What did I miss?

Basically the same phone and OS with some changes to it.

This is good, it's safe, it will make a great phone line even better... but I'm not into specs, incremental changes, and such. I'm all for the experience, and iOS is boring me.

I'm on a Android phone now, the Galaxy Nexus, when I switch phones again I'm gonna try the Lumia and the Windows 8 Phone line. I'm not coming back to iOS until they make radical changes to the core experience (which they probably won't, and I understand why).

Still, awesome phone for people that have yet to own a Apple branded phone.

Only 8MP. A bit of a dissapointment. I thought Apple would match Sony with a 12 or a 13.

You don't need a 12 or 13 MP camera when your photos are just going up on Facebook (or otherwise never being printed) anyway. I'd be much happier if they just improved the quality of the 8MP camera now.

Exactly. Apple is known for giving very high estimates on the battery life. Probably in line with the S3, maybe a little better just because the screen is quite a bit smaller.

with the bigger screen of the iphone your thumb can no magically make it further, as we have been told this was the reason for the smaller screen.
