day?

'iWatch' '4 hours'

Come on. And I clarified in my post earlier, since I was not even sure of all the materials involved in Pebble Time, just that it has that thick black frame around the screen, and an even thicker plain bezel. The strap issue sounds again like this is in a different price category and doesn't really face Apple Watch directly.

Ditched my iPhone back in October but I'm still interested in the stuff Apple do. Looking forward to seeing what the watch can offer.
I hope the battery life is better than reported.

Only available by using Safari. Right?

If I remember correctly, I think last time I was able to watch it on my Wii U... So it should work on more browsers

Who covers their watch with a blank face and only takes it off when they use it? It's a watch ffs, an always on display should be standard. Notice how Apple always advertises the watch with the display on instead of the blank slab it usually is

Pretty much this. Read grubers post with raised eyebrow/s. I think mid range will be around $500 and watch edition will be $10-15k.

I'm thinking of getting three watches sometime but can't decide if I should wait till second gen. I usually do with apple products. I want to get one for me, my wife and my daughter so it's a lot to buy especially if they end up beyond $500+. The question is when do u think they will update them again? If they update them yearly I can happily wait a year but two or three years (like Apple TV) and I'll buy it now.

I can see some of the first adopters get annoyed if they come out with a revision next year especially if it gets thinner as it looks a bit bulky now.

Still I'm pretty excited about the keynote!

You won't see a blank screen when you look at it. And no, always on won't be a standard. It's your preference, it is not the type of interface consumers have demanded more so far.

It's not in the developer spec. Apple really don't like you customising the look of anything, you should experience things the way they say you should!
I'm not familiar with WatchFace, but the Apple Watch website shows plenty of different faces (including a Mickey Mouse one), so isn't it likely that there will be a lot of customization with the watch face?

It will include a selection of high quality faces, similar to the retina wallpapers they create for iOS devices. These are all included at launch and there's no word on custom faces yet.

Who covers their phone with a blank face and only takes it off when they use it?

Yeah, and how dare apple advertise iPhones with the screen on instead of the blank slab it usually is.

Seriously? Aside from the Pebble and maybe a few android wear outliers if you want a smartwatch it's going to have that "limitation." Yeah it's different but even as batteries get better I doubt that will change much. I use my phone to tell the time now and I have to press a button to do that.

Also, it's called the Apple Watch not the iWatch.

Unless I've been thoroughly misled by a friend who's been delving into this, I would assume that means Apple will release some themselves rather than have it be open season for anyone to make one like it is on Android.

Lol wut?! You know what consumers demand now? Almost every other smartwatch has offered an option for the an always-on display. Only one of the sony ones didn't iirc (it also had an oled display like the iWatch tech and was barely readable outside).
