Damn, 10.8.2 is a MASSIVE point update:
You don't think stupid people buy Apple products? They do, I talk to them every day.
Please note, I'm not saying all, or even a majority of Apple users are dumb.
Really?
Looks like a bunch of useless facebook shit and some bug fixes

As I tried to convey in my post, my point was exactly your point: no company is free of dumb consumers. It was specifically a response to this:"You don't think stupid people buy [insert any company name on the planet] products? They do, I talk to them every day."
I'm sorry, was there a point to that? Or could you maybe point me to some product that exists in this world, that exclusively intelligent people have bought? I'm sure there's millions of idiots with Apple products. Just like there's millions of idiots who have bought any product. Crazy concept.
In which he assumes that people who are buying a "Mac with Thunderbolt ports" would know the difference between Thunderbolt and Lightning cables. I was simply replying that I work with people every day who don't know the difference between a USB and an HDMI cable. That doesn't stop them from buying iPhones, Macbook (even Pros), Android phones, Windows laptops, etc.But is there an overlap between those people and people who own a Mac with Thunderbolt ports? Even if there is, I'd imagine that they'd probably mistake a HDMI cable for a USB one, rather than assume that a USB one is something else. At this stage I'd expect anyone buying an iPhone to recognise a USB port, even if they don't know any others. The whole thing seems unlikely to me though. Why give the cable a name in the first place, let alone one that connects it to Thunderbolt when it doesn't use any of that technology?
What!? Fuckin finally.Syncing of iMessage content between all Apple devices is a big thing for me.
Really?

is huge. Only reason why I'm currently using glims- SSL support for Google searches from the Smart Search Field in Safari
I think they were always aiming to have these features launch concurrently with iOS 6. They were probably testing them at the same time. iPhoto and Aperture should both receive updates for Shared Photo Streams too. It's like they wanted this stuff to be ready for ML but ran out of time so they held it back. Looking forward to the Messages stuff.
Facebook friends contact information and profile pictures in Contacts
I remember when facebook deleted a load of peoples contact emails and replaced them with their own facebook emails. Happened to users who synced their contacts with facebook.I actually hope this is optional and I can turn this off in address book. I already have custom photos for all my contacts and don't want their Facebook photos to override that. Synching any other Facebook info into their contact card is cool but leave the photo alone. Maybe an odd request but I'm OCD and spent the time getting a nice photo of all my contacts and don't want shitty Facebook pics replacing them.
Probably won't be an option though. You ether sync to Facebook and get picture/info and all or just don't sync at all.
This is an extremely good read, for those in retrospect who call the iPhone design 'obvious' and lazily call it inevitable evolution. It details how the iPhone came to be, the sweat it took, the challenges involved, and how every small detail took some very deep thinking. I wonder, if they went with the original extruded metal look and not the final redesign, if all phones would still be black slabs today? Somehow doubt it.

Good point. I forgot about that. Fuck that then. I've spent a lot of time over the years filling up peoples contact info and addresses and all that. Won't be syncing with Facebook. It better be optional to sync address book with Facebook though. I hope I can still access the the other sharing features and notification centre facebook access without it touching my address book.I remember when facebook deleted a load of peoples contact emails and replaced them with their own facebook emails. Happened to users who synced their contacts with facebook.
No chance in hell I would ever give facebook control over my contacts. No chance.
Paradox, et al: Do not be alarmed. These are some of the things you are likely to see in the next 24 hours:
It's just longer, not wider?
True 4"
Stretched iPhone 4
Sorry Apple
First iPhone I haven't been excited about
What's new with it?
No LTE on Wind?
New connector? I'm heavily invested in clock radio docks. Won't be upgrading.
No NFC?
No wireless charging, no sale.
Stylus?
How much RAM?
No quad core?
If, for some reason, you become overwhelmed by drive-by trolls or "unbiased observers" feel free to quote this post. In rare cases, examining a poster's history may be necessary. Godspeed folks.
Yep before I do anything else I'm turning Facebook integration off.
Stop wasting energy on this. It'll be the iPhone 6, won't it?

Oh. They're stupid.
All I see on your list is: 1, 3, 3, 4, 4... so where next? That's right, "the new iPhone".Oh. They're stupid.
I can never make it through more than 10 minutes of these things, regardless of who it is and how enthusiastic I am for the product. I'll either keep an eye on the blogs, or wait for a couple of hours and just read the interesting bits.Disappointed there's no livestream = Not sure if I should wait until it gets uploaded to iTunes or just read the live blogs as it happens
Dude. I used to be hugely for this but even now I've given up and just go along with the flow. If it was the iPhone 6, I'd be really happy. But eh. Whatever. Yes, it's the 6th. The 3G was the 2nd. The 3GS was the third. The 3GS was also just a faster better 3G just like the 4S is a faster better 4. If the 4S is not the 5th and then why is the 3GS the third. Shouldn't the 4 be the 3? That would make this the 4. It no longer matters. It's just a name. It'll be the iPhone 6, won't it?

It's the iPhone 5. I like to compare it to PS3 firmware updates. Right now we are on OS 4.35 or something. Is it the 4th updated? No. There have been tons of updates, but smaller updates only get decimal numbers added. Similarly, Apple adds letters on their iterations to denominate smaller upgrades; 3G, 3GS, 4S. We will get the iPhone 5 today, and the next upgrade will be 5S or something. It'll be the iPhone 6, won't it?

Holy shit. I've never seen it like that. Makes sense. It's the iPhone 5. I like to compare it to PS3 firmware updates. Right now we are on OS 4.35 or something. Is it the 4th updated? They can call it iPhone 5 since it's been 5 years,...
lol was this printed or online?
cause if it's a digital invitation that's weak, you would think a tech company like apple would know how to use digital maps.
My iPhone 4 is slow as hell now. I want lots of processing power. Why exactly do people want quad-core for the iPhone? Unless you're a specs whore. I just want better batterylife and LTE.
Did you miss the list of 1-6? I don't actually care that much, but I thought that seeing as they got the iPhone 4 name right, they might at least be consistent. All I see on your list is: 1, 3, 3, 4, 4... so where next? That's right, "the new iPhone".
Ha ha. Yeah. Whatever the easiest is to market.Dude. I used to be hugely for this but even now I've given up and just go along with the flow. If it was the iPhone 6, I'd be really happy. But eh. Any chance the rumoured iPad Mini will be announced or is this a iPhone and iOS-only keynote?
Ahh Pleco... you've been with that app for soo long
I've talked about it before. It's called Pleco and Its a universal app for iPhone and iPad. It combines 10 licensed Chinese-English (and one Chinese-Chinese) dictionary, an eReader (that is great on iPad) that let's you load up Chinese documents and give you a ton of popup definitions from the various dictionaries when you poke on a Chinese word, a modified Safari browser that does the same as the eReader, andca spaced-repetition flashcard system that integrates with the dictionaries to test you on everything from writing and tones. There's a long Android thread on the site's forum, and the developer is adamant that there won't be an Android version for a long time.
Living in China at the moment and it's great--I use the iPad version at work to read Chinese documents and at home to read Chinese news articles, and on the subway and out and about I'm either drilling myself in vocabulary or looking up words that I encounter on the street or when spoken to.
The open source Chinese dictionary out there that a lot of apps are based on isn't up to snuff (and I can use it with the other paid licensed dictionaries on Pleco anyway), at least for my current needs.
Transferring to Android
If you buy the iOS version of Pleco, you can also use your purchases on Android free of charge; see this page for license transfer instructions. (note however that this is subject to change at any time - it's a new policy and we're not sure how Apple / Google will react to it)
