Hopefully Office apps will finally not run like shit on Mac?

I shattered the camera lens on my XS last week, any word on when my upgrade is coming or is that a later event?

I'm a subscriber to O365. It's pretty good on the Mac. The only big issue is Excel and that's with big sheets and macros. Excel just never worked well on Macs.

They run great for you all? Resizing windows is choppy as hell, and as entremet pointed out, Excel can get really laggy. Outlook often bogs down and requires restarting for me, too. It's just not nearly as snappy as the Windows versions I also use (both Office 365, so latest versions).

This is coming from an i9 16" MacBook Pro with 32GB of RAM, too... Maybe I'm just picky, but the performance is clearly worse than other native apps for me.

Looks like they got this shit figured out pretty well.

Their mobile chips are phenomenal. We finally have a third player, let's see how things are gonna play out. I'm looking forward to see real world tests and benchmarks.

They said they planned to have consumer models using the Apple chipsets this year, right? Excited to see some performance comparisons.

I’m sure the transition will still be somewhat painful, but PowerPC this is not. Looks like the right move for them long term.

It makes total sense for them to ditch Intel. As long as they provide a smooth transition for professionals most people will be ok, everything is pretty much all web-based nowadays. I have Office and maybe other 5 apps installed today, Spotify, Telegram, WhatsApp and can't really remember any other app I use frequently.

I was planning to upgrade in 2 years maybe, but since I don't use any third party apps I think I'll be good.

I am still fine with my early 2015 MBP and no desktop since currently I only browse the Web and do light media editing.
I am definitely behind the curve in regards to technology though, perhaps I should get an Apple Watch first.

I think it's great they finally allow freedom to set default browser and email defaults but it's a shame they don't allow people to have real chrome or real firefox, it's all running on webkit and thus the extension ecosystem of each browser gets shafted.

Transitioning to ARM obviously makes the most sense for laptops, Mac Mini, iMac... but I’m really interested in seeing how much power they can get out of an ARM chip with desktop cooling. Are they going more cores with lower clockspeeds? Are there any high powered ARM servers that we can look at for reference?

Love Big Sur look except the icons look shit. Drop shadows and bevels everywhere, skeuomorph throwback. I do not understand why not stick with the iOS icons.

Also hilarious how the word ARM seemed like as much a dirty word as GAF is at some forums.

I am very curious about the price impact. Intel must be the most expensive part in the current macs.

So that would mean either cheaper macs or smartphone like margins on every sale.

Tim plz.

I think we found the answer lol.

Also, new iOS is 100% everything that would pull me away from android except I STILL need software to put media on it. Yes, I still put music and videos (largely all my training videos so I don't have to use the TV) and would prefer to not use iTunes anymore, like at all, but they have everything else I want. Maybe next year?

Architecture-wise, the move to Intel was a move to x86/x64, but Apple always just mentioned it by the chip vendor Intel even though they could have as well used AMD during that now-ending period. So it is consistent that they mention the new chips by vendor (which is themselves lol) rather than the architecture.

That weirdly makes sense. Hmm.
